I think this is the easiest way to put it: We witness Joel and Clementine’s first relationship unfold in reverse (scene by scene with some scenes from his childhood) as his memories are erased, revealing their emotional journey backward through time. Simultaneously, a second, linear thread shows them meeting again - unknowingly reuniting - just a day after Joel’s memory wipe, which occurred shortly after Clementine had hers. Absolute masterpiece! Thank you so much!

I can’t recall another movie that takes place on Long Island, that’s where I live I actually recognized some of the streets. Long Island has beautiful snowy beaches in the winter it’s really strange to see. Also I do genuinely think Clementine would make a great Ellie in the last of us. Very trippy movie so much happening at once and the scenes are constantly shifting around.

Brilliant. Ultimately, Joel and Clementine decided that, despite where they knew they'd likely end up, the love they had was worth it. Beautiful and so remarkably poignant. What a remarkable mind Kaufman has.
