I'm trying to pause more rather than talking over :')

Gojo didn't crush the ants so that's my bad! I didn't pay enough attention to realise he stepped over them so apologies! I still think the metaphor stands for tradition vs modernity but yeah I somehow didn't catch that. I think I saw the step and heard the noise and then looked away whilst laughing and didn't recognise that they remained unharmed!

i was just about to run out of videos to watch at work today thank god

Goldie

Im team watch the first 5 eps of s2 then watch the movie as well, this was what i was getting at when i asked whether you were going to watch in release order or narrative chronological order 😅 I think watching the first 5 eps of s2, then the movie helps with really feeling the emotional weight of some of the events of the movie. My friends who i have introduced to jjk have confirmed this haha

beaverfurr240

I think watching the first 5 episodes of season 2 before the movie is a good idea, without saying much It's because that's chronologically how it goes but it is of course also fine to just watch the movie and then season 2 but I would recommend doing season 2 first 5 episodes then the movie for the best viewing experience.

Your eyeliner looks so good here 😄🔥

You're cooking with the makeup in this one

I think it might be better to watch JJK 0 before Season 2 and follow the release order. The movie (and manga) was released first and feels like the intended viewing experience from the author's perspective. Of course, either order works, and I'll enjoy watching your reactions regardless Btw, your makeup looks especially gorgeous today ✨

TheBlubby

My interpretation of the ant shot is that after he steps on them, we see that none of them were harmed because of his infinity which kind of serves as a visual metaphor for how he has the power to crush the people beneath him and act however he wants as principal Yaga is saying, but is simply choosing not just like he chose not to crush the ants.

DrSophieDarlingReacts

That and it could also be that Gojo is rebelling against the strict order to some degree as we've already seen that he's shaking things up :) He transcends their order and structure because they can't contain him and likewise he wants the same to apply to his students so that the structure is changed from within. There can be more than one meaning. But I didn't catch that he didn't actually crush them - I blame my eyes so that's my bad!

DrSophieDarlingReacts

Gojo didn't crush the ants so that's my bad! I didn't pay enough attention to realise he stepped over them so apologies! I still think the metaphor stands but yeah I was wrong in that he didn't crush but rather chose to allow the order to continue but is still showing he is rebelling from it.

Following on from your analysis of Megumi's self-sacrificial tendencies in the previous eps of this arc: even during the baseball game, Megumi's strategy was to bunt it and get caught out (self-sacrifice again) so that his teammates could run the bases.

Gyt

Surprised people r saying watch the Movie later pls watch it first like how it’s released , the point of the movie is to leave u asking a bit of questions and then be anticipate and exited for answers in Ss2 ( the movie goes back in time before Ss1 and the first 5 eps of Ss2 goes back in time before the movie )

Tobi.SG

team jjk0 release order here. anyway, the jujustroll is actually funnier (to me anyway) than the previous one, "Pan" in japanese means bread and "Da" is like a proclamation it can be the equivalent of "it's" or whatever fits the context of the sentence, so Panda was doing a pun there, "Pan Da because I'm a Panda"

Torje Amundsen

Watching the first 5 episodes of season 2 before the movie makes no sense narratively, the movie literally sets up and teases the next season, and the changes made to the movie compared to the manga are made specifically to set up season 2. So many questions you're supposed to have during the movie suddenly don't make sense anymore. I don't understand how so many people have been randomly convinced that watching the start of season 2 makes sense just because it's "chronological" 😭

TheRubyMinecat

Great Reaction! I may have misremembered what you said during the beach scene with the curses but what he meant is to save everything they have to seal gojo on october 31st, by reserve they meant to keep those tricks or whatever they have in reserve until then, and if you remember back to episode 5 or 6 during the cafe scene, geto mentions using something called the prison realm!

hman70

Touching the discourse, "Release Order" imo would mean watching JJK0 *before* watching season 1! JJK0 was the first JJK written the main series was originally a sequel/spin-off to jjk0. And that's actually what I recommend lol. But since we're already not doing that it almost doesn't matter as long as you keep the timelines in mind. There are no wrong answers I think.

