Jasmine tea can be bought as ground up dried tea (these days in a tea bag), as well as as a flower that "blooms" in the water. I haven't had the the full flower bud type, but I have had Sakura (cherry blossom) tea that way where you put the bud in the water and it opens up. As you might expect jasmine tea has a very floral scent and flavour...I like it.

I love how this show isn't scared to delve into the power dynamics of the concubines. I love how they show Gyokuyo as this very beautiful, but also very clever and tactical woman. She isn't just the emperors favourite for her looks. it is such an easy trap for shows to just focus on the men, because the women's world is "boring" or "just gossip". So it really fills a void in shows. I actually read a book series recently called "Tales of the Otori" by Lian Hearn, and it was really great, similar time frame as this show, but in "not japan" vs "not china". But that was with focus on the men, and the women are clever in the books, especially the later ones - but the author there did not manage to flesh them out quite as well as they have done in this show. So in a way, this show is upping my bar for what it means to write a clever book or show about personal intricacies and political power/display of power. Obviously not going into things that will happen since you will see that yourself - but it's great to see that just the amount of servants can create so much discussion between the characters in the show. Since we saw Jinshi also remark on it in the previous episode.

I have also never had the full flower kind but I do love the flavour of jasmine tea. I have never heard of the Sakura tea! I’ll have to see if I can find it anywhere near me (live in Canada). I do love jasmine rice too - just thought of that. Love how it smells too 🥰

It’s ok if you miss things. I have rewatched this show so many times that I can’t even remember my thoughts the first time around 😂 And I have seen so many reactions and noticed many things through others reactions. It is a very re-watchable show, so I hope you get to maybe revisit it while waiting for season 3 😆

Don't worry about missing stuff, especially when you notice so many little details right away! It wasn't until after the season was over that I found out it was Shin that knocked away Maomao's flower message. You also completely nailed Lakan's character immediately which was insane! I remember watching you like "holy shit what did I miss on my first watch that gave all this away that early!?" Very much enjoying seeing you watch these. This is the only series I've ever watched where I immediately went and bought the light novels to read afterwards.
