I love this show so much. Cnute was always on this path because even if he wanted to achieve something good his premise was flawed. If you remember his talk with the priest he rejected unconditional love because what God wanted from him was too difficult something no human alive can achieve. So his morals was always dependent on circumstances. Notice too how perfect the themes of this show match with AOT? Everyone is a slave to something. But Thorfin as a slave is freer than a king.

The scene with pater at arnheids grave always gets me, he thought that he had to accept a culture of violence and slavery as just a way of life. but then he meets einar and thorifinn who are brave enough to actively reject that culture. And I know mappa is a busy with a lot of projects right now but can they please hurry up and give us some type of announcement or teaser of a season 3😂. As a manga reader I know how good the next arc is and I really want to see it animated, I guess we can only hope that this year we we’ll get some word about the status of season 3.

What a profound message this show carries.

And that's a wrap on the slave arc! Next episode is *technically* the first chapter of the third major arc, though it functions really well as a season ender in its own right. Anyway, what an episode, huh? A meeting about a single farm, yet it feels like the whole world is at stake. Yukimura said in an interview once that part of the reason he wrote Canute was to remind himself that not everyone thinks the way he does, and that there are multiple ways one can envision a world of peace. To get there in the way that he did, cracked open as it were by the naivety only Thorfinn could possess... It must be so weird from Canute's pov, surrounded by people eager to stab you in the back, you meet this ex-bodyguard for the first time in four years, the guy who gave you your scar, and after getting his ass thoroughly beaten, all he says is just "please don't take the farm." Who can blame the guy for laughing lol This was the final episode storyboarded by Atsushi Kobayashi, and way he played with light and dark here was absolutely extraordinary. It actually also features the only (that we know of) change from the manga explicitly requested by the author. See, that scene at Arnheid's grave originally took place immediately after her death, before the talk with Canute. However, Yukimura felt that upon reflection, Einar wouldn't be able to come to such a conclusion so soon after losing someone he loved. As such, he asked the director to place that scene at the end -- and the scene is all the more cathartic for it. One final thing, about Ketil specifically. I find it so funny how eager you are for him to finally get killed off, when the whole point of the show is that nobody deserves to get hurt, not even 'monsters' like him. We mustn't forget that despite his later actions, and despite his shoddy motivations, he actually still did a lot of good for his community. Thorfinn, Einar, and Pater wouldn't be free without him, and a lot of people's livelihoods existed because of his generosity; all of that is still real. He did awful things, and deserves consequences for it, which the show provides, but those consequences shouldn't be for him to get hurt in turn. He lost everything, his farm, his wealth... Yet the hope is that through it all, even he can grow to become a better person. Like Snake said, death would've been easy for him. This way, actually has to deal with what he did. Next up is the finale, hopefully not too long before season 3 gets announced... Who am I kidding, it's gonna be 2028 isn't it

JJK season 3 is about to end, and the vinland saga director was one of the producers for it, so maybe he's free now to do his own thing! ...though I'm probably just coping lmao

S2 of Vinland is just so good, I remember when you were deciding on what show to watch next and you were worried about it not doing strong numbers, but I am so glad you ended up watching it anyway. So few anime are as impactful as this one in my opinion, so I knew you'd love it. Fingers crossed S3 gets announced.

Dr Sophie (EP 21): « I wonder if Thorfinn is gonna be able to get through him. Like correct the course that is going on. I don’t know, l feel like it’s not too late for him. » Once again, your remarkable intuition didn't let you down. It's amazing how Canute's whole journey comes together. 🤴🏼☮️🗺 Basically, Canute was doing some messed up stuff, thinking he had to be a bad guy to make the world a better place. He was haunted by his dad's voice in his head, pushing him to be ruthless. Then, BAM! Thorfinn shows up, taking a beating (100 👊🏻) and refusing to fight back.🙅🏼 Canute sees this incredible act of selflessness and realizes, "Whoa, maybe I don't have to be a monster after all!" Seeing Thorfinn's pure heart gives Canute hope that people can actually be good. He lets go of all the fear and violence, and starts ruling with kindness instead. When he says "I feel good," it's like as you said a huge weight is lifted off his shoulders. He's finally free from the idea that he needs to be evil to do good. That episode is seriously A MASTERPIECE‼️ The dialogue, the visuals, the music – everything just clicks. It's definitely a 10/10 moment! I was thrilled for you to experience this incredible show, and I believe you can now truly grasp why your Patreon supporters were so eager and even impatient to see your reactions to Vinland Saga! Especially since you have personally studied the concept of masculinity and its pitfalls, this anime perfectly illustrates and questions some of these aspects in a world where pride takes precedence over everything else.

