Maomao: *Starts putting together undeniable proof of Jinshi's identity* Also Maomao: Whelp time to compartmentalize this and pretend it doesn't exist for future me to deal with

I also love that we see Lahan (i think that's his name?) say the infamous "its just conjecture" before literally outing the place where maomao resides which is just so on brand for this clan!

(I just want to point out, these are all my thoughts at this point in the story from when I first read through the story.) In my honest opinion, I do not think Loulan/Shisui is pregnant. As you've mentioned, the constantly changing outfits dissuaded the emperor from having coitus with Loulan. This was likely exactly as planned by Loulan in order to avoid nightly visits. Additionally, if the emperor was to start having visits with her and her subs, he would have likely noticed that they were different people and instantly judged her for treason. Loulan taking abortifacients is likely a strong response to her mother and her desire to never become a mother like her. She can assure that goal by never becoming a mother. Additionally, we see Suirei's true colors. She's merely a pawn, a puppet manipulated by her father's evil wife and rightful heir to their family name. She may seem annoyed with Maomao, but it's clear she sees her as an innocent bystander. Her comment about not wanting to bring Maomao to the fort is part of the reason why I'm pretty positive that her kidnapping had nothing to do with their plans and more to do with making sure she couldn't say anything. 48:10 This whole episode is amazing, but I love this part when Luomen enters the room. It shows the love and respect that Lakan has for his uncle. Lakan won't take shit from anyone except for his daughter, his wife, and his uncle. (I had more written, but when the video playback froze, I forgot and refreshed. lol, my loss) And so, the plot train is now at full speed. With no slowing down, there's still more great story to come.

Maomao can be a blockhead sometimes. I wonder if she gives Jinshi high blood pressure.🤬

It didn't dissuade the Emperor from having sex with her - there's no indication of that. It was rather it felt like a different person every time he arrived which is merely the show hinting to us that not everything is as it seems - it's an act of foreshadowing but not a clear cut "dissuading him from sex". We know that the Emperor visited regularly because of her status and for their to be rumours regarding her being pregnant those visits would have to be nightly. In S1 we even see a nightly visit because it is dark and the room is lit by candles. They have definitely been intimate - not even Loulan could avoid that especially considering the length of time she's been there. Nor can the Emperor as it's as much his duty as it is Loulan's. Her position would be thrown into question if she was not intimate with him. It would be impossible for her to retain her high-ranking position. She likely did her duty and ensured that she would never have to have a child born from it that could be used and abused like she has been. I don't think we can categorically say she never slept with the Emperor. I'm not 100% sure she's pregnant or not but the eating of the plant and it's abortive capabilities are likely a way of ensuring she's not. A protective measure. The plant isn't sterilising. I'd maybe agree with your perspective if it could induce infertility but it can't. So it makes no sense to take it solely because she has no desire to become a mother like her own UNLESS she suspected that she could potentially be pregnant or is preventing pregnancy. Can't believe there's only 4 episodes left. Then I have to wait till OCTOBER :')

If Shishou and Lakan are 1 step behind the Emperor in the hierarchy, does it means Luomen is at the same height as the Emperor being above Lakan? 😂

We aren't told outright but based on the context clues the "honorable Shirou"/Shirou-sama, "Shi"rou is a member of the Shi-clan, Shishou's Clan and based on how Kyou-u is treated and that Suirei is showing deference to him like that he seems to be quite important. That would mean Kyou-u, Loulan and Suirei are likely actually related, not siblings but probably cousins of some sort or something along those lines.

This episode is PEAK! So much that has been building up from SEASON ONE happens in this episode. It's funny how different we view these intimidating characters from first impression to this episode (generally). Loulan, a cold, mysterious woman who never speaks and seems indifferent, is a complete 180 to Shisui, her personality. Suirei, the Moriarty to Maomao's Sherlock, is really just a pawn and victim of her clan's plans as well. And Lakan...well, majority of people's first impression of him was malicious, and well, he is such a protective Girl Dad, as we see. By the way, consider how BIG of a deal that moment is. In earlier episodes, Jinshi reminisced how Lakan, while yes he serves the emperor, "doesn't belong to any specific group". The fact that himself, his nephew, AND his uncle, their Clan, are all requesting help from the Moon Prince. That's huge. Also. I'm pretty sure everyone wants to strangle MaoMao at this point for gaslighting herself. MAOMAO!!

I loved your discussion about Loulan and Suirei’s characters!!! This is why you continue to be one of my favourite reactors. Not a lot of people really give them a lot of time and it makes me sad because they’re victims of their parents’ political game. Loulan’s monologue about being her mother’s puppet broke my heart. Loumen’s presence is always welcome and I love to see how much Lakan respects and love him too.

I did consider how big it was - I acknowledged it :') I feel like I was one of the VERY FEW that didn't instantly hate Lakan. He was so quirky that I was like 'hm this isn't the full truth' haha!

DrSophieDarlingReacts

It really upset me because she feels she cannot be anything other than what her mother wants her to be. She's so young and this is all she's ever known - how could she be anything but a product of her environment? :(

I didn’t uncover Lolan's identity on my own; I relied on your insights, haha! Looking back at this episode, I can’t help but wonder how shocked I would have been if I hadn’t followed your reactions. 🙀 I don’t regret my choice at all, as I truly adore following you on The Apothecary Diaries—perhaps even more than Attack on Titan! However, I do feel a slight bittersweetness about knowing the twist in advance. There’s something exhilarating about plot twists, especially when they catch us off guard and reveal how the author has deceived us. That said, I want to clarify that I’m not trying to make you feel sorry for me, Sophie! 🤗 I genuinely enjoy the buildup and your top tier analysis that comes with following along, rather than experiencing it all blind.

:') I sometimes hate how analytical my brain is sometimes because I do pick up on context clues quickly but I do always like how surprised I am at being right too haha!!

I love the interaction between Lakan and Luomen, it brings to my mind a memorable episode of Kitchen Nightmares, where the popular chef Gordon Ramsay displays a surprisingly gentle demeanor around his mother, speaking with shyness and thoughtfulness.🍽👱🏻‍♂️👵 While he is typically known for his tough demeanor and direct communication style, which can often come across as intimidating. In just a single exchange, it becomes evident how deeply Lakan respects his uncle, which explains why he has never sought to challenge Luomen's authority in reclaiming his daughter. This respect stems from the profound appreciation Lakan has for Luomen, who played a pivotal role in his upbringing.🫡

I devoured the light novels after season one and seeing the La clan ask the Moon Prince to raise the army was absolutely my most anticipated scene of the season. The light novels give more insight into Jinshi's thought process there too, it's so good! I really hope you do another video when you catch up with the light novels to talk about them.

I love to see your sweet fur baby looking so happy and healthy! He's sooo cuuute~! :3
