Aaaaaah we're finally here! The ending kicking in as we pan across Hohenheim's final smile never fails to get me right in the heart, even more than Edward's final transmutation. Greed's first and last lie is a close second.

Jobbe Smit

Stop shaming his proud nudist traditions, that man hasn't worn clothes in literal years :P

Jeffery Sit

Even when Truth spoke to the Father, it said there are 7 desires, not 7 deadly sins of a human. Thank you for your journey with FMAB🙏

Jobbe Smit

Yes this is hands down one of the best anime out there. Only downhill from here... Luckily that's quite a way down. Still quite a few classics to get to and new masterpieces coming out. Ghost in the Shell would not be amiss given your background and it's subject of transhumanism.

Sebas Tian

The image of Ed in kinda the same clothes as his father, having also the briefcase and everything, gets me everytime. What a nice journey. October 3rd Never forget

FMAB is one of my favourite animes and I re-watch it every 1-2 years. This time, I decided to follow along with you. It has been an incredible experience since episode 1: seeing your reactions and commentary, laughing and crying alongside you 💕

DrSophieDarlingReacts

In the end he accepted Hohenheim and that was enough to heal me and break me!!!

And now you know, that’s, what it takes to have a heart made, Fullmetal. 😎 thanks for letting us tag along on this masterpiece of a journey. Imagine being oh, 15? Watching something like this. Having to catch it week by week, and piece things together. Im referencing the 03 version. Then 6 years later, a new version comes out “FMAB”, and ppl are saying it’s better than 03?!? I was like there’s literally no way. Dive into the manga, there are other tid bits not in the anime, and please dive into 03 someday. Also, there’s movies, OVA’s. FMAB is a masteclass in pacing, characters that matter, deaths that matter, and a story - that stands the test of time. Beyond that, the animation is world class for 2009, the music is insane, it’s just all….perfect. Anyways, thanks again for letting us join in. Happy you liked it!

It was such a pit in my stomach when I first finished this series. What a journey. That credit scene with the photos gave me everything I could want. Fun little observation. When nervous about his proposal, Ed resorts to what he knows, alchemy - Winry resorts to what she knows as an engineer, maths.

Glad that you enjoyed it and to have watched your journey! (Fun fact you call it a "journey" several time and episode 64 is called "Journey's End") :) I had commented this previously, but this is one truly perfect ending IMO, there are so many different plotlines and characters and all of them wrap-up with an ending that leaves you satisfied Here's some stuff I always think is interesting about this ending if you'd be interested All of the Homunculus had poetic endings: - Lust (this the most iffy one) died at the hand of a man who felt nothing towards her - Gluttony got eaten - Envy was jealous of humans' ability to form bonds with each other, even when they were previously enemies. However, once someone finally did empathize with him, he couldn't handle it and killed himself. He never actually wanted what he envied humans for - Sloth died from overexertion - Wrath's death is ironic for several reasons. He possessed the Ultimate Eye and was an atheist, but he died because he was blinded by the end of the eclipse, which he interpreted as divine justice. Furthermore, he was killed by a man of faith who once was consumed by wrath and overcame it. Lan Fan showed up and could have avenged Fu, but didn't. And finally, Wrath dies in peace, happy with the life he led - Pride was defeated because he neglected his pride as a homunculus and tried to escape into a human body. He then diverted himself of his pride entirely and went on to live a humble life as a human - Greed died satisfied with what he had, and died because he gave up everything for his friends Then talking about Father, it's curious to see that at the end his Gateway of Truth, which symbolizes his knowledge, was completely blank. He had learnt nothing, while Ed's was intricately carved, symbolizing he had almost figured out the meaning of life, making even Truth admit that he had been beaten at his own game On fatherhood, I'm pretty sure the only time we see Ed cry in the entire series is when Hohenheim tells him he's sorry about what he's done and what they went through Something you in particular will like, there's a bonus chapter where Central sends Al his broken armor body, Al decided to honour it by melting it down for automail parts so it can still be helpful to those who need it rather than collecting dust in storage, with the exception of the helmet, which was stolen by their dog and is later found being used as a birds nest Anyways, it's kind of insane how much you predicted in this series, stuff most people only catch in their rewatches (specially that Ed was going to sacrifice his alchemy for Al's body). It's definitely a testament to how well the series is written, but they really don't be giving out those PhDs for nothing Also, there's a new anime from the same author coming out this year!

Thank you for reacting to my favourite anime it really is a perfect series. Im wondering can we get a character tier list like we did for AOT? Also can you please react to the bloopers? There is a 7 min video of bloopers that are from the english dub, on youtube thats really funny and its kind of a tradition to watch it after finishing the series :)

I think that the Dwarf's fate is pitiful and sad, but part of him does get to live on in Salem and experience humanity like he wanted!

