So hyped you're doing this. This is what kicked of my obsession with anime I read the manga as soon as the season finished I saw the film in the cinema and cried, so in short the series means alot to me. I like how you empathise with denji, he does just want the bare minimum live a normal life die a normal death. I'm holding back.. I'm seriously holding back caus3 you're on episode 1 and there's stuff I can't mention tgis early, but the lady at the end............. the "hug me" line, I took that as he thinks he's dying and he wants to be with a girl before he dies so he asks for a hug and gets breakfast instead. Enjoy the rest of peak imo. I gotta keep going the fan boy in me is boy satiated. the fight is everything, messy and brutal the sound track. That song playing is called edge of chainsaw and it's such a banger . Also pre warning, I'm gonna be this insufferably hyped on the JJK videos too. 😆

interested to see how you like the op, s1 is just so cinematic and cool man, i know some people prefer the movie art style for being more visually simple like the manga but i think this really work quite well

On the topic of animation, S1 actually had a lot of flak because it wasn't all hand drawn and how it was stylized. There's a lot of CGI usage for the chains and action sequences that animation fans cried about, the same thing happened in S4 of AoT, and if you're anything like me it's something that you cant even tell. Then with the art style direction there's was a lot of western cinematic influence that manga fans did not like at all so much so that they changed directors and art style for the movie and upcoming S2. The discourse was so loud that I thought it'd be some drastic change but to me it was just a slight switch up of vibes more than anything and everything still looked mostly the same. Brilliant show, fantastic story, well written characters, beautiful both in s1 and the movie can't wait to hear your thoughts on it all.

No matter how many times I read/watch this part, I always tear up. Denji is just a boy 😭😭😭 Some years ago I went into part 1 of the manga completely blind and I had a blast coming up with theories and analyzing the story. So I’m very excited for your CSM journey and see what theories and commentary you’ll have ☺️

Funny, when I first watched this episode I hated it. I spent a year before giving episode two another shot, and then fell in love with this season. Denji's debt is crazy, 38 million yen is like 200k USD, almost as crazy as some student loans in America lol

I still remember before I watched chainsaw man I thought “what a dumb name” but when I watched it I ended up loving it, and ended up reading all of the manga, and even saw the move twice in theaters this past October. Also I love how different Denjis goals are compared to most avg shonen anime/manga mc, usually they have really have big aspirations about changing the world or saving people, but I love that Denjis goals are just him wanting to have a normal life, because he was never able to have things that would be considered the bare minimum to most people.

so happy that you are finally watching a show with music done by kensuke ushio my favourite anime composer! his work in this episode alone changes between a floaty dreamlike sound and intense action music in a way that is so distinctly him. he did the music for my personally favourite show ping pong the animation :)

And so the insanity begins... Fun fact, this show is the only show by Mappa that is entirely self funded, without any publisher or board to report to, entire self made. In many ways it's the studio's lovechild lol. Also, currently there's a first season and a movie, with the second season already having been announced. It'll probably air somewhere next year? It's all peak though, and it only gets better as it goes along.
