👏. Yeah, well worth the wait, Bunny. Great reaction. 🫶 🖖🏆

Warren Stevens played the Doc and he also played Rojan over a decade later in the Star Trek TOS episode "By Any Other Name".

Like you, I find the drastic change in the behavior of the tiger toward Altaira quite perplexing. What triggers this change? What, if anything, is the exact meaning the writer was trying to convey? This always has baffled me. I hope some of the other commenters are able to clear this up. Hmmm.....

Mark Chrisco

An interesting note is this was not intended to be the final cut. The studio thought it was fine as is, despite requests from the editor for an additional two weeks to fine tune certain scenes.

Loved it! The crew of a B17 go to a planet around an alien star. I was expecting Mad Men with bad 50s coffee but I noticed they used a carafe which suggested they had reached drip coffee technology. Thanks Robbie! Unlike in The Tempest which ends with Prospero going back to Milan, they blow up Altair 4 along with Morbius. Great ⌚ with bunny as always.

Carlos Stevens

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Amazing movie. This (IMHO) is the first Science Fiction movie that was about The Science, and not (just) about Random Science Related Monster (yeah yeah, I know... Monster From The Id). But, most of it was based on real science concepts.

Matthew Graves (Graviton)

Fun reaction Bunny! This is, obviously, one of the foundational classics of sci-fi visual media. It's still a great watch to this day. And yeah, the creators of Trek were not shy about the fact that this was a major influence.

Emma

The original trope of the maiden or virgin who the beasts of the forest did not harm is a very old one. It goes back at least as far as Gilgamesh. When Adams kissed Altaira, her sense of security around the tiger was broken. Of course, Morbius had just found out that his daughter had been kissing, so the tiger can also be seen as a manifestation of his id.

Emma

JMS is a big fan of this movie. You will see echoes and homages of this in future reactions.

Carlos Stevens

MoNsTeRs FrOm ThE ID!!!!! wooooooo! "Sci Fi in nature." I would submit (and challenge anyone to argue with me) that this movie is the FIRST real Sci Fi movie. One that was more about the science, and not so much about the scary monster from the id. That said, there was once a TV show that captured the essence of this movie... I wonder if Bunny has the fortitude to watch "THE OUTER LIMITS" (and yes, I'm talking about the original, not the remakes).

Carlos Stevens

Ok, since you asked... Movies that will give you the same vibe: The Outer Limits (ok, not a movie... a TV series) The Andromeda Strain (was my favorite movie until Brazil) Colossus: The Forbin Project (Colossus was Skynet before Skynet was a thing) The Day The Earth Stood Still (I love the Keanu Reeves Version) Silent Running (...space hippy saves the plants... not as cringe worthy as it sounds) Logan's Run (RENEW!!!) THX 1138 (George Lucas's first movie) Planet Of The Apes (I think you've already seen this one) Arrival (more modern but EGAD! Such a good movie)

Thanks, I'm glad! What should I do next!?

From what I have gathered, Ian is correct. The tiger and deer were also a manifestation of Morbius' subconscious.

Emma

The idea that the Krell brought the animals from Earth is a post-hoc rationalisation. What is interesting is that the animals seem to have an existence that was not reliant on Morbius's subconscious; they seem willed into existence. In the book of the film, our core trio accidentally kills one of the monkeys. Later, Dr Ostrow dissects the dead animal and discovers that its internal structure precludes it from ever having been alive in the normal biological sense. It had the appearance of a monkey, but only the outward appearance that a philologist would appreciate.

Gosh, Bunny. Hmmm. Warning Sign 1985 might be fun with a Resident Evil Vibe. / THEM. Black and White goodie. / I loved Tomorrowland /. I liked Lucy / another is Looker. 1981 /. Brainstorm 1983. any of those would be fun, should you care to venture. oh and Soapdish would make a great movie night movie. LOL. it's a comedy 1991. I'm just glad you enjoyed Forbidden Planet.

Paul Hess

Lots of great recommendations here; I particularly second Silent Running and Logan's Run! Deep into the sinews of cinematic science fiction history.

Jack

Forbidden Planet was definitely the Star Wars or The Matrix of its day -- one of those groundbreaking movies that changed everything and influenced other movies and shows, even to this very day. Effects footage, costumes, props, vehicles, models, story beats and so much more from this movie can be found in too many other places to list. The commander is played by a young Leslie Nelson, who acted in dramatic, serious roles like this one in movies and TV for decades until 1980 when Jim Abrahams, Jerry Zucker, and David Zucker tapped him to star in the landmark comedy "Airplane!" This awakened in him a long-dormant passion for comedy, and from then on, he starred exclusively in comedies -- most famously the "Naked Gun" movies.
