I forgot you were doing this. I'm so excited

priscilla

I have been refreshing for at least an hour! It's finally here. So excited!

I find english voice acting very hard to listen to aswell. My first Language is German and the german dubs hardly ever cringe me out. I just dont like the way english va‘s are moaning at the end of every word 😐

And slowly.....she'll come to realize .... You can only do ... So much 🎵

I personally believe to watch anything in its original form. It just sounds better imo because the creation of that content was designed around the original voices to convey the kind of emotion that we as viewers are expected to receive. I've watched shows like Dark in its original language (German) and Netflix Lupin(French) and I enjoyed it as is in its own language.

While I generally recommend original form, there are exceptions in my view. My preference for subs or dubs depends on the anime. For dialogue-heavy shows like Death Note, I find the dub preferable. It allows me to focus on the visuals without being distracted by subtitles for a more immersive experience. In this specific anime for instance, I find also the English voice acting, particularly for L and Light, to be (clearly) superior to their Japanese counterparts. I notice less of Light's cocky and pretentious side in the original version.

Monster is widely regarded as a masterpiece or at the very least a great show because it moves beyond a simple thriller to become a profound exploration of human morality, ethics, and the nature of evil. The series, based on Naoki Urasawa's manga, forces viewers to confront uncomfortable questions about the worth of a life and the consequences of moral choices.  The title of the anime and the plot of the first episode are quite revealing, giving you a good starting point to form an idea and will for sure spark interesting (or intense 😅) discussions. This anime is excellent for you and your audience. ✌️

Imo I prefer dub because for me the humor and emotional moments just land better in English because that is the I language I speak. And sub is fine too, it just annoys me that alot of purist will make fun of dub when they don’t even watch it. And I feel like a lot of people may be missing great performances from English vas because they have negative connotations about dubbed anime. The reality is that the majority of dubbed anime is really good and that wether you like sub or dub better is all a matter of preference.

As long as you at least give both versions a try it’s fine. You should pick whichever one will give you a better experience watching it. A lot of reactors would just immediately disregard the dub and immediately pick sub, I like that you actually give the dub a chance before you make your decision. Also I know you’ve talked about potentially watching violent evergarden in the future, if you do I would definitely heavily consider watching the dub. The main character has a unique personality that I think comes across better in English than Japanese.

This is the type of top tier anime that made me fall head over heels in love with the genre when I first encountered it.

I am so happy that you chose to watch Monster. It's one of the stories that's very dear to me and I am excited to experience this all over again with you. Loved the post episode discussion <3

My first language isn't English and I still cringe at dub. I'm not sure if it's just a few of us, but I'm with you on the "there's more emotion in Japanese" train.

"let me kind of ease myself in, I'll watch AOT..." dang sis, what were people telling you AOT was about lol 🤣

Bumbeau

I've only seen the first 5 or 6 episodes of Monster and even that is enough is enough to have me excited to see you react to it. It's some of the best of anime. I have no doubt in that.

I feel subs to be of better quality in general, because the whole production line in Japan is in sync with each other. The voice actors record their lines in somewhat crudely animated scenes. This is why we rarely see the mouth movements of characters actually be out of sync when VAs speak. In cases of dubs, studios need to craft lines specifically to match the animated lips in anime, which they sometimes cannot manage. Personally, it pulls me out of the viewing experience as I tend to notice such irregularities. Then, being a voice actor is a legit career in Japan. And competition for these roles is extremely intense. This is why we see so much variety in pitch and tonal differences. Some of the top VAs can have roles in over 200 anime throughout their careers. In Western countries, studios simply hire Hollywood actors to provide voice acting for animated movies. There is nothing wrong with that; it simply means that the pipeline to hone skills as a voice actor is rather small in the West. But surely there are English dubs that can be on par with subs, or even better. FMAB and the Dragon Ball series have really amazing quality dubs and VAs.

I finished this show early this year and I can guarantee that you love it! This is only just the beginning. You’re in for a rollercoaster ride of emotions! This might be unbelievable right now but Eva is one of my favourite characters from this show so I’m excited for you to see more of her character.

Cannot stress enough how hyped i am for this

Yes! I just wanted to comment quickly too about how the VA industry is mature in Japan. Things have been changing some as more VAs record remotely these days, but it's much more common for VAs to actually record at the same time and be able to play off of each other in Japan. In the US, it's common to record separately, except for bigger productions (Disney dubs, big American original shows, etc). That makes a huge difference, IMO, to connecting to their characters and drawing out emotions! And, in both the US and Japan, prolific dub actors can be a different crew than those doing original voiceover, which can contribute to many dubs feeling "samey". They might be picked for their professionalism and reliability as a priority, instead of more artistic/aesthetic character casting for originals. All that said, sometimes everything lines up just right to produce dubs of fantastic quality too!

I love the vibe of Monster. Its the only anime ive watched that doesnt feel like an anime. It would have been just as good done in live action as it is in anime form

Sebas Tian

This is very interesting. Its the first time ever I am watching an anime at the same time as they reactor. It feels like i'm reviewing it and theorizing with you in the room lmao

I found your channel today, and I'm enjoying your reactions : ) However, I would recommend pausing if you talk for an extended time. Just so you have much less possibility of missing something. Since I noticed you'll sometimes still be discussing a topic that happened several mins ago, while a completely new event is happening in current time.

And yet I never miss anything :) The community is more than used to this and there's never been issues with following the story or the depth. I appreciate the concern but trust - welcome to how I react haha! :')
