Two seasons later and we will NOT stop talking about best boi Rengoku 💗

Muichiro, the Ragebaiter Hashira. I love how you thought about if Tanjiro was here in this instance because Muichiro, even with his memories, is NOT like Tanjiro in the face of demons. He does not care about their bullshit and just says "shut up and go to hell now bye" He doesnt have time for your heartfelt backstory 😂 speaking of, this Upper Rank didn't even get one, and tbh, that's fine with me. Awful from start to finish. When this came out there was a bit of criticism for this fight scene compared to Entertainment District, because Muichiro went 1v1 with Upper 5 almost too easily within 2 episodes, whereas we needed at LEAST two people just to take out Gyutaro, and like, 3x as many episodes, struggles, and injuries. But also, Muzan did say Gyutaro would have been stronger if he didn't have Daki, so honestly he was probably a higher level Than Upper 5 in the first place. I feel like it also just depends on the opponents matchup, and Muichiros absolute sass was the perfect counterpoint to Upper 5's pride, which ultimately destroyed him.

They're probably also forgetting the foreshadowing from Tengen when speaking with Gyutaro when he's complaining about Tengen being talented, and he's like "no you wanna see real talent?" And it flashes to the Stone Hashira and Muichiro indicating that even Tengen is acknowledging just how STRONG Muichiro is. He's also from a lineage of First Breathing and pushed his body to the point of being violently sick - he was more than capable of taking on this 5th rank. Ume and Gyutaro were menaces because they were SO IN SYNC with each other that their attacks were hard to navigate, but also they both had to be decapitated at the same time leaving so much room for error. Also as you said, Gyutaro wasn't at his strongest because of Ume. Man was still a fucking menace though!

I will always be funny to me that Upper Moon 5 got absolutely dog walked by a fourteen year old boy 😂

YES YES YOU GET IT So many people dont (which is fine, but its nice when someone does lol) I feel like also people look at Muichiro and Tengen and just naturally go, oh the large muscular Hashira with two swords has to be stronger obviously 😂 (am i saying this as a short person who gets underestimated constantly, perhaps i am projecting). But all of those factors you just said-absolute yes. He became a Hashira in TWO MONTHS for a reason.

Actually Mui is younger than Tanjiro! He's 14 and Tanjiro 15

Mateo_Tano

And here it is, the second Muichiro episode! God I love him and I love how he defeated Gyokko both in battle and mentally, he messed him up SOO bad. About Mitsuri... Queen. My third favourite character for a reason 🩷

Mateo_Tano

No spoilers but... Hearing you say certain things is so funny cause... You'll laugh too 😭

I miss Rengoku like the dad I needed ngl Gyokko's "art" would have freaked Zenitsu tf out more than anything else

Buzzard

Muichiro was as cool as a cucumber until upper 5 called him a maggot. The memory of the maggots feeding on his brother made him go slice and dice on the demon.

You are so right! People always forget that Tengen admitted to being less talented than Muichiro. And about the match ups! Demons are ranked by the ability to defeat another demon and that's different than the ability to actually kill them. Gyutaro and Daki are tricky in a fight to the death with a demon slayer but in a uh "friendly" match against another demon? That's a a different story. And Gyokko is also a poison demon like Gyutaro (whose poison seems more lethal than disabling) + he can teleport, I can see why he can hold the position against those two even if he's technically easier to kill by a ds. Mui would probably struggle against Gyutaro and Daki too, especially alone since he'd have to fight two people simultaneously, maybe poisoned by something more lethal and fast acting that Gyokko's needles. Tengen is really resistant to poison so he's a good match for Gyutaro, besides I just checked Corps Records and he's the fastest Hashira (and Mui is 8th, out of 9), so it doesn't seems like Mui could dodge things that Tengen can't. So while Mui is probably a better fighter than Tengen, he'd probably also struggle that much in a fight with the Upper Six. I've always been suspicious about Muzan's comment on Gyutaro's strength being dampered by not absorbing Daki though. Because, is he saying that because he would get a significant power boost by doing that or is he saying it in the sense that looking after Daki would hold him back in battle and he looks down on attachment in general? Because Daki's existence makes him infinitely harder to kill. Most notoriously, there's the simultaneously having both heads decapitated but also, Daki is a long range fighter while Gyutaro is a short range one. It just makes teamwork almost a must to kill them.

That race match was just for fun from the author because if you look really into it you realize that it's absolute bs. I mean Giyuu got lost, Obanai ran zigzag like a snake and Mitsuri ate before so she wasn't fit. I don't think this race is really meant to be taken seriously as a power scaling evidence

One of the people I'm closest to has suffered since they were a child at the hands of an abusive twin. Since they were kids, their twin has verbally and emotionally abused and manipulated them, cut them off from friends and family, screamed at them, tore at their insecurities...you get the idea. I cannot like Yuchiro or Sanemi after seeing that. Even if they were being "cruel to be kind," even if they were just kids, I cannot look past the damage that kind of vitriol and abuse does to the recipient. They know their actions cause pain, and honestly, they arent even effective at achieving the outcomes they want. Some people are really like that, so I dont fault the anime for it's portrayal of that personality (especially in response to trauma), nor do I fault people for seeing the motivations behind the actions. But I always feel the need to remind people that it shouldn't excuse their behavior, even if it explains it. And that there are much, much better ways to handle those emotions.

Also, I'd be remiss if I didnt say that this is once again a fantastic react video. Love your explanation and reaction to Rengoku's precense in the narrative, I'm right with you in missing Inosuke, and as always, you have top tier analysis of the symbolism/scenes

Lu

A thing I really appreciate with Demon Slayer is how Rengoku haunts the narrative. He saved a kid beyond the grave

Josh Greiner

Mist? Nah, Muichiro is the Sass Hashira

Aldryx_Thetahart

Seeing Gyokko get turned into a sushi bowl was one of the most satisfying Demon kills in the entire series.
