The Greatest Showman 2017 FULL REACTION

Comments

Ninaofthe90s

I definitely recommend La La Land, Les Miserables, Hamilton, Sweeney Todd and Moulin Rouge.

Shut Up Meg

hugh jackman is a great singer and performer hes no stranger to theatre and broadway. u should watch him in the movie les miserables its one of my absolute faves and one of the best musicals out there

Kim Magee

This is based around the real life PT Barnum circus which was called the greatest show on Earth and eventually became the Barnum and Bailey Circus and they joined the Ringling Brothers circus, But PT Barnum was real. Charity was real, and many of the performers were real as they started off by having what was called the sideshow circus which had the characters that you see in the movie. There's actually real life photos of those characters

blorgins

Never seen this one but its been on my list for a while. Its finally time!

Kim Magee

And the woman who played charity is Michelle Williams. She was in venom and she was also genuinely from Dawson's creek and she was married in real life to heath Ledger. They have a daughter together. Matilda

Jenny Lee Villanueva

Moulin Rouge!!! 💜 I also love Hair, Chicago, Rent and Rocky Horror Picture Show

Ninaofthe90s

yes all of them are great as well ❤

Goldcrusty

Great reaction as always! I always did wonder if you guys would like this one or not. I know this sounds evil but I am glad you cried Rob 😂

Kim Magee

Oh my God the rocky horror would be so funny to watch them react to

CardboardSpoon

Great film, and to assure your ending concerns, I would absolutely love more reactions to musicals! Definitely worth looking out for :)

Leah B

The songs in this musical are great. I’m pretty sure it’s all original music.

Angelina Sargent

So zandaya did a bunch of her stunts... there's some pretty amazing videos of the behind the scenes of her and Zac Efron trying to film the trapeze song they did in the movie... haha it's so funny. They kept flying into each other and head butting each other. There's also a few behind the scenes videos of most of the cast trying convince the producers to take on the musical with them performing the songs and stuff for the big wigs to show them why they should make the movie... hugh Jackman showed up but had just had surgery on his nose to remove some cancer and he wasn't supposed to sing for them all and literally took over his understudy and started belting out the songs all while he ripped open his stitches doing it. I'll post the links if anyone wants to watch it on YouTube but it is so interesting to watch the behind the scenes for this movie. The songs are already amazing and to see the cast get it into so hard during a practice/audition type scenario is probably the reason they gave the green light for this movie.

Bradley Weeks

I'm so glad we got our first musical on the channel. I'm holding on to hope that we will get Hamilton some time. I really think you both will enjoy it. Little Shop of Horrors would be a fun one too.

Bradley Weeks

Hamilton would be awesome! I like to crank the surround sound up while I clean my house. Makes the work more enjoyable.

Ae Jae

Definitely Zendaya doing her own stuff (: she learned trapeze for this role

Jenny Lee Villanueva

Yes, we wish for more musicals, would be down for a musical genre month 🫶🏾

Jordan Tanner

Now y'all need to watch Hugh Jackman's good musical (😉), Les Misérables.

Michael Celia

Growing up in music and around theater, guys like Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron always make me re-evaluate my life: gorgeous and can sing and dance...I'm hardly the first, can barely do the second and definitely can't do the third. The modern songs and choreography combined with the period setting were weird at first, but it worked I think because the production design is more a heightened fantasy. Plus all the little editing flourishes were well done. I'm glad Rob and Trin have taken a foray into movie musicals and I look forward to possibly seeing more in the future.

ABG

There are short videos on YouTube from the script readthrough with the cast and producers. They sing This Is Me and From Now On. It’s even more fun to watch the movie when you know this back story and how excited they were to make this movie. https://youtu.be/6-CCxYR80mU?si=qUaSCaH4uDrWfZxG https://youtu.be/i-e8ZJBzw8Y?si=ZVJIDtM4pmsbC7bG And the performances are really amazing. Especially Hugh. You can see how dedicated he was when he just couldn’t stand back and he started singing. He really is amazing.

