So my comment on the previous episode was actually meant for this one

Charlie baker

Rip himeno, hurts just the same everytime

Dillon leeming

So himenos story is tragic, a traumatised woman who's found something to cling too in aki she could have something. Obviously bringing home a 16 year old isn't good. But I don't think she's a predator she seems to know what she did was bad is relieved when she finds out she didn't do anything. She's one of my favourite characters still to this day despite having so little time in both the manga and anime. Makima getting shot always gets a great reaction and this was no exception. We're ready for episode 9

DrSophieDarlingReacts

Hence why I said her actions are predatory but she held herself accountable and better than nothing! :)

Lol when I heard you were going to watch CSM this was the first episode I thought of because I knew that the beginning of this EP would feel like watching a horror movie to you. What I thought was going to happen in this episode *Makima gets shot* *Sophie does Sukuna smile 😏* Lol I'm kidding

hman70

Chainsaw Pacing, man! In weekly chapter release it was like one week's cliffhanger is Makima gets the blickey. Next week the whole squad gets shot. Next week ends on the double page spread of Aki looking like he's getting cut in half. Next week Himeno sacrifice. Like you said at a certain point you just feel like you have to give up guessing what'll happen next to stay sane lmao & I love how in a life or death situation here there's no time spent on buildup or exposition, everyone immediately uses their most powerful move or tool and it plays out like a wild west shootout. Was counting the weeks down to this epsiode since you started the series and you didn't disappoint! tomorrow should be fun too :D

Shit really hits the fan this episode, when I first watched this I remember being so surprised himeno died, especially after the conversation she had with Denji it felt like she was going to be around more in the story. But that’s chainsaw man, it really is so unpredictable and chaotic that anything can happen.

Dr Sophie: "WTF OMG OMG NO..." I must say, your heartfelt panic reaction when Aki was on the verge of being killed was truly lovely hahaha. This is why I appreciate those animes where everyone's on the chopping block except the main character due to plot armor. It's a total nail-biter, right? Keeps you glued with wide-eyed to the screen! 📺👀 And guys, poor Himeno 😭 It's so tough seeing her totally crushing on Aki, but he's just stuck on Makima.... Talk about unrequited love hitting hard! You just want to yell, "Hello, Aki! Look over here!" 🙎🏻‍♂️🙋🏻‍♀️ But nope, she's in her own little world of heartbreak. It's kinda sad how Aki starts off so zoned out, all consumed by his Makima obsession. But you do see him eventually warming up to Himeno in the previous episodes, like, "Okay, this friend is actually pretty awesome." But even that tiny bit of good news is, like, tainted because she ends up sacrificing herself for him. 💔 And then Aki's left to deal with the fact that someone who really cared about him is gone. It's just a brutal reminder that sometimes love is so one-sided, one person is completely wrecked while the other is still kinda oblivious. Ugh, anime can be so intense sometimes!

Mickael Landry

Oh I forgot! RIP Makima, she was not my cup of tea but what a brutal death.

I've seen plenty of peopel blame himeno and rightfully so But I don't think many other viewers wonder what the other adults are doind and honestly thats actually a good question like if you know himeno and you were at the meetup you probably should've checkd up on that at hte very least aki should have gone after them and while it's always hte perpetrators fault, I would still count that as a failure in his responsibilities like literally part of his job is taking care of an underage kid he took wiht him to a night out, he knows himeno very well, he knows she gets weird when drunk, denji should be with him, checking wehre he is would have been part of his job, at the very very very very least he should've called up and asked what's going on also the age differnecei s stil lfar worse than the puke like yeah tahts disgusting but also just awkward, if that happened betwene people of the smae age it would sorta suck but also be kinda funny in hindsight but with tha age difference no matter what its always gonna be wrong

HAL

"so we heard you didn't like makima so we thought we'd do something about that..."