hman70

I think it makes some sense because JJK 0 and HiddenInventory were never meant to be read/watched back to back. They came out like 3 years apart in the manga. The jumps can be incredibly confusing to new watchers and that solution eases that confusion at the cost of making them watch the show with a series of convoluted instructions. That said as I wrote in another comment that all doesn't mean the solution is to split the watch S1-HI-JJK0-S2 I think the solution is to watch in manga release order, start the whole watch with jjk0. Regardless Sophie will be able to handle to confusion especially since people have already been prepping her for it.

The ants not being crushed ineed sends a message. A message along the lines of "you only live cause i allow it"

Henrik Mortensen

Love the baseball game. I am also club watch the first 5 episodes of S2 before the JJK 0 Movie. I think it provides some context which makes the movie better. Neither option is wrong, but in my opinion watching those episodes first improves the viewing experience of both those episodes and the movie. Either way you will have a good time, MAPPA really kicks up the animation a nudge which is saying something as S1 already has gorgeous animation.

Atena

Yay, Movie first 🥳 Personally, I think recommending to watch S2 eps 1-5 first and then the Movie is a bit of a disservice to you... Narratively, the Movie lays the groundwork for the story being told from S2 onwards (even for the events that happened in the past). And as Literature Dr, I’m sure you will appreciate the storytelling way more if you watch the Movie and then S2!

domi

Its been a long while since i last watched JJK0, but wouldnt watching it first mean that you are kinda lost on the power system? I dont remember them explaining anything, tho i dont think they put much importance on it either 🤔

hman70

IMO they explain the world about as deeply as the first 3-4 episodes of season 1

domi

I love the comedy on JJK, and this episode is such a great example. Also idk if you catched it but: Miwa: the mango she was letting ripen in the refrigerator is gone. Mai: hated mangoes, but got over it recently. First Mai and Nishimiya stole her edamame, now she steals a mango, cant have shit in Kyoto jujutsu high bro. About the thing Megumi did when they were playing, the move its called Sacrifice Bunt (or just bunt) and its purpose its to advance the runner on base at the cost of outing yourself, so you just put up your bat on the path of the ball, so it hits it softly, kills the momentum, and then it just rolls somewhere infield (between home and the 3 bases). Depending on the situation it may be not a sacrifice to do it (like if everyone is thinking youre gonna hit hard so they move back) and you can get on base, but as you can see Megumi probably wasnt evern trying, and Gojo def saw something there.

Jackson

i am firmly in team “watch in release order” obviously the movie and the first 5 episodes of season 2 provide a ton of context for each other and sure, you can do it out of order, but i would recommend to do it in the order intended. the creator of this story did it in that order for a reason. either way i can’t wait to see your reactions to the hidden inventory arc!!

ellie

i'd say follow the release order as well! jjk0 perfectly sets up s2 and i think s2 perfectly answers certain questions you're supposed to have. ^^

Anonlou

Skuna is weird. But i think that is mild compared to calling Mai, may. Especially cause there is a character called “may”. I just don’t want to seem angry or mad when commenting so i Don’t say anything at all. Because I genuinely adore your reactions and your insight and don’t want to stress you out. Going through a tunnel on my commute so, typing comments lol.

DrSophieDarlingReacts

I mean Mai is pronounced May in English and Skuna is accurate to how it's pronounced in Japanese so I'm going to stick with it

DrSophieDarlingReacts

Yeah it's been a while since that was brought up so a good near 2 months since I watched that episode haha!

