I think the old couple was just meant to representative of the citizenry in the capital and their perspective on what's happening. I think they mentioned in Bradley's origin that he was an orphan of some minor town in one of the many wars

The old people and other random citizens are just meant to showcase the viewpoint of the common people, who have NO IDEA all that's going on right now, besides what the Radio Show has broadcast. Kindof ominous given where we're at, and they have no clue what's coming. This show's emotional beats hit so good. Ling's voice in that scene with Fu, ugh, so much pain. To have all of this immense power and immortality, and yet, you are still ultimately powerless. Yeah, the doorway can also act as a tele-porter of sorts, like what Ed did to get out of greed's stomach, similar here, the sacrifices were brought to a specific location after going through and coming back from the doorway. I'm not going to pretend to understand the exact science behind that, but there are several ways to utilize human transmutation. So now that they're here with Father....NOW WHAT. Your reaction to Riza was PRICELESS, because SAME! And I guarantee this show has PLENTY of surprises left for you, no matter how in depth your theories have been. Buckle up things are about to get wild. Maybe keep tissues on hand haha.

I have watch this series about 20 times start to end and the feels come every single time, still it is one of the best comfort series to have if you end up going back it's going to be great every single time
