IMPORTANT NOTICE: This final release of Chapter One has a completely reworked sprite system, so everyone who played the Alpha or the Beta should disregard those saves and start a new game! Breadloaf has helped me a lot with this new, much needed and long overdue implementation, that will make coding the game much tidier and concise. There are still some other tweaks to add to make ORS an even better product than GGGB, and will be done within these first steps of the game.

Other than that, here's the final version of Chapter One!

The reception for the Alpha and Beta was pretty good and I think you'll enjoy this first release. Bear in mind this is the start of the story and now's the time to set up the characters, their positions in the world and so on, so please don't expect the same level of customisation as in the 20th update for GGGB just now! I do want to hear your thoughts and opinions on the starting point for the new characters and mechanics, though!

What do you think about the new presentation? Graphics, UI, displayables...?

What do you think about the new game mechanics and gameplay?

Do you like the more in depth writing and characters?

And most importantly,  how do you feel about out two new leads? Have I've done good job writing from a male perspective?

Let me know in the comments, as well as report any bug you might come across. I hope you enjoy this first chapter and are left excited for what's to come. Thanks for your support and faith in my project!

Looking forward to it! Looks great! You are a true artist!

GGGB was one of the best of all time, and Our Red String is shaping up to be better in every way. I love setting up the characters and world, and love the slow burn. It makes the ultimate payoff much better.

Got a greyscreen error already - after Ian wakes up Saturday. Ignore works fine.

Matt Gorman

I thought it was going to be you pick who you play rather than playing both.

I found a bug on Saturday with Ian right before he got dressed, never reported one before, but I thought it might help. Also, when Lena is posting her photo to Photogram, the artwork says Peoplegram, just thought you should know. Everything looks super good though!

good starting point to ORS, played it a few times now to see holly and cindy, did notice a few misspelled/missing letters in the agenda pages, ivy and stan i believe, also as stated above, when updating peoplegram, the text reads photogram and then phone states peoplegram, not sure if intended but thought i'd mention it.

I actually have a cat that looks a lot like Lola, but her name is Sarabi and she's almost 12. This morning I was sitting on a chair relaxing. She got up on my lap so I was petting her. She was purring away. When it was time to make lunch and I went to get up she hissed at me!

Really enjoyed the first chapter! The characterization is great and it took all of about 5 seconds for me to start shipping Lena and Holly! Haha

Wow, fantastic work! It looks like you have reworked GGGB with your new skills and possibilities. Same way of story-telling, but simply much better quality. I'm very happy that you are improving and even a bit proud for your work:) Hope to see some news soon!

Matt Gorman

I want to see Lena and Ian hook up at least once, but have both hook up with others. And Axel end up in jail. He's a twat.

Amazing work, Eva! I really love your writing. I feel like I know who just about every character in the story is as if I'd known them for months, I can believe all their social connections, and I don't know how you've managed that in so few words and with no exposition. Every single character in this story is a fully fledged human being, with their stories, their strengths, and their flaws, and they're all just downright lovable. Ok, maybe the jury's still out on one or two ;) Speaking as a guy, I felt that I could slip into Ian's shoues without any issues, since you ask; most scenes were familiar, nothing stood out as being out of place. I really liked Friday night drinks, it was a very social scene and great to get to know everyone. Lena's side did feel a little more emotionally engaging. Not more realistic, just more endearing. Might be just a personal view. That conversation between Lena and her mom? Pure gold. All the hugs <3 I also loved her friendship with Louise, and Lola, who is simply adorable. I can't wait to meet everyone again in chapter 2!

I played up until the switch to Lena, and so far I'm loving it. My only comment would be, in some instances, you have icons showing what skills would be improved but most of the time they don't show. Can they show all the time, or at least have an option to? Loving the new art and characters, it's interesting to see them after the reveal. I also like how the story is being laid out, I can see lots of options for how the characters could progress, and how their lives might interact with one another. PS The cat needs to be more central to the story :P

Brother Bethor

I was browsing through the game directory and found the music folder. I don't know if it was intentional or not but Lena's theme is very beautiful and at the same time so sad. On the contrary, Ian's theme is much more optimistic. One would think that they should be switched. At least that is what I get from the their initial character exposition: Ian is deeply depressed and Lena, while struggling, is way more optimistic and energetic. But that is just my 0,02$

Typo: Lena says "Let'see..." at one point.

Weight of the Void

How do you open the menu to save? edit: Oh, apparently the menu doesn't exist in the first scene. Odd choice. edit2: I'm a bit concerned after finishing this. It feels like you're putting all your focus on narrative, and that this game isn't going to have anywhere near as much focus on sex as your previous game, nor be anywhere as depraved. Which is fine, I guess, VNs can take all kinds of different forms and they can still be great. Just not what I was hoping for. As for the rest, the artwork is gorgeous and the UI is good, I just wish right-click sent me directly to the save screen instead of making me click through to it. I like the characters (aside from Perry, who comes across as a douche), especially the leads. Holly is adorable. There were moments where I was expecting a choice, but there wasn't one (such as where Robert asks if you want him to escort you home, or to talk, or whatever). Overall, feeling tentative about this chapter, waiting to see what the next one will be like.

Пожалуйста, продолжай делать игру. С нетерпением жду релиза второй части. Видно что ты растешь и пробудешь новый подход. Лайк.

Is there an android version?

Kev ooooh

A really well polished slick first intallment. Love the characters and the setting so far. Lena/Ed and Ian/Cindy. would like to see Lena be the one to seduce a shy Ed.

Played through it the last few days. I have to say, I'm thoroughly impressed. I mean, Good Girl Gone Bad was a lot of fun, but the characters felt fairly generic, and the game quickly turned into 'hey, let's see how many people Ashley can have sex with before this is over'. ORS seems a lot more interested in telling a story than in 'just' creating a fuckfest like GGGB did (although that was fun, of course!). Some of the side characters still feel a bit stereotypical (Jeremy in particular comes to mind), but others seem a lot more fleshed out this time round. So do the two mains, of course. I also thought it was very interesting how the scenes with both of them worked, how choices I made playing Ian in the café changed the dialogue when it came to playing Lena's perspective of the scene. I can imagine that from a writing and coding perspective, this will become pretty challenging the more the game progresses, but I trust you'll pull it off. :-) Assuming the game continues as strong as it started with this chapter, they should invent an 'adult video game Oscar' and award it to you.

Hi Eva, nice work there ! Already hooked up with this first version, can't wait to see what's coming ! And amazing art, as always, the new style, with some "shade" is really nice ! And again, writing is top, keep it like that, another top game on the road !

I get to the part where Ian is thinking how great it was to see his friends then it says an exception has occurred.

Kcilfap

It seems like the stat screen doesn't actually keep track of Lena's stats; it displays a 1 in every column, no matter how many upgrades you get. Is that just on my end? Beyond that, though, I'm loving the first chapter! Excellent art and some very well-written characters.
