Urasawa is truly a master at crafting characters

As to Johann being evil the show will definitely get into that. In many top 10 villains list Johann is often on that list because of how complex he is.

Ohhhhhh, your discussion is heading in an interesting direction!!! Won’t say much in case I accidentally spoil you but the concept you talked about will definitely be explored! If you don’t mind me asking: do you think the Fortners had other intentions for adopting both Anna and Johan? In the previous reaction, you said they might be replacing their deceased daughter with Anna but now that it’s revealed that both twins were adopted, could they be manipulated by Johan?

I knew it was him lmao

Oh I think Johan manipulated the situation but I think their biggest draw was how Anna looks like their deceased daughter. Johan maybe referenced that but I think if they took him in it was solely because they wanted Anna and likely thought of him as an afterthought. That they have to take him because he's her twin but their focus is solely on Anna

I truly appreciate your insightful observations. You've brought to light a crucial point that elevates Monster beyond a simple thriller, inviting us to reflect deeply on the very nature of evil❗️ The central question of whether Johan is inherently evil or a product of his environment is already explored so masterfully after only 6 episodes, and I find your perspective on this theme both compelling and thought-provoking. I personally resonate with your struggle against the idea of 'pure evil' and the notion of someone being born a 'devil.' It feels far more genuine and human to consider Johan as a broken child, shaped irrevocably by a profoundly traumatic upbringing. I especially value your emphasis on the importance of his childhood experiences. Understanding the circumstances (if that's the case 🤷‍♂️) that led Johan down such a dark path seems essential; it wouldn't excuse his horrific actions, but it would likely adds layers of depth and complexity to his character. It forces us to confront uncomfortable truths about human potential and the factors that shape us. Your focus on nurture and its impact is not only valid but also I think vital in analyzing Johan's character and exploring the capacity for both good and evil within us all. Thank you for sharing your insightful thoughts and great reaction overall. 👏
