"I don't think you'd get along with my sister " please START with that bit . Poor Jinshi was struggling

It just also so funny how well and immediate Maomao read Lihaku's lifestyle just by seeing his body. But with Jinshi, if she could wear those glasses that simulates cataracts, she would. 🤣

Kita

I worried for him though - for Lihaku - when he made a fist thinking that Jinshi would disrespect Pairin. I doubt he would’ve, but if he did he would’ve lost his life.

Edit: I should point out this is not spoiler, just observational awareness. It may sound like a spoiler, but it's never mentioned in the anime. Lakan already mentioned his intentions in a prior episode. Even though Jinshi has paid for Maomao, Lakan is clearly still trying to sway the old lady. His attempt to bribe the old lady was misunderstood by a servant girl as Lakan trying to buyout a courtesan, but in truth, he' still trying to buy Maomao.

Unrelated to this episode, but in case you haven't heard it yet, they announced Apothecary Diaries 3 for October 2026 and a movie for December 2026.

I really enjoy seeing Maomao's interactions with Lihaku. Always very amusing, and so much more so when Jinshi catches them! HAHAHA also love when Jinshi misunderstands her because of the way she phrases stuff. XD Your second pronunciation to Loulan is more right, btw. It's sounds kinda like "lowland" without the "d". ^^ And yeah, we got an update for the next season! First cour is October 2026 while second cour is April 2027! (So excited for these because some more of my fave parts of the novel will be animated! Can't wait for us to see it!!) There's also a movie for December 2026 which is gonna be an all-new original story by the author, so no one knows what's it gonna be about yet. :D

It seems indeed Jinshi was evaluating Lihaku and his morality as you mentionned. 🤔👛💃🏻 In highly charged and perilous political situations, officials who refuse bribes or any form of compromise are considered more precious than gold or guards. By rejecting the offer, Lihaku has demonstrated that he cannot be bought and may remain loyal to the imperial family. For Jinshi this makes him an important possible ally in any future confrontation with the people who are trying to overthrow or under cut the emperor and his family. Lihaku appears to be a self-made man who refuses charity, but he might consider trading his off-the-books work to uncover more plots for payment. This could help him get closer to his dream of buying out Pairin...unless she decides for her prince to handle the financing herself as Maomao suggested.

Apothecary Diaries helps me to learn more about the female body, which still holds many mysteries for me as an adult haha. Before watching the anime I didn't know that a woman could produce milk and breastfeed without having been pregnant. 🙈 After digging a bit into the topic, it turns out this was a common practice during the time of our grandmothers or great-grandmothers, as well as in some cultures. 🤱

This is another fun episode, another great reaction :D The bit where Jinshi talks to Lihaku and Jinshi reacts badly, isn't because Lihaku called Maomao a cat - people who only rely on subtitles seem all to misunderstand that part, which is fair enough, since you don't have enough information. Jinshi's face changes when Lihaku says 'natsuku nara' where 'natsuku' means 'to have taken a liking to', 'to be affectionate' (in your subtitles it was 'to let your guard down', which is kinda okay, but kinda not). It's a word often used for cats, basically meaning they trust you enough to let you pet them and feed them and come to you if they need either of those. It's a term of affection, not love (because you know cats), but still Jinshi is unhappy for any mention of affection connected with another man. That's why he gets upset, not because of the cat part. The flowers are plum blossoms - cherry blossoms don't get that dark pink. Also judging by the remaining vegetation (or lack thereof) it's still very early spring, which is plum blossom season - they are mostly very early blooming. Also the petals and branches are different but that may be hard to judge in an animation setting. Dark pink (called red in Japanese) plum blossom's flower language is 'nobility', 'patience', 'loyalty' :)

You will see in couple of episode if you are right.

I do apologize if I came off as forceful in my comment. I really love Apothecary Diaries and just love talking about the story with other people. The only other series that did that to me was Ascendance of a Bookworm.

Lihaku is one of my favourite supporting characters so I was really glad to see him get focus in this episode! He’s such a genuine guy and his love for Pairin is very sweet. The scene where Maomao was checking out Lihaku’s body and Jinshi walking in was hilarious! Maomao’s straightforwardness didn’t help things but it was just so funny to see Jinshi’s reactions haha

Lihaku is a good boi 🧡

Omg no don't worry! I find it really hard to phrase myself sometimes! Yes - a few people have mentioned Ascendance of a Bookworm as a series I'd love!!

Lihaku is the big brother she never had ❤️
