You seemed confused a moment, so I'd like to remind you. In the world of 86 -Eighty Six, the primary enemies are the Legion—a rogue, self-replicating army of autonomous mechas originally created by the defunct Giadian (Jee-ahh-dee-ann) Empire. To bypass an internal shutdown timer and upgrade their intelligence, the Legion captures human brains to use as central processors. Shin goes around his squadron when his people fall to ensure they are not in a state worth taking, because the copies maintain a shred of the fallen's soul. That shred is what makes him able to hear their voices. Also, Prof's arrangement does not follow the episode releases. He has completely rearranged things out of timeline order to re-direct your feels. Now... I must return to re-reading the light novels cause... uh... reasons.
