Minor point first we are in thorfinns long ponytail era, my personal favourite. What is your favorite thorfinn haircut ? Answers on a postcard. The fight is so tense and cool, it's something you mentioned how it's askeladd he sees, he spent more time with askeladd he heard him speak more he learned more from him also I think it's important that he sees askeladd before a moment of violence and thors is only in his dreams and discusses future things like going to vinland. The grimace he makes as raises his fists it must be so hard "I've got to hurt someone again " just after he's made his vow. Also thorfinn punched first, He didn't wait for snake to try some defense he swung on him first. I always found that interesting maybe it's a sometimes the curtains are just blue type deal and I'm reading too much into it but I think it's kinda significant 🤔

Thors 🗣: “You don’t have any enemies. No one has any enemies. There’s no one who it’s okay to hurt.” According to your insights, Dr Sophie, a true warrior isn't defined by seeking out enemies or conflicts to feed their ego. Instead, they are characterized by a consistent pursuit of spiritual growth. They only engage in battle when absolutely necessary for self-defense or to protect others and even then, they strive to do so without taking lives. Does that exactly defines though a true warrior? 👀 This is the central question the series poses, not just to Thorfinn, but to us, the audience. 📺👥️ The idea of someone who "doesn't need a sword" is compelling, but what does it truly mean? 🗡🙅🏼‍♂️ Is it someone who avoids fighting altogether? Or someone who fights but avoids causing harm? And is achieving such a state even possible? So far in the anime, Thors is presented as the character who has come closest to understanding what it means to be a true warrior. However, even he admitted to Askeladd that he was flawed, suggesting he hadn't fully realized this ideal. He himself believed with his imperfections that he was still on a journey to discover the true path of a warrior⚠️

Arnheid's voice actress sounded so distraught in that scene by the well that I couldn't help tearing up. And more than once I caught myself thinking how insane she must feel that this is even her life...that some men just came and claimed her as property, took her son, and ended her life as she knew it. It still sometimes shocks me that people can dehumanize other people so much. I agree that it makes more sense for Thorfinn to see Askeladd than his dad, but I was also pleasantly surprised by his cameo! I don't know if the old man is crawling out of the house to see what's up at the end, but that's what it looks like to me, and I always laugh! 🤣 I would be crawling out the door to see that fight as well, my man! 🍿 (Fun fact: I had to type all this a second time bc my cat got on my lap unexpectedly and the whole 1st comment somehow got erased! 😹)

+1000 You are pinpointing precisely why it hits so hard, the voice acting brings the profound, personal tragedy of Arnheid to life. I recently discovered that Mayumi Sako lends her voice to Arnheid. Her performance is commendable for expressing profound, hidden trauma and subtle despair. I wonder how the English dubbing is and if I would have been as emotionally invested haha. As you mentioned, the dehumanization that Arnheid endures is harsh to watch. 🥺🧻 The loss of her home🏠, her child🧒🏽, and her freedom🙇🏼‍♀️ truly sinks in, and is heartbreaking.

For what it's worth, it does seem like season 3 is only a matter of time, just a matter of a *lot* of time. From what we know, season 3 got internally greenlit soon after the end of season 2, but the studio didn't have any time available to give them for a production, especially since the licencor Twin Engine is apparently only interested in a continuation if the core team remains unchanged. You might know this, but season 2 basically got inherited from Wit studio, so Mappa only had to provide limited resources to see the production out. For the future though, a studio as big as Mappa will at all times have the next 10 years of productions lined up, with very little wiggle room. So it's just a matter of waiting for when the schedules of the Vinland team line up so they can start. The earliest has always been like 2027ish, although it realistically won't be until 2028... But it is happening! The staff has teased the season basically every opportunity they have had, especially the animation director. Just need to wait. A small note on the episode, but the music for the scene where Einar talks with Arnheid is called "Ahead of the Road." It's only been used in two places before in the entire series; once when Canute had his revelation in s1, and for Askeladd's death where he urged Thorfinn to get better. So yeah, a really significant track to place for any given scene. Gives a bit more weight to what Einar is saying, and the implications of it.

I think part of Askeladd's appearance is also that he isn't able to give any concrete answer. Had it have been Thors, he'd give Thorfinn something concrete to latch onto, but this way it remains Thorfinn's own reasoning and decision to make.

I am thinking of rewatching it dubbed after season 2 to find out! ^_^

I am a new sub and never have subscribed to a reactor before, mostly because what you contribute to the discussion of this story is so thorough. If season 3 doesn’t come soon I hope you consider maybe doing manga reactions to this series
