lol how Edit: how did I get here this early

MP5Enthusiast

Imagine what JJK would be if Gege were hugged as a child?

Bits and bytes

I also cried yesterday. I was able to bunker down in my office before my coworkers could see me. I learned and made sure to stock it with tissues. Let’s do this again. This is my father’s episode….

Brandon

Man, Yaga is such an underrated character for the story. I don’t think people realize the impact he has. The higher ups don’t just hate him because he may be special grade, he also goes against their ideals. The higher ups want sorcerers to be tools, fight curses until they can’t anymore, without a second thought about it. Yaga makes sure the sorcerers that attend his school have their own motives and reasons to fight, that they won’t just blindly do what they’re told. Look at the other school, Gakuganji (who is a higher up) tells his students to kill Yuji in season 1 and they all just accept it, minus Miwa. He humanizes his students, which is what his technique is about. And in his final words, he humanizes Gakuganji to make a choice for himself. Gives him the choice to either keep the secret to himself, or tell the higher ups about it.

🐼… at least we know the formula of the show 🥲🥂

Karolis Sad.

Not knowing who Gojo is for a sorcerer is like not knowing who Lebron James is for a basketballer

Sonja Seren

Pandas can cry and Yuji can throw hands without sorcery.

Aldryx_Thetahart

Farewell, Hundred-Acre Wood. Hello Fight Club.

Jim Nasium

Jesus Christ.... How are you so good with context. You picked up on something in this episode that no one else has that I've seen their reaction to. Can't really say cause I don't even know if it's a spoiler or not. It's like it's some kind of super power 😂

Imothy

I’m pretty certain Kirara is meant to be a trans woman. And you’ve had it correct calling her Yuki :)

TheRealFimet

It doesn't really get mentioned that much and its not really a spoiler but Kirara is pretty much heavily implied to be a trans girl, and it's usually treated as that ^.^

Sonja Seren

Also it is telling of the sorcerer society that as the Zenin clan is being wiped out they are willing to condemn Yaga but forgive it so long as he gave up the secret for how to create artificial souls that they inevitably would build to be a controlled army. We can see the end of the old guard happening even without Gojo. Now what Gakuganji does with the knowledge.....

DrSophieDarlingReacts

Yeah in editing I was like "hold up" because they said 'was' which implies they aren't anymore!

JoshyBoi1912

This is not mentioned anywhere in future episodes you're apparently just meant to deduce this from what you saw in this episode But you're correct! Kirara is a trans-female. Hence why Megumi remembers Kirara as a male, since she likely transitioned only after she left Jujutsu High with Hakari. As for the translations, you'll see both they/them and she/her being used!

Eugene Conner

Me during the opening comments: I can't remember anything else sad coming, I think you'll have a break. Sophie: Baby Panda!! Me: Fuck!

izimatsara

Hakari would love erwin with how many giant gambles he takes

Sebas Tian

Yeah Kirara is a dude. I guess he's a trans girl. And with Yuki you got the correct name. I think it was Tsukumo Yuki

DrSophieDarlingReacts

Well considering they said 'was a dude' I'd say trans woman so I'll be using she/her pronouns :)

Jim Nasium

This is what I was referring too in my comment earlier. I even saw Sophie's face changed for a second and said "Wait..." But didn't finish what she said and I saw the gears turning 😂. But amazing how she picked up on that small detailed and then noticed how they were referring to that character afterwards

Leah Henderson

"Just make sure you remember this...even pandas cry." Excuse me, just over here ugly crying for a cartoon panda... T_T

fuwafuwari~

The curse that Yaga left the other principal is so good. You need more than one soul (you need 3 that's actually compatible with one another) to create just one self-autonomous cursed puppet. Knowing the higher ups, they'd probably do all sorts of atrocities for the sake of "practicality" to make an army of this. So, basically, the curse Yaga left Gakuganji was the one he bore. Do you tell cruel, selfish people who would 100% commit atrocities for things to go their way something that would put countless souls (multiplied by 3 lol) at risk? The curse of knowledge.

ML Snow

In the early episodes of S1, Gojo introduces Yuta and Hakari together and mentions that those specific third-years could surpass him...so, I think this sets the bar. It seems to me that Maki simply doesn't like Hakari, probably because of his delinquent, rebellious vibe. in contrast, she loves Yuta... and she thinks she's hiding it really well 😅

baileygobrr

not you predicting exactly how this episode starts gege strikes again traumatising another poor jjk fan

I Love Choso Kamo

I love how gakuganji isnt portrayed as a villain in this, in fact he wanted Yaga to live longer and seriously respected him, but as Gojo states Gakuganji is a "Follow the rules" guy, and even panda recognizes that Gakuganji didnt want to kill yaga and in a way I think he was almost angry panda didnt avenge yaga and take it out on gakuganji

Mickael Landry

This episode has so many subtle director choices that make me appreciate MAPPA even more. 📽🎬 The whole illegal ring intro is a massive love letter to Fincher's Fight Club, the bouncer even drops the "first rule" line word for word, which has me cracking up! 😂 Plus, seeing Principal Yaga quietly sitting side by side with Tsukamoto gives off those surreal, melancholic live-action Christopher Robin vibes with Winnie the Pooh; such an unexpectedly bittersweet imagery right before the storm hits. Coming right off last episode where Maki wielding her cursed weapon against the entire Zen'in clan felt like Beatrix Kiddo slicing through the Crazy 88 in Kill Bill. 🗡🩸 But what really blows me away is the room scene with Hakari and Yuji. Instead of relying on typical fast anime cuts, MAPPA locks the camera in one static angle for minutes. Every single micro movement, their breathing, nervous posture shifts, tiny hand twitches are painstakingly animated. 😲 It captures Hakari’s volatile, ticking-time-bomb personality 💣 so brilliantly. MAPPA is just on an unstoppable streak. We are being so spoiled this season!

