Oh right. It got cut from the anime, but Maomao continued selling the adult books to Gyuokuyo, Lihua, and the emperor after the training session. Ugh, I want to talk about the ending of this episode so badly, but I can't. Why must I wait till Tuesday for the next reaction? IMHO, these next 2 episodes are among my favorites. The author is a brilliant writer. You're almost done with season 1, but what's stopping you from continuing with season 2? I really do hope you start off season 2 right after. Season 1 and 2 were from books 1 through 4, and was originally all the author was going to write, so the series has excellent continuity between the two seasons.

Lakan has a condition that's why he saw people as pawns will not elaborate further. Lol I love them. Maomao is enjoying being the protagonist of a medical detective mystery novel while Jinshi is wondering why he is stuck in such a slow burn romance novel full of tropes. Bless them, their POVs are not only NOT aligned, they are not even on the same PLANET.

Jinshi has to put up with Lakans whims, because of their difference in Rank. he is a "Eunuch", "Manager of the Rear Palace". Lakan is part of the Military, forgot if they said his exact Rank already so im not going to name it eiher, but one way or another, unless Jinshi drops his Facade of "Managing Eunuch", Lakan will be above him in Rank

Lakan is such an intriguing character. At first, I was taken aback, but he is starting to grow on me. His face blindness isn't just a simple visual impairment but also intertwined with his deep strategic mind. 🧐🧠 Seeing people as shogi or go pieces probably symbolizes how he perceives interactions and personalities through a lens of strategy and symbolism, rather than facial features. The fact that he can recognize Maomao and prior her mother indicates these individuals hold special significance (perhaps emotional or personal) making their identities stand out despite his general face blindness. I like it! Lakan knows that Jinshi is the Emperor's brother. He's told him as much haha! So there's no illusion of rank between them - Lakan knows that Jinshi is higher than him but they both care for Maomao enough to tolerate each other.

true, he does know, but jinshi also cannot actually do anything about him without "revealing the secret" so to say. so as long as he is still pretending to be of a lower rank, lakan will treat him as such
