the bit with the wig kills me each time😭 loved your discussion about the crows symbolism, it’s so fitting!! and i really appreciate you giving kageyama some grace too :))) i see too many people box him in as just a one dimensional rude/arrogant guy here, but he’s still just a high school kid who like you said has a good heart but highkey sucks at communicating (and obv he seems very stressed and intense which worsens stuff) !!!

I love seeing Daichi know his players so well and just what he needs to say to get Tanaka along with his plan. In just a few interactions they've really started to established the personalities of the older students. Tanaka is hilarious right of the gate and wanting to play up the senpai role kills me.

Fun fact. Kageyama was the first Haikyuu character the author created. In the prototype one shot that eventually became Haikyuu, he was the main character, Hinata was a reluctant recruit and Tanaka was a bully. I love seeing how much these characters changed in the final version.

The names of the characters have a lot of meaning: Hinata's first name, Shoyo means "flying sun", and his last name, Hinata means "towards the sun". And Kageyama's first name, Tobio means "flying hero", and his last name, Kageyama means "shadow mountain". Daichi's first name, Daichi means "great land/earth", and his last name, Sawamura means "village of the swamp". Suga's first name, Koshi, means "supportive filial piety", and his last name, Sugawara means "original reed field". Tanaka's first name, Ryunosuke, means "son of the dragon", and his last name, Tanaka means "middle of the rice field".

IT HAS BEGUN 😍 Love your analysis about crows, as someone said already, part of the name in Karosuno means “crow” so very symbolic indeed for this team. Lots of names in this series have meanings that ties in with the character/place/etc. I don’t speak Japanese so hopefully some people will point these out to you when they show up. Love your thoughts already on Kageyama! I don’t think you were misinterpreting his words at all from episode 1. He seems to be impressed with Hinatas raw athleticism and passion, and he shows him respect as an opponent. “What were you doing for the last three years” cause how on earth has Kageyama not seen him at all in middle school before that one match. Kinda reads as “where have you been all my life” 😂 Kageyamas impressed, but, he also thinks Hinata is not rising to his potential, which frustrates him, and he’s not quiet about that fact 😂 And now it’s different when you have to work with that same person as a teammate. Now he has to actually deal with Hinatas weaknesses and he doesn’t seem like the type to have patience for that lol. (Kindof like how not all friends can/should be roommates cause it would ruin the friendship). like you said, not Hinatas fault, he literally started from ground zero and didn’t even have a team until now. Kageyama is honest, but is abrasive and has an ego issue. Hinata acts and speaks first without thinking, and ALSO needs to learn how to be on a proper team. They’re both so passionate, and both SO stubborn 😂 let’s see if they can figure it out Also, you’re already learning volleyball terms so quickly! It honestly took me awhile to understand the terms and positions. I guess I also felt just like Hinata, super new to volleyball.

I take this opportunity to say i absolutely love your reactions and discussions and you have no idea how happy it makes me to see you've started this journey. This is my absolute comfort show and n° 1 anime (personal top 3 being Haikyuu, AOT and Banana fish). I don't know how to explain but i have yet to find another piece of media that could give me the same feeling. Never gets old seeing other people falling in love with it.