Szaleos

33:00 he did say he only drank tea when Himeno asked. He probably got drunk from Himeno’s puke

the thing is with a normal person yes is fucked up to have se. with a minor, but in denji case i think making him work a job that could lead to his death is far worse hahaha that sex with consent even if legaly is not at that age, i mean they don't give him all the other more important rights, i don't feel so weirded out because in Italy age of consent is 16 so it's still weid, but if you are early 20 there are couple with 21-16/17, so what i mean to say that maybe cause of my culture i don't find it extra weird unless with a over 25 person, cause to be fair, when someone is 16/17 in body most of the time they are 90% mature, and i don't consider it pedo, in Himeno case i think was a drinking error, and she was depressed cause of watching aki with makima

DrSophieDarlingReacts

But they aren't though. You aren't mature until you are legally classified as an adult which is 18. The age of consent is also 16 in the UK but there are many of us that agree that it should be raised to 18. No adult should be having sex with a minor whether they're legal to consent or not. It's disgusting. Himeno was predatory in her actions. If they aren't legal to buy alcohol then no adult should be going anywhere near them. I've also spoken on this numerous times that Denji is preyed upon both sexually and in the job he's been coerced to do. Both of them are horrendous but doesn't make one or the other okay. Denji is a child. Adults should not be trying to engage with him sexually because they should know better.

Cristian Bengasi

I agree with most of the things, but I don‘t put what himeno did in the same plain as all the other shit that public Service is forcing on denji. It’s not okay either way but it was clearly a night mistake that when she thought about it lucidly she admit, I say this because many people (not you) categorised himeno as a character only based on a mistake calling her pedophile. But I think that someone has pedophile tendencies only if is attracted to pre puberty, this is just wrong from a Moral view Point in my opinion, cause probably won‘t cause Trauma in denji but you as an adult know that his agreement to Sex is due to hormones, and in the Future he could regret it. I agree that they should put it legaly over 18 too, it was a mistake , don’t think himeno is a predator, but you should pay if you make mistakes. There is a disgusting streamer in italy, 40 year old man that does Irl and pick up Young girls in Club and sometimes even 16 year old appeard in the Video Kissing him, and of course in Italy ligally he got away with it because the Girl gave consent to filming, and his fanbase are all boys under 18 that call him God, it’s very disgusting person. Sorry for taking it so long

"it feels like a fever dream"

FriendLee

It's refreshing to see someone understand the nuance of Himeno instead of just writing her off as a pedophile. She's A LOT of problematic things, but her actions with Denji, gross and bad as they are, had nothing to do with him as a person, and stem entirely from her drunken jealously over Aki's obsession with Makima. This series does an incredible job at humanizing problematic characters without justifying their problematic actions. In just the few chapters/episodes we have with her, we learn the depth of this traumatized girl who buries all of that pain under a laundry list of vices and a carefree attitude. Fujimoto does a wonderful job with character writing overall, and I think Himeno is a shining example of that for her limited time in the series.

DrSophieDarlingReacts

I was disappointed in the predatory aspect and considering I call out Makima - I can't let Himeno slide even if I love her as a character. She fucked up but her recognition of how she fucked up was redeemable in my eyes. What annoyed me more was how every adult, including Aki, just allowed a very DRUNK Himeno to take home a minor and didn't think to check on Denji and maybe intervene! Like guys come on!! :')

FriendLee

Oh certainly not letting her slide! But I also don't think I would put her and Makima in the same league, even if both of their actions are inherently predatory. As you said, Himeno showed recognition of how bad her actions were once she was sober, whereas Makima.... well all my homies hate Makima so you get it. As far as your commentary on the adults, you're definitely not wrong, but I think that's a larger commentary on the cruelty of the world that they inhabit, and the moral failings that seem to "come with the job" of Devil Hunter. Like, let's not forget that prior to the dinner, Aki and Himeno were just casually chatting about how half of their crew tried to murder Denji as though it was just water cooler conversation.

blorbothefrog

I know I am WAY way late on this but I gotta comment on this one. I really genuinely respect how seriously you take this topic - it is shockingly common for a lot of reactors (even the ones who agree it's not a good situation) to kind of go 'oh thats weird' and move on, but I really appreciate that you're genuinely commenting on the dynamics going on with himeno and denji. it is frighteningly normalised to have sexualisation in underage characters in anime to the point its kind of a joke in the community that its gonna happen, so when this show came out I was so SO glad that they take it seriously and comment on the inappropriateness of it. chainsaw man if nothing else is a show all about denji learning what it means to respect himself and learning what he actually wants, and this is an important chapter in that story. I really love how much focus the show puts on how uncomfortable it is, even if it is unpleasant to sit in that discomfort. it doesnt turn it into a joke, it ruminates in that uncomfy feeling and forces you to confront it, where so many lesser shows would (and do!) play it off as a joke or even desirable. complete seriousness: thank you for taking this topic seriously

DrSophieDarlingReacts

Thank you so much for saying this! I got so much backlash on YouTube but I know in my heart the conversation was important and needed to be taken seriously so I didn't care haha!
