Hello Sophie! Once again, a wonderful reaction. You are so full of empathy, it's a pleasure to follow your journey with Demon Slayer. Rui and his family are such a tragedy. When you think about it, his parents could have chose to reincarnate without him, but instead, they waited decades, perhaps a hundred of years to be with him when he'll die and to go to hell with him so that they could be reincarnetad together. Also, to be fair to Giyuu, he can't smell emotions like Tanjiro does. He can't know what demons feel when they're dying. All he knows is that they keep killing and eating humans. After years of seeing that, it's understandable that he can't find empathy for them. And a little fun fact, the mangaka did a little doodle about Shinobu and Giyuu where they explain that she thought he was in danger! They say "I hear that Shinobu-san thinks that Giyuu is an hairhead klutz. There are demons in front of him and he's spacing out, so she wanted to save him. It seems like she got angry because he got in the way." Can't wait for the next reaction <3

Shinobu is my all time favourite character! Im so excited for you to see more of her and the butterfly sisters!!! 🦋

One of my favourite episodes. Rui's backstory is one of the most heartbreaking in Demon Slayer lore imo, but so glad he reconciled with his parents in after life who never stopped loving him all this time . How cute is smol Nezuko? 😄

I've only seen the "we'll be in hell together" type of bond between lovers or besties so far(in anime). But it hits different seeing it between two parents and their child. I can feel how comforting that would be for Rui.

Rui reunites with his parents, cue the waterworks!😭 Better hold on to that crying towel. It's going to come in handy in the future. Tiny Nezuko is cuteness personified, and I'll defend that hill to the end!💪

It's very fun to see your first impression theory slowly evolve and unravel as you try to figure out what's up with this family and Rui, only to discover that....he did all of this. In fact the truth of his story is more tragic to me than any of your ideas you had in mind. Regret is a painful thing. Ahhh i cant wait for you to meet the other Hashira!! I wonder who your favorite will be.

Shinobu Kocho's VA became my favorite because of her voice here! She is also the voice of Yor Forger in Spy X Family and the deaf girl in Silent Voice.

Rui's past really tugs at your heartstrings 💔. You can just picture this tiny, sickly little guy, probably feeling so alone and just wishing for a warm hug from his parents or to feel like he belonged. All he really wanted was that simple, everyday love that every kid deserves.👨‍👩‍👦 And then, to think about Muzan ... it's just chilling. He's like a shadow, looking for anyone who's hurting or feeling lost, and he just swoops in. 😈🫴🏻🩸🙇🏻 He doesn't see Rui's pain or his desperate wish for a family; he only sees an opportunity to get what he wants. It's so cold how he manipulates those deepest, most vulnerable feelings, like a spider spinning a web around a tiny fly. It’s a real tragedy that someone so desperate for connection ended up being used that way, and it just shows how utterly unfeeling Muzan can be. It makes you feel so much for Rui , while also making you shake your head at Muzan's cruelty .

I’m glad you find the demons’ backstories to be emotional so far! I think knowing how each demon became one makes the story more interesting. The scene where Tanjiro stood up to Giyuu was one of my favourite scenes! He knows his duty but he can still also emphasize with them because they were once humans too. Next episode is going to be a fun one! Looking forward to your reaction to the new characters/Hashiras!

I love the way you always talk about themes and that you can be so aligned with Tanjiro's empathy. It's a really nice thing that DS is really great at achieving. Anime in general. I get that some people don't like the long monologues or flashbacks, or the grandiose, sometimes exaggerated, nature of the portrayals. But I personally love it. There's a difference between excusing bad behaviour and understanding the nuances of a human's lived experience. Empathy is a skill that many people take for granted.

I'm so glad I watch these alone because I'm sobbing and laughing at myself for sobbing all at once ^^;;

I think that we the audience also forget (bc we are obvs used to it AND have actually seen Tamayo and Yushiro), that for the demon slayer corps there are no good demons,. They probably have existed for hundreds if not thousands of years, and all they see is carnage and betrayal, so of course they cant accept that maybe there are some out there that are different. Especially those that come from demon slaying families
