QUantum FIlament Transferance 6 (Patreon)
Content
Preface
Quantum Filaments, here afterward referred to as QUFITs instantly transfer characteristics between two individuals. First recorded in 2015 they recur annually. A previously unknown phenomenon they first appeared on October 31st in Denver, Colorado, United States at approximately 1610 hours local time. Just days ahead of the annual Leonid meteor showers, many amateur astronomers mistakenly claimed they were only part of a highly active cycle of meteor showers or the intense Aurora Borealis. For several days many governments around the world thought it better to allow that explanation to persist rather than admit this was a phenomenon that was unknown to current science and whose impact could not be predicted.
Humans are the only known life forms impacted by the QUFITs. Persons changed by an annual QUFIT fall appear to be wholly immune to any subsequent falls. The transference between individuals can be either physical or mental. The number of changes visited upon a person has ranged from one to eighteen individual "swaps".
Ryan sat down next to his friend Edgar for study hall in the assembly. There were both juniors at the high school.
“Did you see the meteor shower last night?” Ryan asked.
“No, that wasn't a meteor shower. It was a QUFIT storm!” Edgar responded.
“A QUFIT storm?”
“Yes, don't you remember from last year? Those things that swap traits between people?”
“I thought that was a joke. Something like that couldn't happen.”
“It did! Last night it did again.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, I knew what it was immediately. I went down into the basement where it's safe. There aren't any windows there. I stayed there all night.”
“You slept in the basement.”
“Yeah.”
“What about your family?”
“I told them to but they didn't. It changed them.”
“Oh my god, what happened?”
“They have the baby in my room.”
“They do?”
“Yeah, and all my stuff. “
“Really?”
“Yeah, I'm in Steffie's room now.” Steffie is Edgar's baby sister.
“I don't believe it.”
“But it's not the room that bothers me, not even the blue-painted walls. It's the furniture. She is sleeping in my crib. My changing table is in there. Mom is even putting her in my diapers.”
“What?”
“I know it's hard to believe. I woke up in the morning and I went to my room, Steffie was in there. She's was still asleep in my crib. I wasn't wearing a diaper. Somehow, I was wearing a pair of briefs. Anyway, I go to get a diaper and they have all shrunk. That's OK, I guess they will do. I take it with me to see mom. She saw me with it. She must have known what I wanted, but she wouldn't change me. Do you know what I had to do?”
“What?”
“I had to change myself. I couldn't even use my own changing table because Steffie was there. I went into Steffie's room, closed the door, and put the diaper on. It was very small, I had to use tape to secure it. It was a good thing that I did.”
“It was?”
“Yeag, because I had flooded the whole thing less than ten minutes later. I had to change myself again.”
“Really?”
“Yes.”
Then I got dressed. I had to put on Steffie's clothes. Mine had shrunk like the diapers.”
“In those?”
“Yeah. I found some things that weren't too bad, a t-shirt, jeans, you know regular clothes I could wear. But I didn't find one onesie when I looked through my stuff. Not one! Changing diapers is so much easier when you wear onesies.”
“I see.”
“That reminds me if I need to be changed, can you do it? I hate changing myself.”
“I don't know.”
“It's OK, I brought all the supplies with me: diapers, wipes, powder, lotion, you know. I don't need to be changed now. I mean I'm a little wet, but I can wait.”
“As I said.”
“I understand. If you change your mind let me know. Back to the story. So, I go down to breakfast. Steffie is in my highchair. Mom is feeding Steffie instead of me. She left me food: eggs and Canadian bacon.”
“What's wrong with that?”
“The eggs were OK, I guess, but how do I eat bacon? I don't have any teeth!” Edgar opened his mouth to show mostly bare gums. There were a couple of teeth, but not enough to chew something like bacon.
“So, what did you do?”
“I got a bottle when she wasn't looking filled it with formula and took it to what is now my room. I nursed until it was all gone. I'm so glad mom transitioned me from breastfeeding. If not, I don't know what I would do.”
“What are you going to do for lunch?”
“I brough another bottle and some cereal. I'm fine.”
“Did you tell your mother what happened?”
“Tried, but she is oblivious to the changes. She doesn't think anything is wrong.”
“What are you going to do?”
“I'll make do. I guess I can sleep in a bed. I was getting too big for the crib anyway. I took my favorite doll. I have it with me. I can sleep...with it.”
“What happened?”
“I think it's time for my change. My diaper is soaked. Are you sure you can't change me?”
“NO!”
“OK, I guess I can manage.”
Edgar left the study hall to find an empty room to change himself. He thought he could use one of the desks as a makeshift changing table.
Ryan didn't know whether to tell Edgar he was the one trait swapped or to let him discover what had happened by himself.
End.
