It's very rare that I ever ask myself this question but it's also rare for me to watch something and be EXTREMELY critical and not overly enjoy it. I've been sitting on the topic the last few days and thought I'd leave it to Patreon to decide!

I've read the book (which I loved) so I'm conscious that I sound somewhat like an arrogant prick with how often I refer to things being changed :') BUT there are aspects that I really just didn't enjoy because the impact was lacking due to how much was removed which changes the context and character development.

I do delve into it in my outro but yeah - I don't think it's the best react because I wasn't really enjoying the movie as much as I thought I would

BUT

I also have to remember that my reacts are based on authenticity and genuine reflections so even if I think I come across arrogant - it might still be enjoyable to those looking for WHY I didn't enjoy it.

SHOULD I POST IT?!

Yup, post it. ❤️😊 Even if you are critical of it, it's better to have a reaction that feels genuine instead of force liking or force hating something and posting it to cater for views. There's films I've watched that are well liked but I hate on, or those that are hated but I liked, and when I go to my film clubs we talk about that and those feelings because it's more interesting to see varied reactions we feel, instead of the shit "it's Oscar wank and as a film enjoyer I have to like it so here's a uninspired review of it" or "everyone told me this film is shit so I will just blindly follow what they say and also say it's shit" 😆

Shopie going full-on hater mode let's gooo 🔥, and I'm totally here for it ✋ 🗿🤚

I had the same reaction when I watched it in the cinema years ago. Favourite book as a kid and super disappointed by the new movie. I would still be interested to see your reaction though I think, even if it's just to 'complain together' 😅

Chris Ridenour

A lot of reactors will watch things and fake their reactions, everything they watch is amazing and the best thing ever! 🙄 It's better to just be authentic IMO.

Victoria_Night

Sure, why not? Since it exist, might as well post it

Jay Mistry

Yes. I’d also suggest posting it after you’ve also watched Chapter 2, as it’ll make for an interesting (complete) review.

DrSophieDarlingReacts

I did enjoy parts but overall I was like "this just makes me want to read the book again" hahaha

DrSophieDarlingReacts

Yeah there's a lot of changes that I think completely detract from the important context of Derry and why IT is based there!

OH yes, please post it, as a big fan of the novel I wanna hear what you have to say, it goes without saying your commentary in all shows is exceptional and intelligent in your channel. The ending to Chapter 2 pissed me off. Please react to it as well for our pleasure of you ripping it apart and what a missed opportunity both movies were to bring about a lot of what made the book great. Both chapters are competent, decent movies on their own, and I do enjoy them for what they are, and there are good things in it, even great, but I also hate them for missing the mark and the point, but damn were some of the thematic changes in these movies unnecessary and it all made the story lesser, inferior , and just common and not exceptional, for no reason at all. In the end the movies were pandering, formulaic, and catering to the insipid tendency to placate and appease the masses. The movies in the end become unctuous and saccharine tripe compared to the heartbreaking melancholy of friendship and childhood and adulthood in the books. The television mini-series of the early 90's. gets it better than the movies, even if they also drop the ball on some critical points..

DrSophieDarlingReacts

I definitely will be watching Part 2 but my hopes are VERY LOW haha!! Yeah a lot of my criticism revolves around thematic changes that lessen the impact and significance!!

hman70

Man bummer, I loved the book and loved the movie enough to see it like 5 or 6 times in theaters. That said people are here for your honest reactions, I don’t think you should keep that content under wraps just because you didnt like the movie. Maybe it’s worth a small disclaimer or something if you think it’s necessary to avoid disappointing or upsetting people but that’s as far as I think you’d have to go.

DrSophieDarlingReacts

I did enjoy aspects! There's just a lot of choices that I think weren't wise in the long run as they remove a lot of context but I do explain my thoughts!! :')

Sometimes it is tough to have an opposing opinion to the majority, especiallly since you directly have to face the internet's comments! I personally agree with you though, I didn't love IT so it is nice to hear someone else echo that opinion, so you should post it so you didn't waste your time reacting to it, as long as you can brave less than charitable Youtube comments hah

domi

I actually really enjoy destroying the movies for books I've read lol (whether I enjoyed them or not), so I would love a video like that

domi

Also, you shouldn't have to censor yourself bc some people can't accept criticism of the things they like, especially if it's with a reasonable argument

delle

If the question were coming from someone who I thought might spend the entire time being pointlessly negative, my answer would be different; but it's coming from you, so I vote post it! I'm curious to hear your criticisms, especially compared to the book, because I know your comments will be well-thought out and far from empty bashing. As others have said though some people might struggle to hear (valid) criticisms of a piece of media they like and the comment section might be a bit nastier than normal. I want to hope people will be better than that, but it is something to consider if you think you might not be in the right mental space to deal with it.

Krul

I always enjoy listening to your analysis, so I'm glad you are giving your honest opinion. it should still be very instructive to hear your criticism, so please share!

You're gonna catch a lot of flak from the fans for it, that's certainly a cost I think? On the other hand you already watched it. I like the suggestion of Jay to combine it with Chapter 2 if you're open to watching it.

DrSophieDarlingReacts

Not really a cost tbh. I pride myself on authenticity so if people are annoyed at me expressing an opinion on something they enjoy then that's more a them problem than a me problem. Media is meant to be discussed, enjoyed, and critiqued. It wouldn't be genuine for me to lie and say the film was good when I felt it was lacking in areas based on reading the source material. This is the first time I've watched something where I was a lot more critical on not liking it as much as I had hoped so it's a new one for me whether people would want to see that or do I just scrap anything where there's more a negative reaction. It's just interesting to gauge an opinion! If anything it invites discussion :) I won't be combining as the First Chapter is nearly 3 hours. I will watch Chapter 2 but it'll be a separate upload.