Mei

Thank you so much for reacting to this! I really enjoyed listening to your reactions/analyses/theories throughout the show! Sometimes I wish you also got to see FMA 2003 because it's also good in it's own way, but it's already great that you've seen this one especially that it got to adapt till the manga's ending chapter. I hope you'll be able to continue reading the manga, too, because of the details the anime didn't adapt (and the extras are fun!). If you're interested to see more Hiromu Arakawa works, you could check out Silver Spoon. It's 2 seasons (22 eps in all) about a boy who got into an agricultural school. Totally different from FMA since it's a coming of age, slice of life series where you could see/feel inspirations from Arakawa's personal experience/knowledge growing up on a dairy farm (which is why she's an advocate of milk-drinking HAHAHA). Or Daemons of the Shadow Realm which is actually gonna air starting April 4th! It's also fantasy adventure but different from FMA.

It’d make sense had Sophie watched the Brotherhood Dubbed rather than Subbed.

Rip greed. You were a real one! I love that they gave a full episode to wrap up everything. I never even made the connection that Al and Ed were going off just like the two sages! I'm glad you jumped into FMAB. I knew you would enjoy it after watching you go through deathnote and attack on titan.

Wyld89

These are some fantastic insights!

So glad you loved this series! It's one of my absolute favorites of any genre/media, and it's so strong from start to finish. It was amusing watching you find the answer last video to what Ed would give up. You basically outlined all the details of the answer, approaching it closer and closer from different angles, approached the threshold, paused, and then you can see the moment where you suddenly cross that threshold and make the connection. And you were absolutely right! By the approach was fantastic content. And I never caught the idea that they've basically become the sages at the end!

I had a few theories/interpretations on Father/Homonculus: I think he wanted 2 things: 1) Unconsciously, as stated, he wanted a family and connections that humans have. He was dismissive of it in Xerxes, but his actions (as youve pointed out) reveal his desire for that. To this end, he created the homonculi and made himself a figure of worship and reverence. 2) Consciously, I think he wanted his version of "freedom," but that evolved from its origins. - My theory is that Father was made in the image of Truth by Xerxes alchemists (hence the physical similarities with the hands from beyond the doorway). I think this may have been similar to how Gluttony was a failed attempt at creating a doorway, that Dwarf in the Flask may have been a failed attempt at creating “Truth” to obtain knowledge of Immortality. Maybe he was even a “piece” of Truth and he returns to Truth in the end when he is pulled through the door? And that’s why he is able to share knowledge with King Xerxes that no one else had? - Despite being made in the image of god, he's been constantly restrained (dwarf in the flask) - He's always wanted to be "free" (Xerxes flashback when him and Hohenheim discuss what they want). He wants to be free of the bounds that confine him. Originally, that was the flask, but he always wanted more. To him, the rules of the universe set by Truth still confine him, even after escaping the flask - To achieve true "freedom," he must become god and escape all rules/laws that limit him, which is why obtaining an immortal, powerful body at the fall of Xerxes wasn’t enough

Wyld89

Alternatively, he has been nothing BUT clothes for years

DrSophieDarlingReacts

I agree with you - I see him as a part of Truth that was created in the experiments because Truth says 'now you return from where you came' and it's between the doors so I think he is a cast off much in the same way the homunculus are cast off from him. Hohenheim are blood brothers in more way than one. They both desire freedom. Hohenheim briefly has it before he's enslaved once more by the length of his lifespan and the burden of the souls inside him. The Father has a body but it's not a material one. Both start a journey to seek a way to obtain freedom. Hohenheim to stop the father and sever his own immortality. The Father to become this perfect being that cannot be tethered and contained like he was in the flask :') As much as this is a story of Ed and Al getting their bodies back - it's also a story of another two brothers striving for freedom and the different paths they go down = Hohenheim & the Father.

It was so much fun watching this for the first time with you! I was also bawling throughout 63 and then my cheeks hurt from smiling through 64! Such a fun anime and journey...I'm a little sad to see it end 🥲

DepressedSoggyWaffle

I’m a sub watcher and still get a good laugh out of it! To each their own though.

Lane Kyser

Didn't want to say anything during the episode 62 video, because spoilers, but it really took me by surprise that you predicted that Ed would sacrifice alchemy. I wondered at the time if you were spoiled on that by someone, but I've watched you a while now and I trust that you would be honest if you had. All that to say, now I can say well done! I think 99 percent of people think it it will be Hoenheim sacrificing himself, but you actually read that so well! I know you would get mean comments on YouTube on occasion, so this is absolutely something you can throw back at them lol.

Green Oak

One thing that always makes me not feel as bad for the Dwarf is that he never actually got rid of those sins. He just made homunculi with personalities fueled by them. A way to make himself feel free of those things by comparison. He was willing to even use his own kind as a tool for his own gain. He then goes on to demonstrate every single deadly sin in very grand ways multiple times after he claims to have shed them.

Rexus

No matter how many times I've rewatched this show, it always makes me tear up.
