So I've noticed that I've started to fall into a bad habit, or at least I think it's a bad habit, of speaking whilst watching.

I am conscious that it might not be the most ideal so I want to gauge if it would be better for me to be more aware and start trying to pause a lot more like I did with the AOT days?

I think I fell into not pausing as much because I got a lot of criticism for it but then I've seen criticism for not pausing flare up so just wanted to approach you all because you are all much nicer than YouTube comments :')

Context is important. So long as you're not talking over important dialogue, I think it's fine.

I would say somewhere in the middle of those two answers 😆. As long as you still know what's going on in the show I don't mind whether you pause or not. Either way I love the way you react and analyse! ❤️

Charlie baker

Just do what feels right to you in the moment, i think a mix is nice and pauses for more complex thoughts make sense but reactions are about watching with you and seeing how you engage with the material on screen

Tobi.SG

you're MOSTLY fine, sometimes you say something a bit too long that would be better if you paused, or at least waited for a better moment to say it, never was a big enough issue for me to complain personally but since you're asking that's what I think, not everything you have to say needs a pause

Lustful~Mirage

I'm always happy to listen to you talk, it's just always interesting and nice to hear what you have to say or how many things you want to say 😊❤️ so I'm always happy if you want to talk lots

jenypeni

I don’t really mind when it comes to you. You actually go through the comments and if you missed something important the comments will let you know like the post credit WHA scene that you ended up doing at the start of the following video

HAL

up to you just don't hold back if you have somethign to say, either pause or talk over it either is fine as long as you can follow along

evil terrorr

I went with overthinking it But at the same time i understand the dilemma. On one side not pausing could cause a chance to miss something in the dialogue that may or may not give context to something that when missed could cause confusion down the line (i guess one of the down sides of doing reacts on subbed content). But on the other side pausing a lot can cause annoyance on those who like it to be a more fluent react experience. When wanting to go a bit more in depth with your thought process/ experience about certain events i think pausing would help the best. But if its maybe a simple one or two sentences of thoughts i would say just keep it rolling. I can see both sides of the conversation and i can imagine it can be difficult to juggle between them. Me personally find it to be jarring when reacters pauze a lot for only maybe an omg or wtf type reaction just for the sake of pausing but when there is an actual response/thought process that needs to be shared and that would involve talking over a large chunk of the show than i rather have they pauze. Edit: in the end its up to you how you decide to go forward. We are here to see how you experience the show’s you are watching well atleast that’s what im here for 😬

st4rmin

I think pausing everytime might be a bit much, but maybe if you feel like you have a lot to say, feel free to pause ! I also think that even if you talk over, you'd go back if you felt like you missed some infos

Sacha

Some of my favourite reactors are the ones who pause quite frequently throughout the episode. And some even go back a bit so it doesn’t ruin the flow of the scene they have paused on. Another way I see it done that I like also is if they have to watch the whole episode in one (for timer reasons) they will then go through the episode again without sound and go back to certain moments. At the end of the day this is always going to be difficult thing to gauge what is best. I think you are doing great personally but could definitely take advantage of the pause button 😊

YaeliEz (Yael)

I enjoy the pausing, but do whatever works for you! I’m here for your thoughts, I already watched the show. I just don’t want you to miss things.

Van

You're probably overthinking it. I didn't notice you missing anything important so far while you were talking. Maybe pause a bit more during the next few episodes and see if that makes the complaints better, but honestly I don't really feel like you need to change how you do stuff currently.

Creepy ϟ

I do feel a bit overwhelmed at times when you are talking over the episode. (With love)

DrSophieDarlingReacts

Yeah I've noticed that myself :') I never feel like it's going to be a long point enough to pause but then I get going and by then it's too late! I'm just a yapper that gets too invested in what they want to say and then forget to pause haha!!

MackXi

I joined because I liked your reaction style. Get your thoughts out and pause if you need to. Don't worry about pausing too much or too little.

DrSophieDarlingReacts

(With love) I also completely sympathise because I too get overwhelmed with myself when editing and I'm like "why didn't I pause to say this?!" But usually it's because I start off thinking it'll just be a singular point and then I get going and by then it's like "OH NO!" :')

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

If you feel you may have talked over the dialog for too long and may have missed something, then you could just rewind it back a bit.

Vivasvan Gautam

Sacha good to see you here, I recognise you from lm reactions lol

Vivasvan Gautam

I just replay the parts again if there is too much overlap between dialogues and your analysis. but then I am someone who doesn't like to complain and usually tries to make the best what they get. I am just happy to be here tbh. but once you figure it out, feel free to switch or continue with either format.