Lu

i love how you picked up on the "she has him wrapped around her little finger." they're one of my favourite couples in jjk (gojo geto has my heart tho) - excited for you to see more with them! it also cracks me up that itadori legit thought the best lie would be to say "who is gojo" like come on my boy.... of all things haha also i know some mentioned it already but it is very much implied that Kirara is a transwoman!

Benja

1:31 "How much worse can it get", yeah

JitterBones

Guy: "No wizard sh**, you only throw hands." Yuji: "That's literally what I'm known for!"

Vinícius Oliveira

kirara is a trans girl, although the english captions are kinda weird… when megumi said he thought the other student were a boy panda says “yes, she was” instead of “yeah”

Vinícius Oliveira

it’s not reveled in any moment, but there’s a single page between chapters in the manga that suggests the three souls gathered to create panda are from gakuganji’ children. it shows him in front of three graves

Sonja Seren

Also the scene with Yuji and Hakari was rotoscoped and acted out by the Director and Episode Director so they could get just the right energy for the interaction.

Seryu Ubiquitous

and the jjk cycle of trauma and fun goes on. one more really sad death and also so absolutly unnecessary. pandas reaction really hit me. and then of course we get to this hillarious mockbattle between panda and yuji. classic Rollercoaster ride of emotions. also nice to finally meet kirara. i really like her both her character and here technique. cant wait for next episode.

Anonlou

"Who's Gojo?" - Sorceror who crumbles the plan immediately

Bowsber

Kirara is such a cutie and a really great trans representation, especially considering the anti-conservative and nonconformist themes of the show (this season so far especially with last episode as well!) Japan is generally pretty damn transphobic, so I think it is extremely cool of Gege to include her and have her date someone SO clearly masculine and straight-coded too. I'm also pretty convinced her VAs in both Japanese and English have superpowers - her Japanese VA is male with ridiculous range, I think this is his first explicitly feminine role and his voice just fits Kirara incredibly. In the English dub though, Kayleigh McKee voices not only Kirara, but also Yuta and even bloody JINICHI ZENIN. The level of range people who've voice trained can achieve is straight up magic to me.

Jack

Kirara's sex and gender identity are not confirmed. It's constantly debated if Kiara is a femboy, a female, or trans, and I think all 3 views have strong evidence to support them. For the femboy theory, Panda straight up calls Kirara a guy, and Kirara dresses in feminine clothes. However, this is the only time gender is ever used to describe them; after this, Gege always uses gender-neutral pronouns. (Megumi also calls them a guy, but he has never met Kirara and is just going off of what Panda said.) For the trans theory, this also hinges on the above explanation but also on the fact that Kirara used to have short hair, which people see as evidence of transitioning. For the female theory, the argument is that Kirara was always a female, and Kirara just had short hair when Kirara was younger because Kirara was a tomboy, which confused Panda into thinking Kirara was male. Additionally, Hikai is implied to be straight and that Kirara stopped being a tomboy and became more feminine to attract Hikari. (Then again, we don't know Hikari's opinion on if dating a trans woman would be straight or gay) People also use that Kirara was disliked by the higher-ups as evidence of Kirara being trans, but Kirara being a femboy or a tomboy are also reasons the ultra conservatives would not like Kirara. Personally, I'm in the Kirara being a girl camp, because I think the V shape on the coat in the junior high picture is showcasing a bustline, which men do not have, nor is any male in the series shown to have that either.

evelynnreact

Kirara is a trans woman or a cross dresser I don't remember but it's not a spoiler it's not said directly in the manga just by a gege comment or by noticing her as a guy when she was in jujutsu high in a panel

David Jonsson

There could not be a better candidate for a fight club than Yuji Itadori aka Mr. Left-Right-GoodNight but if I got emoted on like that after getting beaten I would never show my face in public again 😅 And the ending makes me laugh every time. Was like a basketball fan asking "Who's Lebron"

Amy

Gege apologising to queer women after killing off his sapphic character last episode by introducing a trans woman in the next.

Ebraheem

that last scene is completely rotoscoped and its an accurate reenactment of what happens when a mappa animator asks for a lunch break

Charlie

People clown on yuji here but if you were a newer realized sorceror with no ties to jujutsu high, I'm not sure why you would know gojo at yujis age. Like you wouldnt expect someone like junpei to instantly know of gojos reputation when the shockwave of his birth across jujutsu society happened like a decade before he was born. Like unless you walked in the orbit if the three families, jujutsu tech, or the underworld of jujutsu society then you probably wouldn't really be all that in the know about gojo.

SoonerJay

It’s deeply upsetting that the only meaning given to Hakari’s suspension in the manga is “clashing with the upper brass”, because while the manga doesn’t reveal exactly why he got suspended, it is revealed via a volume extra. It’s annoying because it’s something that feels rather crucial to the character of Hakari and it’s impossible to learn via watching or reading the source material normally. If you do want to know, Hakari was present during the events of the night parade in jjk 0, during said events he essentially beat the piss out of a higher up. It’s a big statement on his character as rather than just arguing with the higher ups and having conflict with them like Gojo or Yuji, Hakari actually took action and beat the shit out of one, actually standing up for himself and fighting the system.
