Hey everyone!

First and foremost welcome to the many of you that are new.  I have received an overwhelming amount of love and attention recently and I just haven't had time to really sit and respond to everyone or fully welcome people.

So WELCOME!

This patreon grew from a rag tag group to a larger community pretty quickly and I feel like I want to get people's input on what that should mean.  Right now I am not capable of being a full time content creator, but that should change soon if I can maintain the growth and momentum I have right now.  At the same time, I'm still in grad school, fathering two children, and being a husband.  So, I just don't have time to up my productivity that much if I'm going to keep making content every few weeks.

That said, I do wonder what else people might want out of this patreon to make sure it's worth while for everyone.   I won't commit to anything I think is untenable, but i'm open to suggestions.

Also, I am hoping to create a discord soon.  But 1- I don't know discord well, and 2- I will need a few mods.

I'm super scared at the idea of hosting an online community around my work.  I know from experience that online communities whether they be reddit boards, facebook groups, and likely discords, can be toxic so we will go very slow and PLEASE give grace to the way I choose mods and the way things are moderated early on.  But if you're interested in being a Mod please email me at signifyre@gmail.com so i can start some type of vetting process.

I think that's it... new video is in the production phase and it's shaping up to be out on time next Friday and it has my first SPONSOR! and it's actually something I feel good being sponsored by! woooooo!

Peace and Blessings

Personally I don’t expect anything additional for being a patron, just wanted to support you more than the fraction of a penny my YouTube view gets you. As someone else who is married, raising kids, working, and going to grad school I feel you on how overwhelming balancing the responsibilities can be in terms of time-management. Hope you keep blowing up like you have been.

Madeline Jacobson

So excited to see you grow! All I’m looking for as a patron is to directly support you so you can continue making great content that helps me grow in my understanding of other’s experiences. I am very excited for your upcoming view on allies! I do like the idea of getting further insight into the topics you cover, wether through blog posts or Patreon only vids, but that’s not why I’m supporting and I will continue to support and see it as worth my while regardless of if you add those sorts of perks. Congrats again on 100k!

Ellie Nakamura

I'm personally not expecting anything beyond the amazing content you are putting out now. Access to some extras is cool, but I'm mostly here to give support!

NotMyself

I am a part of the new rush of people having discovered you via the Bo Burnham video. I watched a few more of your videos, subscribed and watched a few more. I want to see more of this kind of content and decided to support a creator I enjoy. So I personally don’t need you to add more. Use my money to buy some gear you need or license a piece of software that will up your production quality. I’ll still be watching.

Shea Elliott

Like others have said above, I personally do not expect any more than you already do. I became a patron because I really appreciate the content you're already putting out and because I had the means to do so. Grad school and kids sounds rough on top of all the new rush, so I hope you're taking time for you too. Take care, hope all us new folks aren't overwhelming you too much :)

Jeff Menter

I'd like to echo what others are saying. I think your video essays are astute, and kind, and thoughtful, and I love the perspective they provide. I'm very glad you're getting so much attention and viewers. I don't expect any change in output, (and I don't even want any Patreon extras.) Your time is precious, and I'd much rather see time/energy/effort going into video essays rather than discord/patreon/whatever, for what it's worth. But yeah, dang, your stuff is amazing and I'm super glad for you!

Bri (@brieface)

Happy to support you just to help support your work. And what you do now is honestly just fine for here, where you continue to use this patreon as a way to share your thoughts and commentary about the videos you create and your general responses to the responses to your work. It adds a nice layer. The only other thing I could think of is maybe some discussions or voting if you need help deciding on your next topic? Or some shorter bite sized commentary videos. As I said tho just what you’re doing now is just fine. Hope you’re well.

Cassandra Lovejoy

Same here. We are here to make it easier for you to create the content you want to create, and to reduce the pressure of the youtube logarithm and the eventual threat of demonetization. If all you have time to do now is keep making awesome videos, great. If over time your interest in using your platform changes or expands, also great. Joining your Patreon means I'm with you for the long haul, not because of any perks or to apply pressure for you to do more. My only other Patreon is HONY, and just *yesterday* he posted a whole thing about the HONY community. "if you are consistent enough, for a long enough amount of time, a community of people will gather around the work. Kinda like a campfire."

John Larson

I'm delighted to find that the thing I came to say was already perfectly stated by others--I started supporting because I like the work you have been doing and have no expectations that you will do anything additional. I think it speaks volumes to what you've worked on that that seems to be the consensus view so far. What an immediately lovely community! Keep making content that you like and I'm here for it.

Congratulations on the recent success! It is great that you are getting all this attention and hopefully the momentum continues to build a larger audience. Like many others here, it was your Burnham video first caught my attention but it was the "I don't dream of Labor" video that had me sub to your patreon though. Your insightful perspective is incredibly valuable to the left. While I agree with leftists that racism is primarily a weapon used to keep the lower class down, the cold hard fact is that racism is built into the foundation of nearly every American institution. We cannot ignore that fact as we seek to bring more socialist and leftist ideas to the greater public. I'm grateful for the time and effort you are putting in. I've been spending a lot time this past year reading black literature and history, particularly the works of James Baldwin, I've been learning things I was never taught in school, and am incredibly appreciative of anytime a person of color is willing to sit down and talk about what literally thousands of black artists in have been saying about America for centuries. I've got no topic suggestions or ideas yet, I'm planning on watching more of your older videos to see what you have already covered, and right now I'm just interested in whatever you want to talk about.

