Sorry if the ending was a little rushed. There is more I want to discuss in relation to Askeladd's reference to 'monsters' but I'll add that in 1 x 17. I had a meeting with my mortgage advisor at 5pm and I was still filming my outro at 4:55 haha!

I appreciate how you acknowledges the weight of gore and death; it's meant to evoke strong emotions in viewers. It raises a profound question: why would anyone resort to fighting, killing, and torturing others? 😵🩸🗡 Also, great observation about Askeladd, I didn’t see that! 👏💯 As you pointed out, when he swears an oath in the name of his father, Olaf, he fully intends to break it eventually. But, if he swears by his ancestor, Artorius, it signifies his commitment to honor that oath until the very end. What I love about Vinland Saga is its informative nature. 👨‍🏫 The series is surprisingly historically accurate. Askeladd's words to the man he was torturing ring true: the ancestors of the English, the Angles and Saxons, invaded Britain much like the Danes are doing now. They drove the native Celts—Askeladd's ancestors—into the mountains of Wales and Scotland, seizing their lands. The Anglo-Saxons brutally tortured and killed the Celts, who were living peacefully alongside the Romans at the time. Originally, Wales was known as "Cymru," meaning "Countryman". The term "Wales" is derived from an Anglo-Saxon word meaning "foreigner," reflecting how the Celts were forced into less fertile lands and labeled as outsiders. This is why Askeladd harbors such disdain for the man who accuses him of being a thief; he sees the injustice faced by his people who were rendered foreigners in their own homeland.

Thorkell is such an intriguing character. 🤩 He embodies the essence of a Viking, deeply rooted in the worship of Odin and Tyr, and adheres to a moral code that, while not inherently condoning violence, values honorable deaths. Vikings believe that those who die bravely may become einherjar, fighting alongside Odin during Ragnarok against the forces of Hel and Loki.💪🏻⚡️🌌 For Thorkell, cowardice, betrayal, and dishonor are unacceptable. 🫠👎🏻 He rejects those who seek easy victories, deeming them unworthy of Valhalla. In his eyes, such individuals do not deserve to fight by his side, and he would rather kill them than allow them to tarnish the honor of his ranks. Interestingly, Thorkell would likely have spared those who fought valiantly for Askeladd, even in defeat. 👍🏻 To him, their willingness to stand by their word and fight until the end would demonstrate their honor and make them worthy of his respect. In the world of a true Viking like Thorkell, reputation, words, and honor are everything.🫡

I intend to speak more about the latter :) I was unfortunately rushed for time due to a meeting so didn't get to touch upon it but it'll be emphasised in 1 x 17 haha!
