I love that the first homunculus ever created was Pride lol, who else from the seven deadly sins really. Very fitting.

Adam

It’s hilarious to me that Pride is forced to constantly demean and restrain himself in the guise of a human child. Instead of being a monstrous being he is forced to pretend to be a “dutiful child” near every moment. Given that he is a very old homunculus, how must this feel?

Adam

Upon reflection it is sad, not hilarious

You may have missed it (and I apologize - if you do not appreciate such comments, do not read further) when Kimblee hears of Ed’s resolve not to kill, he is impressed by their character. Timestamp 19:30 ish. He’s a strange man, not without some sort of moral conviction. He shows people disdain when he thinks that they are faltering in their convictions, such as the scene where he mocks Riza in Ishval.

I didn't miss it 😊 it just didn't tie in with what I wanted to discuss so it never came up as a point haha!

Well Pride is Wrath's relative in a way (older sibling)😂😂 I do think Kimblee is earnest about his convictions and he does look up to people with their own convictions, he strikes me more like a Chaotic character

JVSkol

I'm gonna have to defend Kimbley here but he was honest about respecting Winry's parents, his only moral currency is sticking to your convictions till the very end (even if they do not align with his own) and Winry's parents died standing of their conviction of helping others

DrSophieDarlingReacts

I don't doubt that but he was still being emotionally manipulative nonetheless. I never said he didn't respect them but he was bringing up the matter to get Winry on side.

Pride's shadow form, with the multiple eyes and extending grin, haunted me as a child 😂 sooo creepyyyy

It also implies that the first thing that Father god rid of was his Pride, being the first emotion he put into a homunculus.

This is well put. As JVSkol said above here, he also genuinely respected Winry's parents for the same reason. He's unquestionably evil and without any form of empathy, but he does have a consistent belief system. I also like how he says in Ishvaal that he knows that Roy/Hughes/Riza dont understand him, but equally, he doesnt understand them. His brain works differently, and despite that fact, he is happy with who he is. He's manipulative, sociopathic, and brutal, but also respectful, honest, and sincere in his beliefs. It's what makes him an interesting character and villain

Quick note about Pride's creation based on previous info: there are 2 known ways to make a Homonculus.. One is split off from Father into a separate and unique being (as we saw happen with Gluttony when he was recreated a few episodes back), and the other is putting a Philosopher Stone FROM Father into an existing being. At the time, Wrath was the ONLY one created this way (which is why he ages), until Greed was put into Ling. But that means Selim was created as an entity from Father, not put into an existing child.
