So big thank you to Kyle for giving me this idea!

But would we be interested in me watching some OP's and ED's and trying to guess what the story is about and then refer back to it at a later point when I've watched the series to see how right / wrong I was?

I thought it might be fun since I'm struggling to find the time to sit and react to the OP's and ED's with how much we have going on BUT at least I'd have something to refer back to when I eventually do.

I will watch OP's and ED's for shows that I don't intend to watch for a while too.

Does that sound like something that you'd find fun / interesting to watch?!

Minority opinion: I hate being spoiled by an OP as to what is going to happen in a season. You do you though :D

Hezer

Yes! if you actually do that well before watching the series, so you've forgotten any spoilers that might show up in series that have multiple seasons and multiple ops/eds.

Haku -

definitely sounds fun but SOME shows straight up spoil everything in openings so i’d be careful picking which ones

Logan G

Yeah thats the main reason I am saying no, to many openings show outright scenes and spoilers, however some are very subtle in comparison or outright random; so those might be good to do

DrSophieDarlingReacts

Tbf by the time I get to watch them my brain will likely have forgotten everything haha!!

Sebas Tian

I like the idea. But these openings and endings you intend to watch and guess the plot of, will that mean that you won't be watching/analysing them when you watch the actual anime?

DrSophieDarlingReacts

I would be going back to them to review what I initially said and analysing where I went wrong referring back to the OP's and ED's that relate to specific symbolism and themes.

Sebas Tian

Nice, well I like when someone tries to guess the plot and/or analyse the symbolism and themes of the OPs and EDs, both are good content to me, specially if it's with Dr. Sophie, so go ahead

Mina E.D

Yeh it's likely. Another reactor watched all the AOT intros before starting the series, and they obviously contain hints and stuff. But they didn't remember and it didn't impact their experience of the show or spoil anything for them.

Some op and ed can contain spoilers. You are very observant and you pick up on small details quite well when you pay attention. I have voted no but it surely would be interesting to see your reactions. I hope they do not overly spoil you though.

Adam

It depends on the specific case. Some series have egregious spoilers, some have no bearing on the plot whatever and are just neat. I don’t know

Gpinko

Really depends on personal preference on if you are bothered by spoilers! Some OP/EDs are more artistic/symbolic or just fun, and others have straight up scenes from the show. So maybe hints of scenes or new characters would be revealed early to you. If that doesn't bother you then I'd say sure watch before! I personally like to watch them and analyze what might be coming in the show, but i know some people want to get NO hints at all. Idk if you've watched the ones for the shows you have seen/are watching yet but those are good ones to look back on. AOT and FMAB especially.

I think doing it on a case-by-case basis would work best, some shows like HunterXHunter it wouldnt spoil too much. If you did that for AoT though, one of the endings straight up shows you most of Founder Ymir’s backstory a season before its revealed iirc

Torje Amundsen

I'd love a middle ground where you get a "safe" episode number from your community or someone you trust where you've passed anything that the opening would spoil!

Kelby Farley

Will you please also watch this?? It is the Hiroyuki Sawano / Project【emU】 "Attack on Titans" Suite. It is the live performance, from the guy who wrote the music and composed it, also the musicians and singers of the OST's in AOT. The legend himself, Hiroyuki Sawano, plays the piano in this. https://youtu.be/a6Fl1Xl1ogg?si=T2GZXy8JL8fvYksw

That sounds like a cool experiment! I'm definitely intrigued. It'll be like a super-powered anime prediction game. My only slight hesitation is that because you're so perceptive, you might figure out too much from the OP/ED and lessen the surprise when you actually watch the show. But, honestly, I'm really curious to see what you come up with. I think the potential for fun outweighs that risk. 😜 Maybe we can try it with a show you're less excited about initially, just to test the waters? Either way, I'm on board! I believe that the only show that would have been a definite NO is AoT (too risky).

Alma

Oh that's a fun idea! I think the way you'd interact with and analyse an op/ed from a show you have no context for is different from watching the op's/ed's from a show you're actually watching and have context for and you know the characters. I don't think it will be spoilery in the same way, especially if the op/ed is from a show that you won't be watching for a while - i think you'll probably be able to forget a lot by the time you actually get around to it.

Erjon Sejdijaj

This really depends on the show. Some series have really well put together OPs and EDs (think chainsaw man, or even Your Lie in April or something) where much can be said about the visuals/music without knowledge of the story. Yet some OPs (such as To Your Eternity) spoil major twists just blatantly and without any subtlety. I also always have to think of that one time the new One Piece OP spoiled something so severe it wasn't even revealed in the manga yet, and they just... showed it. So yeah, it's a case by case thing. Maybe you should ask your community when you start a new show to check if the OP is too spoiler heavy or not.

I am sadly cursed with an autistic brain that latches onto unimportant minutia like a steel bear trap, but can't remember the most important daily life details :D

Kyle Taggart

Wait did I recommend this?! Haha. For FMA, you HAVE to give us a reaction and ranking after you done the show! They are just so so good. I think I just said before I wish you watched them with the show - as it enhances the experience. As for other shows, I agree with others, case by case. Idk about the idea of watching ALL op’s Ed’s before you go into a show. It could be a funny video. But I think including them as you go - like ppl experience when they’re live and airing, is the best experience (just in my opinion.) For Frieren as an example, I was constantly curious about Serie bc I saw her. But all I knew was that she looked menacing and was an elf 🤷🏻‍♂️. But it added to my anticipation and wonder of what was to come.

Kyle Taggart

This is also a good idea. I swear there should be anime “experts” roladex us reactors can turn to for advice lol

DrSophieDarlingReacts

Haha! No no! Another Kyle on my Apothecary Diaries 1 x 1!! Yeah - it's a difficult call to make tbh!!

Shiffer

I never ever watch any openign or ending until the season is finished, they all full of spoilers

Karina

I think it depends on what you want. To me a lot of spoiler phobia regarding op/ed are overhyped - its spoilery because people somewhat know the source material and can relate to characters and events and can make assumptions based on those. But if you know absolutely nothing about the source material in any form, i don’t think 1:30 mins with blue hair dude and purple pigtails girl fighting dinosaurs in a forest or piloting mecha or delivering food and getting into wacky shenanigans would spoil you THAT much. 🤷‍♀️

Don Ratto

sounds fun for series you dont plan on touching at least for a while with some quick spoiler checks from the community! am i allowed to make a joke about when we are getting those AoT openings :P

KinsmokeWill

I think hearing you articulate just how reckless some of these showrunners are with spoiling plots would be informative and should translate to YouTube fairly well too! Edit: think I misread the options 😅. But yeah I'm in the 'don't spoil yourself' camp.

Link

I agree. I watched all the aot openings wayy before watching the show and most of the spoilers only made sense after I actually saw the show. I didn't feel like the story got spoiled at all. But I also didn't analyse them 😅😆

Link

Is there any way you could listen to the openings without watching what's happening in them when you watch a show? Or at least once per opening? I feel like so many anime actually get better through the music it starts with and it's so sad you're missing out on it!

Eva Lohanata

Yesss to this please. ❤️🔥

DrSophieDarlingReacts

I don't think that would be that interesting as I really wouldn't be able to say anything about the music alone other than 'oh that sounds cool' which would make it a really boring react :')

Link

yeah, I get that. I meant more like don't skip it once while reacting to the show itself so you get a feel for the music but I do respect your effort against spoilers!