CuteLiLRN

Fun reaction! My husband’s friend, who he grew up with, Justin Paul, actually co-wrote the music and songs for this movie (along with La La Land, and the Broadway show Dear Evan Hansen); It is a musical based on a real person. P.T. Barnum, who founded the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. It is the most famous American traveling circus company, billed as The Greatest Show on Earth.

Mitch

They were not married you're confusing "real life" with Brokeback Mountain

Kim Magee

I hope they do as you jackman said himself on TV show Rove live The musicals always do well. And yet they still don't get the appreciation And they really should be more and I agree. They do such great jobs of these films, The story of this movie is very heart felt, And it's hard to imagine a life where people thought it was OK to go and look at a circus freak. And not worry about how they felt guaranteed. The reality was near happy as this, But didn't give people that could not get work Otherwise a way of having an income and Even a family or place where they belonged

Kim Magee

I think both are very good

Kim Magee

They are and the guys that did most of them. They had to submit a song for each part. And they won i think all of songs they submitted against others and most of their songs were written on a plane, going somewhere or overnight. They just have a real big talent, They also did la la land

Kim Magee

OK? So they were together and had a daughter is it different really? Where I come from that is a defacto marriage, And seeing Heath Ledger was also Australian. They were married

Mitch

Where you're from not pulling out means you're married? That's wild but uh anyway nah they didn't marry and broke up some time before he passed. If you see Matilda tho let her know her folks were married (according to you) I hate to think everyone's been lying to her about it (according to you)

Vonnie Stewart

Hamilton, Sweeney Todd, rent, Dreamgirls… There are so many amazing musicals that you need to see

Alyssa Dyson

Rob is killin me with the Zendaya sarcasm...she would probably be number 2 on my hall pass lmao 🤣

Octavia

Much love for Chicago... as close to a perfect movie musical adaptation as you can get.

Kim Magee

What country do you come from? Is it common law marriage? But seriously who even cares whether they were married or together they had a daughter they were together 2 years. Who cares

Kim Magee

There is actually a lot in this film that is true like going to Buckingham palace and Jenny Lind performing in America for his company

Octavia

Ths is a very shiny take on PT Barnum. Who was a crafty showman... who really knew how to creatively fool folks. But it's Hugh Jackman, it's fun and the music is rousing. And I've got to tip my hat to the real PT Barnum for the genius ploy that was 'this way to the egress'.

Kim Magee

They are incredible! Songwriters from what I heard, they got the songs written really quickly too because they had to submit songs that would go up against other people to be picked and from what I know they got nearly all of them or all of the songs

Beware The Jabberwock

Still begging for Hamilton over a year later. It’s phenomenal, one of a kind, and it involves The US, France, and England.😉 ❤️🇺🇸🇫🇷🇬🇧

Beware The Jabberwock

Bradley you are my fellow Hamilton dreamer. ❤️Let’s keep this dream alive. 🇺🇸🇬🇧🇫🇷 Rob and Trin- Everyone I have ever seen be skeptical going in were blown away. I was skeptical at first too. It’s so unique - especially because it’s set up MUCH differently than most filmed musicals - in the best way possible.🙏🏻❤️ (No spoilers on the film format please!)

Kim Magee

Yeah my daughter loves Hamilton, I liked it but I had trouble keeping up with the story a bit

Kim Magee

Which literally would be a perfect reaction to see on Rob and trins channel because they usually make the things I'm not sure of more clear

FedeM

Haven't watched yet and I'm about to, but if they loved it as they seem to have from the comments....... Hamilton has to come next!

Kim Magee

I can't see them being willing to do that because not everybody is up for musicals, but would it be a possibility that they could take two genres, put them together and pick the top two from both?

Kim Magee

I read this comment before I watched the reaction and I was waiting for it lol trying to guess when it would happen

Kim Magee

Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron are definitely the triple threat. The looks, the voice, the moves, the acting

Kim Magee

That's more than a triple, isn't it?