People contributed to your Patreon because of the content you've already created. We've already decided that what you've done was worth the money, and we want to support you in your current efforts. Personally, if you never put out another video, I'm happy enough with your current body of work to chip in. Everything new is just gravy.

Hunter Blanton

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to follow and support an empathetic, deep thinker who wants to tackle things that reside in the murky gray of the real world. That's enough for me. I too am raising the children, doing the marriage, navigating our disabilities and mental health concerns. I am solid full up. I'm content to sit on the sidelines cheering you on as you do what you want and are able to do.

Mary Kruse

Hey, I love your work but don't have any expectations. I would much rather you take care of yourself and your own than see content on anyone else's schedule but your own. Thank you for sharing your experiences and knowledge thus far; it's been in many ways eye-opening to me. Good luck!

Shawn Lundin

One more for the "no expectations" camp. I didn't join for perks, but if you're looking for ideas...well... YOU'RE the idea man!🤣 Maybe another 'ask me anything" for the newbies. You've already given me my "value" for years to come!

Rome Gandelsman

I think a conversational podcast would be great. Happy for your success!

Midramble

Congrats on the growth. I'm personally happy with any pace as long as it affords you the time to continue the nuanced and deeply human quality of work you've been putting out so far. Maybe some day this'll grow large enough to get production values that grab the amount of eyes that content like yours should have.

Macdonny Saintil

Congratulations on your recent success! I don't think I've ever subscribed to anyone's Patreon, but I'm glad to support your work. I look forward to enjoying and learning more from your content!

T. Ryder

I signed up after I saw the Mike Tyson history. That was great stuff. Other videos are great too. If you set up some sort of chat board, I probably wouldn't take part. I don't have time for that stuff. Just do more of what you've been doing.

Jon Sawatsky

I would be surprised if anyone joining up is like "HE BETTER CRANK OUT THAT CONTENT". I watched two of your videos and learned dozens of new ways to think and got a great book recommend; I'm just a patron to say thanks for that.

Chris Franson

Great content is great, and honestly, you're pumping out stellar, long-form discussions at a hell of a rate, especially given everything else going on in your life besides YouTube. I'll look forward to more content and a discussion board of some sort if they materialize, but by all means keep doing what's best for you.

Nic Wolff

I too just joined to support the excellent – and I think important – work you're already doing. The important thing to me is that you don't burn out. If you're worried about giving good weight, you could switch to per-creation billing.

Austin New

You do you. I wanted to repay you for the knowledge I'd been given. There's a lot of binary discourse around men in society, and you've helped paint the shadows for me. My 2 cents, if you want to build a community on Discord or wherever, build it around doing something: a yearly charity drive, a book club, a movie club, street fighter tournaments, something practical you're passionate about. If there's anything you thought might be awesome but you'd need a few hundred people to join in on... throwing out a google survey can help gaige interest in any of that kind of stuff, too.

GingerBlues

Honestly, you could never post anything here and just keep doing what you've been doing on youtube, and I would still want to support you. I have learned a lot from your videos and the work you do is valuable on its own without any extras. Seriously, thank you for all you do

Myles Haynes

I’m with @GingerBlues on this one. You could never post anywhere but YouTube and I’d still want to support. Really love the channel, I’m a newcomer so I have a lot of the back catalogue to go through still.

Manny Duran

Hey brother, do you have a Discord server?

Ghost

I may be able to help moderate in the future. Or various tech/IT support. Hit me up (same name on twitter).

Jarrah Storey

Hey I just joined because I got so much value out of your Bo Burnham vid. Definitely no pressure to make more content! (in fact then I feel overwhelmed by keeping up with shit). Quality thought takes time. Just wanted to show support for what you've already done. <3

MalAdjusted

Hey man, just joined here. I've watched a few of your videos now and every one of them has taught me something or made me laugh, usually both. Full disclosure, I'm a British white guy from a small town just trying to educate myself, and your work has been an invaluable resource for that. No pressure to crank it up, as others have said, quality work takes time and you've definitely got more important stuff going off, but I very much look forward to seeing what you do next. Big love to you and your family.

Caffeine_unicorn

I caught your Bo Burnham vid ANF quickly went through the rest of your videos. Love your stuff, it’s so thoughtful and well mad, and I wanted to help support. No pressure to increase output, life and family comes first. I just appreciate your insight and giving me a perspective on things that I didn’t have before.

Isabel and David Stone

Just joined up this week. I love the long form video essays, and I'm so happy to discover you. Just keep doing you, because it's freakin great. I wish I could put into better words how refreshingly wonderful your channel is. I've never been so interactive with a creator before. I agree with others, you could do nothing extra on here and I'd still support. The Discord can become a cool way to interact with your group. I just started to use it myself since we moved out of state to talk with my group of friends. It's fairly simple to figure out and I'm sure any of us would help. Keep up the truly insightful, funny, and kick ass work!!!

Rowan H

New viewer here! I also discovered you through your Bo Burnham video a few days ago, and thank the algorithm for that. I love your videos, and plan to check out more of the black creators you recommend. As a white woman who believes in leftist politics I truly value finding more black voices to listen to and learn from. I'm glad to hear you've been getting more attention and more followers! I hope the support keeps building, because you absolutely deserve it for the depth and the compassion of your analyses! On the topic of suggestions for patreon content, maybe you could occasionally write up shorter essays on topics that merit addressing but that don't quite merit a full video, or something like that?

Teejay

Hi! Thanks for everything you've been doing in terms of video essays on Youtube! In terms of Patreon content, maybe you could do something like a Q&A livestream with Patreons after the release of new videos as a way for people to further engage with the topic, but also discuss your process for content creation?
