on the pronunciation of Giyu, it is more like an ee sound than a guy lol. To potentially help you in the future with pronunciation of any japanese name, the vowels are A E I U O, and they are ALWAYS pronounced the same way with the same single syllable unless paired next to itself making it longer. A = ahh- like you're opening for the dentist, E= eh- like eh it's alright, I= ee- like weee, U= oo- like ooh ahh, O= oh- like oh my goodness. This is applicable with any word in japanese and will help you pronounce names based off knowing these phonetics. Hopefully this was helpful and not difficult to understand, obviously no one expects you to learn the language for the show; but I'm sure you appreciate learning more

I won't of course confirm or deny whether it's appropriate to show empathy towards demons in Demon Slayer; that's a journey for you to explore on your own. However, reflecting on your thoughts about Fullmetal Alchemist, think as well about Himmel in Frieren. Given his gentle nature, Himmel showed in an episode mercy and kindness to a young demon girl, even in the face of Frieren's cautions. 🧝🏻‍♂️🫴🏻😈 Regrettably, his compassion resulted in sorrow when she ultimately took without remorse the life of an innocent child. 👧🏻🩸 His regret lingered as a strong reminder that kindness can sometimes bring about unforeseen consequences, especially in a world where danger often lurks just beneath the surface. This duality of empathy, which can act as both a strength and a weakness, presents complex dilemmas concerning the moral choices characters must make and the complexities of their relationships with those deemed enemies. Strength or future downfall? 🤷🏽‍♀️ Let's wait and see :)

She didn't kill a child after Himmel's compassion. That was the initial reason WHY he gave compassion. She killed the Village Chief so that she could give HIS child to the couple whose child she had killed to 'atone' for her actions. That was when Himmel's compassion fell to the wayside. Also very different show. It's not fair to compare the two and how they write demons until I see how Demon Slayer explores it more. I'm 2 episodes in so that's not enough of a space in which to make a comparative analysis. Which is why I didn't make the comparison. When I talked about FMAB - it's about the presentation of empathy as not being a weakness of character even though others may see it as such because it requires one to take a harder path. FMAB and Demon Slayer would be closer in themes due to featuring young male protagonists and being primarily aimed at a younger male audience. Not having empathy towards demons would mean not having empathy towards his own sister. That would not make sense. It's similar to Ed having empathy for those whose souls have been sealed when he visits the laboratory. He sees them as people because he sees his brother as a person. To not have that empathy would be hypocritical and go against his moral philosophy. It's less about demons being worth empathising with and more how it speaks to the character's moral code.

I appreciate it but I will likely not remember it especially in the heat of watching haha!

My memory is playing tricks on me; the little demon girl did indeed take the life of the village chief. I understand what you're saying now 👍

Tanjiro, Best Boy 💕 TIme to train and see what it takes to become a Demon Slayer

Leah Henderson

I thought the demon was dead when its body fell, too! They remind me of vampires a bit, the way the sun does them in like that... This show made me care about Tanjiro and Nezuko right away. Nezuko is so adorable!

Drai

He wasn’t just taking about his kindness. He never said kindness was a weakness. Just that his resolve weakens because of his kindness which could possibly lead to his downfall if he’s not careful. He has to learn to strengthen his resolve basically.

Demon Slayer is, in my humble opinion, one of the few animes that consistently spirals upward. There will be episodes that you think can't be beat, and then the next one comes along and blows it out of the water. Also, better lay in a supply of tissues while you can. I think you just may need them!😈

DrSophieDarlingReacts

I never said he was just talking about his kindness? Hence my whole discussion around the mountain test and becoming resolute in his choices.

WondrousMay

It’s so refreshing to hear actual discussion about the characters and the story! A lot of reactions are just focused on the flashy action scenes and it can get boring very fast. I’m really glad you’re enjoying this show!!

OnikeNew

Thanks for the reaction! I'm interested to see how you find this - philosophically and anime wise. Everything you've watched feels very different, and the trend continues. Great character analyses (even if light touch at this obviously early stage), and great hearing how you emotionally react to what each character's moral position appears to be. I'll admit demon slayer isn't my favourite but I do like it and have enjoyed the journey a lot! I look forward to seeing what your perspective adds to my own!

No you were acting like he was being harsh on Tanjiro just because he was being kind to the demon, then tried to call Urokodaki out for doing something kind

DrSophieDarlingReacts

Could I have perhaps misunderstood the point he was making? Maybe. But the emphasis on his empathy is highlighting how it could be an issue down the line. I discussed in the outro what Urokodaki was TEACHING HIM so I was hardly being harsh or condemning him. Maybe I'm misreading the tone of your message, it can be hard to perceive through written word, but it's coming across as quite abrasive for seemingly no reason. I understand if you are passionate about the show but there's no need to speak down to me because you disagree with something I said.

Drai

Ok

Ufotable is arguably the finest animation studio. And if anyone disagrees, you're wrong 🤣. They have certain distinct details while still being able to keep the style close to the original source material. And the animation smoothness is one thing they're known for, so any action sequences are a treat. I love seeing your take on this series, even if the anime is not one of my top favorites. I'd say it has the core of a typical shounen anime, with some additional things sprinkled in.

Tanjiro and Falco share the same voice actor actually. Two very wholesome boys in cruel worlds.

Your recollection of her analysis does not match her actual analysis.
