Adam

I wish we got a more concrete reason why Canute turned Thorfinn away. Does he expect an assassination attempt? Is he ashamed of his current actions, or his past self that only Thorfinn knows.

Dennis

My interpretation is that it’s because he’s unaware of the change thorfinn has gone through and assumed he would’ve been similar to the Thorfinn he knows. Their last interaction was Thorfinn trying to kill him and giving him the scar so his last impression of Thorfinn was that he was still a dangerous individual and didn’t want to see him.

I think its not even as deep as that. I think Canute probably just genuinely didnt think there was any point to talk to him, regardless. Thats how I took it at least. Perhaps because of him thinking Thorfinn would still be the same, or just in general because Canute has bigger things to deal with at that moment.

I am so proud of Olmar, too! I can't say I was surprised at Thorgil's lack of support... I have known more than one Thorgil type in real life 😑 I still cannot wait for Thorfinn to confront Canute! The anticipation is building!

Olmar saying that he did not have courage to silently accept mockery. And then later we see Thorfinn in between 100s of men being mocked for his appearance, and him just being unfazed and calm in front of them. Vinland is like poetry, it often rhymes.

👴🏻🎖 Man, Sverkel is KILLING IT this season! Seriously, he's one of my MVPs. He's dropping these amazing, deep thoughts and giving these super strong speeches. What I love is that he's so real and down-to-earth, just straight-up, wise stuff that hits you hard!

Dr Sophie: "Good Olmar, your life is more valuable than your pride." 🆚️ Thorgil: "Olmar, you did good. Your honor is more important than your life."  I don't see you two sharing a meal anytime soon.  🤣

Olmar "I didn't have the courage to silently accept their mockery." I don't know about you, Leah, but I absolutely adore that sentence that seems contradictory at first glance. Olmar finally gets it! He knew he wasn't strong enough to handle the mockery without blowing up. That's indeed a HUGE step for him! He's realizing he needs to work on his insecurities instead of just fighting everyone!

We the audience has witnessed Thorfinn's profound psychological shift through the Farm Arc, while Canute only remembers him as the angry introvert and assassin from their time with Askeladd. I can see why he isn't very eager to meet Thorfinn again who also scarred his face.

Leah Henderson

I agree, Michael! Quite a profound change for Olmar as he recognizes his faults, perceives true courage, and then acts accordingly without backing down. Oh, I hope he makes it through the warring and gets to settle down and build a nice family!

I know I'm late af, but man this episode changed so much of my life in one single dialogue. Olmar saying he didn't have the 'courage' to take the insults was just eye-opening to me. I mean, we live in a culture where it's so common to strike back when someone insults you, to the point it's almost normalised. "Are you just gonna stand there and take it? Are you not gonna be a man and go back at him?" Certainly if you're a man, despite the thousand years that have elapsed since Thorfinn's day, that is still very much the reality you grow up in and are molded by. So to have Olmar, this absolute snotnosed wimp of a character, to say that being calm in the face of insults is what shows true courage, it's almost liberating in a way. It's so easy to be the bigger man, all you have to do is literally nothing at all, and yet people still fall for it every day. Still people discredit season 2 of this show as being for 'pussies' and scold it for its lack of action, for the development Thorfinn goes through. I hope someday in the future, however many generations ahead, people will look back at our times and think "what cowards they were for taking everything so personally and lashing out." I know it won't ever happen, but such a world would surely be the most peaceful one out there. God I love this show. The next two episodes are gonna be so peak...

I expected Olmar to be the joke of the season when he first appeared in episode 2 (which he kinda was), but I never expected him to have such a great arc like he’s had !