True but I think they are still in production on jjk s3 pt 2 so I hope they finish that asap and get to work on Vinland season 3

I know some people find Season 2 of Vinland Saga dull or boring because it doesn’t have lots of exciting, action-packed scenes. But honestly, that just shows why more seasons are important. It teaches an important lesson. For me, it’s one of the most meaningful experiences I’ve ever seen. Vinland Saga Season 2 asks a tough question that many action anime avoid: what happens after the fighting is over ❓️🤷‍♀️ As the battles slow down and the noise calms, the story shifts inward. It follows Thorfinn as he struggles with guilt, emptiness, and the consequences of his actions. This season—and the series as a whole—aren’t just about hype or adrenaline. They focus on patience, reflection, and choosing to break the cycle of hatred. If you stayed engaged without feeling bored, it means you understood the main message Vinland Saga wants to share. 🙏

When Canute says Thorfinn had grown eloquent and asks who he takes after, I think he was referring to Askeladd. Askeladd is who both Canute and Thorfinn learned from in how they use their words to other people. Thorfinn had just crossed his arms and cocked his head at Canute telling him to do better in a mildly condescending way which is insane to do to a king, very reminiscent of how Askeladd would act. Also we've never got Snake's backstory truly, but the pieces can be put together with all that we've seen of him. We know he was a warrior of Miklagard (Constantinople) and considering his skill level and the fact that he's reading a Latin Bible to Sverkel he was probably quite a high-ranking elite, potentially part of the Varangian Guard a personal guard of the emperor composed of viking mercenaries. He recounts that he screwed up and ended up on the run finding himself on Ketil's farm unable to use his name since he's wanted for crimes against the BYZANTINE EMPIRE, but he has so much respect and gratitude towards Thorfinn he actually tells him his name. It's all peak. Olmar's complete character arc, flipping the meaning of the 'Carve it' poem (which is recited in Old Norse), Einar and Thorfinn's relationship, Pater, Sverkel. 10/10.

🗣« Thorfinn, Einar, and Pater wouldn't be free without him, and a lot of people's livelihoods existed because of his generosity; all of that is still real. » Ketil thinks he's a good master because he doesn't whip his slaves or work them to death. But this "gentleness" is actually a deeper kind of cruelty; it tricks people into forgetting they own nothing at all. He believes that if he feeds his slaves well and treats them softly, he can wash away the violence of owning human beings. He offers bread but withholds IMMEDIATE freedom, turning food into a leash rather than a gift. His farm looks like proof that slavery can be humane. That's what makes it dangerous❗️ By making chains comfortable, he makes them durable (he participates in normalizing the system of slavery). Being less cruel isn't the same as being good; he's just serving oppression on a clean plate. The truth comes out the moment someone disobeys. When he beats Arnheid or prepares to kill to keep his "property," his mask drops. His kindness wasn't virtue, it was cheap insurance that only worked while everyone stayed quiet. Real goodness doesn't depend on absolute submission, nor does it anticipate anything in return. Ketil's just discovered that comfort makes better shackles than iron ever could.

Mickael Landry

I agree with the part about death and what you said. If Ketil dies now, he dies thinking he's a good man. He escapes ever understanding the damage he caused. Death would be too easy. 🤔 What Ketil really needs is time; years to slowly realize his hands were NEVER CLEAN. That his "kindness" was just control. That his happy family was built on stolen lives. True justice means he has to watch his lies crumble. He needs to live long enough to see Thorfinn and Einar walk free. To look at Arnheid's grave and know her suffering is his fault. To understand that his paradise was someone else's prison. If he dies, his victims never get to see him understand what he did. They never get that satisfaction. Ketil sees himself as a gentle father and master. So the worst punishment isn't death/execution, it's indeed survival‼️ He should grow old as a ruined man 🫵, knowing the world will remember him not as a good man and commendable father, but as a jailer who mistook his chains for affection.⛓️💔👎

Tbf, the current arc is not a single season split into two parts, the last episode is being marketed as the season finale, with the arc continuing in season 4. The director, Gosso, was also only contracted for up to episode 59, so it seems plausible a shift in the pipeline is expected for the continuation. So who knows, maybe they'll work on csm next and they free Yabuta up for vinland?

Torje Amundsen

If I ever get a tattoo, it might be "その出会いを私に刻め" "Carve that encounter into me" is such a beautiful ending to that poem.

DrSophieDarlingReacts

I'm aware that this is the point - I am merely venting my frustrations that he should live whilst Arnheid died. It's unfair.

Kiomi

This anime changed my perspective on life. “I have no enemies” is a truly powerful idea, especially when we feel that there is injustice and cruelty around us.
