They're so pretty!!!

I can't wait to sink my teeth into these. Of course - I won't read 3 and 4 until I've finished S2 but god it's going to be so hard to hold myself back from reading on before S3 🙈❤️

Ayye that's what's up. I was contemplating buying the 5th one, since I'm caught up on S2, but part of me wants to be completely surprised with S3 so I don't know yet.

Enjoy them 🔥. Back in the day when I finished the first season, I couldn't hold myself back and read all 15 volumes straight through, barely slept for 2 weeks lol I'd never read light novels before, didn't think they'd be so easy to get into, it's like watching the anime but with more detail When I felt an existential void after finishing them, fortunately the second season trailer had been revealed and with that I was able to keep my hype through the roof for several more months.

I am also wrestling with this feeling of wanting to read them all but also wanting to be completely unknown for S3 haha!!

Honestly read a little bit of Book 1 and the accuracy of the anime is outstanding BUT I love the additional details that the LN provide that aren't in the show. Just bits of context or further descriptions of what's taking place or even just more of MaoMao's thoughts. It's why I will always love books over movies because movies are very show don't tell but books really are great at alluding and hinting in a way that you can dissect it more!!

As a consumer of reactions I have the selfish desire for you to go into S3 fully blind 😅

Lysandia

as someone who is up to date with the LNs, i sincerely hope you enjoy them and be able to resist the urge i failed to continue after~

Mei

Omg enjoy!!! It's fun reading more details in the LNs then seeing how they're adapted in the anime. 💗

YUP!! I also love the additional context. I feel so validated because some of the YT comments have been quite mean saying that I'm placing 'modern politics' onto Imperial China and then reading even just the first 3 chapters of the first LN and the author is outright "PRINCESSES ARE TREATED LIKE SHIT BECAUSE THEY AREN'T BOYS" makes me so happy. Like an "oh yes I did actually understand the show - people are just stinky and mean online". I love The Apothecary Diaries and there are so many sweet people on YT but omg I've never met so many that just refuse to allow you to have an alternative theory or discussion without correcting or over-explaining. I think what irks me the most is when people over-explain something that I very evidently understand and treat me as if I don't understand haha!

Mei

I'm so sorry to hear you got such comments. 😭 Reading that makes me even more supportive of you staying back from YT comments. 🥲 Please don't ever try to look at the Apothecary Diaries fandom on tiktok because from what I've seen from posts shared by friends, they're a whole other kind of fans (like, so much misinformation spreads there and many believes them akdshkssk 😭). I guess this is a reality of a really popular show -- diverse fans, including ones which may annoy us. 😅

It's so frustrating isn't it haha?! I think the one thing I have to keep reminding myself is that a lot of the comments are formed from a full and complete knowledge of the series. They aren't watching it for the first time. They likely have watched, re-watched, and formed their opinions from reading Fan Discussions too which only validates their "I'm right and I need to show and tell you how right I am and how wrong your theories are". Which can be really frustrating for me whose watching and reacting based off a single episode and forming a discussion unscripted when I receive intense judgement if I have a wrong theory or I miss something. It's as if people choose not to remember how their thoughts when watching for the first time won't be the same thoughts they have now especially if they are informed by fan-discussions and deep-dive videos. It's like people trying to play a game of 'look how much smarter I am than you' when it's not a fair competition between having watched / re-watched the entire show versus someone's first watch. Not to mention I do wonder how many of the opinions formed are genuinely ones they had from watching or if they were developed from other people's ideas and theories online that they've just taken as 'canon' so therefore every other idea or thought is wrong. But yeah it happens in any fanbase. I've seen so many AOT Instagram Reels lately where I really question if I watched the same show as some of the people commenting because the takes are wild! 😅
