THAT WAS A FOUL CLIFFHANGER!!

Hi Sophie! The word Tanjiro uses against Rui is nisemono (偽者) and can be translated as "false, fake, counterfeit, artificial version, copy", so you're absolutely right about your interpretation. And you're right, Rui absolutely reacts the same as Muzan did! Also, the relationship between Inosuke and his mom always brings me to tears. Oh, and Zenitsu calls the sparrow Chuntaro but his name is Ukogi! It's not mentionned in the anime, but yes, he's the one guiding Shinobu to Zenitsu. The mangaka did a really cute doodle of the scene as a bonus! Great reaction once again <3

Forged is probably meant as a forgery. I think fake is a better translation.

Carlo Marasigan

That's it. Tanjiro is dead. Series over! 😅 BTW, next episode I challenge you not to cry.

Wyld89

It's an interesting translation in English, because "forged" can mean built up in a positive way, or a false creation (as in forgery)

Dont forget about Tanjiro/Nezuko's bond with Urukodaki when it comes to family bonds that aren't blood related!

Anna Kyruin

Echoing what others were saying, by forged he means in the way one would forge a signature on a document, not as one would forge a sword. That cliffhanger is brutal indeed.

Caroline O.

Yes, it's interesting that the translator choosed "forged" rather than one with a more obvious negative meaning, like conterfeit! Maybe they liked the imagery "forged" brings, especially in an anime where katanas are so important!

Hi, I really loved all your insight and commentary on this episode!! And I can totally relate to your questions about Inosuke, I remember wondering the same things on my first watch Xdd Unfortunately, the anime never really explains it, probably because it’s not all that important to the main storyline, but there is a short side story that touches on how he learned to speak :)) It’s only around six pages long, but I think it gives some insight into why Inosuke generally speaks in such aggressive manner all the time, plus it has a lot of fun baby boar moments! I’d definitely recommend checking it out, since it doesn’t contain any real spoilers and just expands a little on his character. Or if you’re planning to read the manga in the future, it’s something to look forward to! 🤍🐗

OMG!! I had to replay that cliffhanger scene twice. Your reaction made me laugh so hard I missed half of it.🤣

You will learn more about Inosuke backstory in due course 🙂

Yeah, I have a lot of gripes with the way crunchy translated (or decided not to) DS, like maintaining Hashira or the Hi no Kami

DrSophieDarlingReacts

Yeah it's just an interesting choice to use it in the context of 'forging bonds' which means it's interpreted akin to weaponry or strong ties rather than a forged document. Especially as we're looking at blood ties that are formed through hard work, love, and empathy which is akin to the blood, sweat, and tears in forging a weapon. I definitely think they could have used a different word in the translation to get across the meaning in a more concise way.

DrSophieDarlingReacts

Agreed! It's an interesting word to use. I definitely think there's better words they could have used in the translation rather than forged as forged in the context that Tanjiro is speaking would be in relation to the forging of ties which would have a more positive connotation rather than a negative. Just like a sword being forged - family ties are built through care, love, blood, sweat and tears! Where as forged for a document wouldn't really work within the context of their conversation. I get where they were going with it but it's quite clunky. It's not the word I would have selected if translating for an English audience.

Zenitsu calls his sparrow Chuntaro (because of the "chun chun" sound it makes) but its real name is Ukogi. Its favorite food are rice balls with ukogi leaves in them (mentioned in the taisho secret)

I’m calling it right now: learning more of Inosuke’s backstory will make you cry.

I will say, though. The one thing I don't like about this show is how often the characters are just pushing their bodies past their limits and don't have proper rest most of the time. I've been doing that the last month and a half, and let me tell you, it is NOT good. I got sick yesterday and had to leave in the middle of my 24h shift (in reality it's more like a 28-30 hour shift, but my point stands). I woke up so sick this morning that I slept in until noon. I HAD FALLEN ASLEEP AT 10 THE PREVIOUS NIGHT.

Mate... It's impossible not to... Show me anyone who can !! If they don't cry they aren't humans!