Kim Magee

Pretty sure the actress playing Jenny Lind is the one from the Mission. Impossible movies too

Onno Smits

I'm glad you gave a musical a chance despite being apprehensive about the genre. Some modern musical recommendations that I think would be in your guys' wheelhouse in terms of theme/style and production (in alphabetical order): Encanto (2021) In The Heights (2021) La La Land (2016) Moana (2016) I REALLY love Hamilton (2020). It's very different from your "average" movie musical, and I'd love to see your thoughts on it. But it is _non-stop_, so reacting to it is pretty much impossible unless you choose to hit pause every couple of minutes to get your thoughts out before resuming. It's well worth it though! A lot of people I know dislike musicals because they say it takes them out of the story when people just randomly break into songs to convey their emotions. I found a nice stepping stone is movies that have a lot of music in them diegetically. Like School of Rock (2003) which you guys already reacted to. Some modern examples: A Star is Born (2018) August Rush (2007) Begin Again (2013) Hearts Beat Loud (2018) Rudderless (2014) Yesterday (2019)

SYN

I’m on the Hamilton train!

SYN

Also While Jenny linds actress does sing she believed she wouldn’t be able to do it justice so the song is dubbed by a singer named Loren Alred who is probably one of the people Trin saw performing the song on AGT lol

Marinda

Seeing a musical on this channel was a surprise I never knew I needed. Now I suddenly have a great wish for you to watch The sound of music. A classic if there ever was one

Kim Magee

I love that movie. We watched that every year as a kid. It was always on TV at least once

Kim Magee

Moana is my absolute favourite Disney film

Beware The Jabberwock

My Niece loves it — she’s only 12, and so did my mother — who is in her 70s. I feel like that age range covers everyone here. 🥳 😇

Beware The Jabberwock

This movie just shows off now ridiculously talented Jackman is - especially when you compare this to his portrayal of Wolverine. Polar opposites perfection. 🤯😎

Flopsi80

I really don't know if I can watch this because I hate musicals. But I will give it a try.

Bradley Weeks

Rob and Trin. I would love a movie poll for live action musicals. I get that you both were apprehensive about them. There are so many great ones to pick from. I promise we can come up with four that you would really enjoy.

MissKitty

I went to see this in the cinema without any idea what it was about or even the fact it was a musical (although I love musicals). I fell in love so hard that I returned to see it at the the cinema another 4 times taking different groups with me and even the musical-haters loved it. Much like Barnum's circus, this wasn't a hit with critics but is loved by the vast majority of its audience - you can see that in the Rotten Tomatoes ratings!

Lifehouse

Was my first time watching it, thanks for the great watch!

Charlie West

Oh man i'm glad you guys enjoyed this one! If you ever venture into musicals again that are more story driven I would love to see a reaction to Sweeney Todd: The demon barber of fleet street! You can't really go wrong with Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter.

Bradley Weeks

I made a deal with two of my coworkers that I would watch something they wanted me to watch if they would watch Hamilton. They both enjoyed it and I was surprised when one of them quoted it weeks later.

Sean, aka Turd Ferguson

I've not seen this movie yet, so looking forward to a first watch with your first watch reactions.

matteo

im really happy you guys watched this ive been meaning to watch this for awhile because i heard such good things but was skeptical like you guys and im glad it passed my suspicions and it was really good, cant wait for more 🖤🖤

Rick Haydn Horst

Moulin Rouge 2001 would be a great one to try after this.

adam99x

The guy at the beginning that slapped the boy...isn't that the same guy that shot Nandi in Firefly?

Grif Kane

Enjoyed watching this with you guys, I'd really love to see how you feel about Hamilton. I think those two musicals were the biggest ones to come out in a long time, and really broke the mold.

Bradley Weeks

Hamilton is amazing! Hope we can get them to watch it someday.

Célia Boisson

First musical ?? Pleeeeeaaaaase, watch Moulin Rouge !!!!