Nismo_PAPRIKAS

I don't want this to sound like I'm not engaging with the question but, I think you should just do it whichever way you like best. I'm actually saying this from a viewer's perspective, cuz what I like in reactors most is being genuine. That's why I'm not into hype reactors at all and why I in this case would prefer whatever you would prefer because it is (or at least feels) most genuine that way

Jim Nasium

I think it depends on the anime you are watching. Stuff like Witch Hat Atelier there's no problem talking as you are watching without pausing but then there are animes like JJK which you can easily miss the smallest detail where pausing is ok, especially when certain things are being explained because you can easily miss something. You just have to get a feel of which animes you can do one or the other or a mix of both.

Chris Ridenour

I think you should just do what you want to regardless of polls. I mean what if it turns out something like 60/40? The side that got 40% is not gonna be happy. You can't please everyone, you should just do it whatever way makes you comfortable and people will watch or they won't. 🤷‍♂️I realize that's not the most helpful reply but in my opinion the worst thing a reactor can do is try to please everyone. It's an impossibility. Small, petty people are gonna get angry either way because once you have an audience they feel they have ownership over you and can dictate how you do things. I say this with love: fuck 'em. You do you.

WondrousMay

I think it depends on the show you’re watching. With AOT, I think pausing a lot was a good choice since it’s the type of show that you were theorizing while getting new information in each episode so speaking while watching might have caused you to miss important information. I personally think you’re currently doing fine! You can always rewind if you think you’ve talked over something or missed something. I really like your reaction style and how you analyze things so I don’t have a problem with it!

The_Venomous_Viper

I've never cared if a reactor wants to pause to say something or rewind if they miss something! We are watching a reaction, if someone wants to watch something uniterrupted they should go watch it themselves lol If you have like a quick comment I don't think it requires a pause as long as you are still able to absorb what is happening at the same time, some shows are more dense with dialouge or fast visuals than others though so its probably situational. I'm all for pausing if you have a larger idea/comment to say. You can even cut those from the YT edit if you get too many complainers, but again its more a them issue honestly.

Gpinko

This may not be helpful but I feel it depends and shouldn’t be an either-or rule! I dont mind short comments over certain parts while the show is playing, or if there’s a significant pause in the scene that’s totally fine! But admittedly, if it goes on too long while an important scene or dialogue is going on, it’s not my favorite (from anyone, not singling you out). The reason being sometimes the dialogue can be missed, and it can take you out of the moment; I notice sometimes you slow down a little because you’re trying to voice your thought while following along, or don’t always finish a thought because something shocking comes up. In which case, feel free to pause! If you make a comment and then feel you want to say more there’s no harm in pausing.

Mickael Landry

I totally get how YouTube members can be harsh about this sometimes, and I also agree with WondrousMay that it's way better to take a break when you feel like you need to say something important or when your speech starts dragging on. It's way smarter than talking over the episode and possibly missing out on key info because you lose focus.

Anna Kyruin

Use your best judgement, if the idea you want to express is going to need a lot of words, probably best to pause.. but I for one am fine with how you've been reacting, I especially appreciate that when you feel like you missed something you go back and watch the segment again.

ratratratratrat

The reaction is fine generally you never miss muchhhh don't worry, but you might have to play it by ear, you never miss much but as a watcher it can sometimes just happen to be something you wanted a reaction from or whatever else, and it can be disappointing when you miss a small moment I was looking forward to you noticing.

Blackguard4

I generally think that it's better for you and the viewer if you pause if you have a longer thought that you want to express because it can be a little distracting to hear two conversations going on at once.

Aidos Smagulov

Personally, I’m fine with either option, as long as you’re comfortable with your choice and don’t end up missing anything in the episode because of talking over it

Ella

I do agree with some that sometimes I get overwhelmed with two conversations happening and am finding it hard to actually hear your thoughts. But as others also say, going back a bit to not miss things or not pausing for quick sentence is fine.

DrSophieDarlingReacts

It's hard to predict if I'm going to have a longer thought tbh. It's because I always think it'll be a small comment and then it ends up being something else.

DrSophieDarlingReacts

I mean small moments might be missed anyway because it's a first time watch. There's really no way to catch everything unless you re-watch :')

Ryuuji Gremory

The way you are doing it is fine. Pause whenever you feel like you need to but there is no need to pause for everything. And if you feel like you missed something it's also fine to rewind a bit.