Mickael Landry

Great reaction Sophie 👏 Tuning into what your audience prefers just shows how thoughtful you are as a creator, you always want to give us the best experience possible✨️ It's great that you're looking out for your viewers (a huge thank you for that), but opening this up for debate might bring back for you that exhausting Demon Slayer order drama! 😅 If you want to protect your peace, save yourself the headache and avoid the back-and-forth arguments, sticking strictly to the official release order is often (if not always) a safe, solid rule of thumb. The creators usually intend for it to be seen that way anyhow, it structured that way for a reason, and it keeps things simple for you! You're not making any mistakes by reaching out to the community, but to save yourself from future stress, here's my advice.🙏

TheRubyMinecat

Yea this show can throw alot at you so its easy to forget stuff, excited for your upcoming reactions! Also I'm in favour of following the release order, watching the movie before the first few episodes for s2 is alot btter as it sets up alot of questions and dynamics that i would personally love to see you breakdown. Watching s2 first can definitely spoil a good amount of the stuff from the movie!

Ethan Tarr

34:00 This one is a silly pun, because panda sounds like "pan" (bread) "ha" (faction, clique, school of thought). In this case indicating a preference for bread, or more literally, "bread person" or "team bread." Hence the next line where Panda admits that this joke is kinda forced. 😅

zahraa

I disagree entirely with the comments suggesting to watch the first 5 episodes of season 2 before watching the movie. Yes, chronologically speaking it might make sense, but that's not how it was meant to be viewed. I would argue the first 5 episodes are more enjoyable to watch having watched the movie.

DrSophieDarlingReacts

Well I'm not intending to change up haha! I'm still watching the movie before S2 :)

DrSophieDarlingReacts

Yeah see I wasn't asking for people's opinions as I am watching it in release order haha! I think everyone is just offering their perspective as I mentioned 1 comment on a YT video had mentioned a different order. I'm going to be watching it in release as it works better :)

Buxton

Definitely watch the movie before S2 IMO.

Leah Henderson

I also love the bad guys always hanging out on a relaxing beach like a bunch of tourists...it's such a fun inversion of the classic villain lair! XD

Astra

I'm team JJK 0 before season 2 for sure!

Miło

"How much wilder the show is gonna get" *AWARE*

Bowsber

Loving the mid ep discussions, you're absolutely cooking! It's much better being able to see you fully express your thoughts without the worry of missing something. Panda is mad in the stroll because Bread = "Pan" in Japanese, so it's a dumb pun lmao (possibly the least important piece of context ever presented). More importantly, I really love the conversation at the start between Geto and the curses, it recontextualises so much about Hanami's actions during the event. I remember thinking it was dumb that Hanami was just standing there while Todo is teaching/slapping Yuji or while Megumi, Inumaki and Kamo were speaking, before writing it off as a typical shonen 'Time doesn't move while people are talking' moment - but NO, her entire purpose was to distract them anyway, and she was actively avoiding killing anyone, so letting them waste time like that worked perfectly for her. She even specifically breaks Megumi's phone the moment he starts calling Gojo, because he's the literal time limit on their plan (and besides that she's basically always reacting to attacks rather than actively moving towards anyone). I'm always impressed by how much Gege seems to think stuff through.

Mickael Landry

That’s a great observation! Honestly, that specific detail 🏖 creeps me out for two reasons. First, it humanizes them just enough to make the audience sympathize with them, letting us momentarily forget all the awful things they’ve done. Second, it shows pure arrogance. When villains have the luxury to just chill, it means they are completely unfazed and highly confident in their master plan. An unpredictable, smiling villain is always the most terrifying to deal with I believe.🙀

Hauxley Kernick

In my opinion it’s because he enjoys killing weak things because he’s a psychopath

Hauxley Kernick

I know this is a but ridiculous but gojo technically didn’t step on the ants and they actually weren’t crushed because of his infinity

RunAwayCloak

I hope you see this even tho it’s a old video but clans are pretty much still ran like this when it comes to women in Japan the imperial household literally are bringing back old family branches instead of letting the women of the head family take power bc there is not enough men from the main family to take power but they would rather stick to tradition and use a old family branch bc Japan widely still believes women shouldn’t be in a place of power.

Jake Moore

Oh man, I'm dying at your theory crafting. It's so good, and I can't wait to catch up.
