OFT this was a long one! Lots to talk about - lots to theorise! IF you notice any random cuts it's because Sully was being a menace and I was having to pause to sort him out so tried to make the flow seamless despite the interruptions!

I feel like the episodes for this and Vinland are getting longer and longer haha!

Also can we pinpoint when my historical hyper fixation gets triggered? 😂

Love how in-depth this series makes you think as you watch/read it. This is the first anime that made me immediately buy all the light novels i could, and it’s just so well adapted. I never really comment on patreon but seeing how into the series you’re getting i just needed to say im so happy you’re enjoying it!! You’re so passionate about subject matter that is relative to it, that watching you process stuff and speak so well to it is amazing!! Hope you and your kitty are doing great!! All the love to you <33

Aw thank you so much!! Honestly this show is so beautiful - I am trying to savour as much of it as I can before I have to wait for S3!! Sully is currently sat beside me in his new mounted desk bed so he may become a more regular feature if he behaves and sleeps there haha!! Love to you too!!

7:00 By this point, I don't think the anime ever mentioned Bason as getting married soon, nor does he currently have a fiancé. Gaoshun has multiple children, which I believe is all we know by this point due to his use of a plural when he talked about his children super vaguely. Around 42:00 I'm pretty sure the emperor already knows Maomao can make medicine, he may have even commented on it, too. When Jinshi says, "we are turning a blind eye," I think he's including the emperor. (Note, the following is opinion not pulled anywhere from the story beyond what we've seen up to this point) While the emperor could very easily give Maomao special treatment, a leader that gives special treatment despite existing laws can grow the ire of their subjects. However, it's not as simple as just ending that law. Many of his male subjects, especially doctors, might become enraged if they learned that the emperor has allowed women to become medical professionals. It's that Catch-32. The emperor wants more female professionals, but he has to figure out how to do it without angering the public. Another excellent reaction to watch. Can't wait for more. After I got my analysis so wrong last episode, I feel so nervous posting these comments now, but I just feel the urge to talk Apothecary Diaries.

Oh my goodness, this is one of my hyper fixations too, I almost wrote a short research paper for one of my publishing courses a few years ago about it and I fell down the rabbit hole ever since. So the thing about women practicing medicine is that in reality, many towns had a small population and typically that means they had one doctor for the entire village, this was usually the eldest women or matron and it was a highly respected position for a women to take. However since she is the only doctor, that means she knows everything about everyone, like who is allergic to barley or if the maid of a duke is pregnant with his baby since the only doctor they could go to was the matron. This culmination of information meant that the matron had immense power of the village, power that men did not want them to have. Enter witches, a lot of witches and there stereotypes had to due with what women in positions of power did and looked like: older women for medicine and large cauldrons for brewing alcohol, which in those days was extremely important as water was rarely the common drink. They handled the food which could be easily poisoned (hey maomao) and it was a serious concern that they would be the only ones with the knowledge to do it (why poison was seen as a women's weapon due to the knowledge of medicinal herbs being coveted between matrons and their matriarchy), Aqua (Giulia) Tofana an herb used so often as it was tasteless and odorless that it was cultivated to extinction! Enter killing black cats because they were seen as signs of witches, enter basically killing any cats as the hysteria of the Witch Trials ranks up, enter growing rat population due to main predators being whipped out, ENTER THE BLACK DEALTH with recently a humongous percentage of the doctor population and knowledge completely whipped out from the towns leading to no town doctors who were educated with the knowledge that the matrons usually passed down, ENTER HALF THE WORLD BASICALLY DYING BECAUSE OF THE POWER GRAB. Oh my goodness I could rant about this for days but the point is that any misogyny, even in previous civilizations were NOT mainly because of the notion that women were weak (Although the major accounts used this as reasoning) It was the fear of how strong the women are and the power they weld.

It was confirmed that it was Bason who was getting married or at least intending to take a wife in S1. Gaoshun says his youngest son and Jinshi goes "Bason? He's only 19" and Gaoshun responds "yes the same age as you" and leads into the conversation about Gaoshun wanting to spend more time with his grandchildren and Jinshi wrapping up his role in the rear palace to settle down and find a wife 😊 In relation to practicing medicine etc I wholeheartedly agree - that's what I was getting at in my discussion. The emperor is turning a blind eye but it's harder when it's brought up to him directly by those opposed to Maomao doing it ❤️

Loved your reaction to Jinshi being dressed as the Moon Fairy! It’s fun to hear your theories from this episode! Always enjoy hearing your thoughts on this show especially on the gender dynamics. P.S. Sully should definitely have his own channel since he seems to love being on camera haha 😆

I love how you noted how much Maomao mentions Jinshi's beauty in the light novel. Deny all she want but the attraction is clearly there 😆💕 And so much interesting theories you got here! It'll be so admirable if you'll really manage to hold off from reading the volumes beyond s2 after this. 😆

I like to think that Lishu is also really happy when she see's Jingshi because he's probably super kind to her... And her ladies in waiting can't easily bully her when he's around, so although she probably doesn't have the confidence to disclose she is (or if Maomao was correct and she isn't aware it's happening), but knows it's better when he's around so it makes her happy... The similarity to his mother is probably a big help though haha

Hiii Sully! And also, I didn't realize the story was probably about the envoys until about midway in this episode. And the scenes very early in the previous episode being the guards looking at a house, and then one of the envoys meeting alone with someone who looks to be important, I didn't see that at all until the 2nd re-watch with you. But I also didn't want to mention it, as even minor details can carry big impacts with this show. I keep forgetting how heavy this show is on plot, so I am here knowing what will happen, but I am still amazed that it is all in the 2nd season. It's kinda the same as with season 1. You think back and each story and then go "how on earth did they manage to fit all this into 24 episodes?!" I will say nothing more, just enjoy :)

Finally i'm up to date with reactions !!! I really like the Lishu, Jinshi, Ah-Duo Theory, it makes so much sense