Rik

imo in general its better to pause, unless ofc its just a small 5s comment about what just happened on screen and nothing really to think about, otherwise its harder to follow and if something important happen on screen while you are talking it can lead into either missing that important detail or you having to stop talking about what you were thinking to pay attention to the show, and both of those cases are not very good and can be avoided by pausing. With that said, like others also mentioned, this isnt a big problem that i feel happens too much, i never felt like i should comment something about the way you react because it never bothered me, just saying now because you asked x)

Seryu Ubiquitous

i think i have to tell you the harsh truth....... whatever you do, you cant make everyone happy xD just be you, i at least like your reactions the way you do them. some talk while the anime is not bad and i think this way it feels more like we are watching the anime together then just watching a reaction. but sometimes when you have to say more its also good to pause for a moment. so.... balance? middleground? yeah, that sounds good.

ratratratratrat

Of course of courseee, I'm with you in that it'll never be perfect on a first time, I never wanna set that expectationas a viewer. But you are confident in your insights and I enjoy the paused speaking as much as the direct second by second reaction, so if you need to pause or rewind, I'm with that too. I will say from my time in reaction and review community, most people who are upset at regular pauses or long speech segments aren't really there for the reactor, they're there to rewatch the show and hear someone echo their thoughts and feelings. But you have a lot more to say than just to echo, so I say thats more valuable than how easy to watch the reactions are. Literally takes a moment to scrub and skip if its so bad for them, keep it up I say

Jobbe Smit

Talking over important scenes is annoying but I never thought you'd done that so you're probably fine and overthinking it?

Blackguard4

Yeah, that's completely fair and I understand what you mean. Sometimes that's just how it is and I think everyone understands that situation. Don't beat yerself up about it too much though no matter how you decide to go with this poll. I think we'll all be just fine no matter what!

Mina E.D

I think it depends on the point you're trying to make. For the most part I haven't seen an issue, but maybe once or twice recently I've thought that maybe pausing for a bit or rewinding would have been better. So I would say maybe it's a tiny bit of an issue but I also wouldn't pause every single time you want to comment on something. I dont see it necessary cause you dont seem to be missing dialogue or a visual(missing stuff is not your thing at all), but maybe it could be perceived that way if something is happening while youre making a point about something else.

Chris Walker

Honestly I think you're doing a great job regardless, if I wanted to watch the shows 'uninterrupted' I'd just, like, watch them. That's also why I only watch your reactions to shows (and episodes) I've already seen, so I know what happens, I'm here to see what you think about what's happening. That said if you want to pause more I don't think it will detract from the experience, but it makes no nevermind to me either way.

Krul

Monthly reminder that you are awesome and that you should do what you feel is best. That is what has gotten you this far anyway 😊 Youtube (and the wider internet in general) can be a pretty awful, but never forget that you have been able to create this wonderful community for all of us, that we love your reactions and that we want to hear your honest thoughts about the shows you are watching. We know you are a perfectionist, and that you want to get this just right, but rest assured that you are doing an amazing job and that we are Ok with you tweaking and tinkering with your reactions. It is Ok to experiment a little bit and decide what feels best for you, so don't worry about it. You got this!

DrSophieDarlingReacts

How dare you recognise my perfectionism ;) but yes I'm definitely going to try be more in tune with pausing!

Cirac1

Overall I think your reactions are great, but if you were to twist my arm for a stance on pausing vs not pausing I think its inbetween. It'd be silly to pause every time you wanted to make a comment - because either you'd be doubling the runtime of the episode, or I'd worry you'd feel like you couldn't talk as much and would then just have long stretches of silence. But when you want to talk in a bit more detail about something that just came up, then pausing is is ideal to not force you to rush your thoughts and not risk missing anything.

Buzzard

I have to say I'm in the middle as well. How you react is fine BUUUTT sometimes you go on just a teeny bit with the talking. Not that I'm complaining, mind you. I love your accent and would listen to you read a phone book all day.😘 I just don't want you to get distracted and miss something important in the show.

Bowsber

I get the dilemma because a lot of people do get arsey about pausing a lot (despite literally watching a reaction...) but I think the most important thing is to do what feels most intuitive while doing your best not to miss anything. Try not to overthink it too much, your individuality and how you personally choose to engage with a show is the entire reason people watch you and are subbed to the patreon!! I say this knowing damn well how easy it is to overthink how I acted on camera in retrospect after streaming lol, i really do empathise too much....

Robin Crow

I think trust your own judgement, I'm don't know if you're the person editing the videos but if there's an issue you will see it in there

delle

I personally haven't had any issues with how you do your reacts! I will express that I do like that you pause for many of your thoughts (my brain can't process a reactor's words and the show/movie at the same time), but I don't think it's necessary to *always* pause if you wanna say something! I can just rewind if I don't quite catch what you said the first time. It only starts to bug me when reactors never ever pause because then I feel like they miss quite a bit of the show/movie, sometimes really important bits, and it can really impact their understanding and reaction; but ultimately it's up to you and whatever feels best/most natural when you're reacting! I'll be sticking around in any case ♥

Mariusz Ostrowski

Why we even discussing this? Yap to the fullest if you feel like it!

Vick

I love hearing you talk. that's literally why I watch you, so I'm in favor of the pausing
