Luke gets Leia, Han gets Chewie, Aniken, here Ra, gets killed. As bunny said, the Egyptian stuff anchors the movie, it's a great choice both unique and recognizable. It's not my favorite movie but seeing it is a great trailer for the series, on Prime.

Cute top. That's a great color on you Bunny! :) Great reaction! There must've been 7 or 8 times that you called something before the movie revealed it and you were spot on. Smart Bunny! :) I like this movie. They spent a TON of money on making it, with high budget special effects and a lot of on location shooting, and it looks amazing. Plus, Kurt Russell (a.k.a. "Flat-top Guy" was a fairly big name action star and James Spader a respected dramatic actor. However, it had the unfortunate luck to come out a couple weeks after "Pulp Fiction" and didn't perform nearly as well at the theaters as they hoped. You can tell they were clearly hoping to make sequels but it didn't make enough money. However, it became a cult favorite and did extremely well in home video, which prompted Showtime to make a series continuing the story. I liked the series. It's not on the same level as Star Trek for me, but it's got some very good stuff. They basically take the whole "ancient gods were actually aliens" thing and really run with it. Sadly, Col. O'Neil's flat-top haircut didn't survive the transition to the small screen, nor did his cool beret. Ooops. sorry for the spoiler ;)

Watch the series pilot to see what happens next.

You recognize General West (the Air Force General with the mustache at the beginning) because he was the 20th century country singer thawed out by the Enterprise crew on the first season of Star Trek The Next Generation. 😁 I always enjoyed this movie, but more importantly, I LOVE the series it spawned. The only downside to the movie for me was Ra. I found it a little hard to be afraid of a Big Bad who was... uh... not exactly a specimen of intimidating masculinity? LOL Anyway, some fun trivia. Some of the large sets (like the inside of Ra's pyramid and the inside of the military facility) were filmed inside the giant white dome next to the Queen Mary in Long Beach. The dome had recently been vacated by the Spruce Goose, which moved to the Evergreen Aviation Museum in Oregon. It's now used as a terminal for Carnival Cruises.

I love your kickstart into this amazing franchise, April! If you do watch the SG-1 pilot follow-up, I highly recommend the Final Cut version for "Children of the Gods".

Is this the theatrical cut or director's cut?
