Apparently this season was only made because of how many people were calling for the show to come back after almost getting canceled. They brought back the producer from seasons 1-3. I’m loving it so far though, these two episodes have been great. I’m so glad to have Mike I hope he’s a regular.

They brought back the creator, Dan Harmon... who they had removed from S4 for a variety of behavioral reasons. Because of that, S4 gets a lot of unnecessary hate. Even though it was actually very enjoyable still.

I didn’t know the creator left for that reason I thought that also had to do with Chevy Chase or issues with the network it was airing on

40C and 80% humidity where I'm at, so I feel your pain. Already done with Summer, and it just started. At least I got R&T to keep me inside in the glorious AC. Also, I would be very much ok with a Rob reaction and Trin rewatch of Scrubs.

Danny Pudi's Nicholas Cage impersonation was spot on...as was Jonathan Banks' Jonathan Banks impersonation...

IIRC it was because he leaked the Chevy Chase answerphone message to him moaning about the show. He'd had it up to his neck with Chevy as had the rest of the cast and he released that and got fired for it, then Chevy left after s4 and they got him back after they realised what a mistake they made. Am not an S4 hater and its fun on the whole, but there was a vibe that S4 was an attempt to mimic S1-3 community but didn't quite get there, even though obv a lot of the writers episode to episode will have been the same, there was something special and Dan Harmon shaped that was missing and fans felt that, and as soon as S5 is back, its there again. E.g. my favourite types of jokes in Community are stuff like Britta in these eps saying 'blaming them for that would be like blaming owls for me being bad at analogies!' or in 2 or 3, I forget which, when Annie was talking about taking a class on writing jokes, 'but I dropped out after the lesson on set ups, my teacher was so old....' - I can't explain it but its types of humour that feel very community and I don't think I've seen anywhere else - i get the feeling Dan Harmon brings a lot of that because I felt a lack of them in S4 and they start dropping like bangers in S5 again.

I’d definitely trade Chevy chase for Dan Harmon. I was reading about that whole situation with him and it’s crazy because now it makes so much sense why he was constantly excluded and just missing from entire episodes. He was genuinely just Pierce on screen and off but at least Pierce wanted to be there

Rob you mentioned phone numbers always begin 555. One of the major reasons for that is when movies or TV shows used phone numbers that began with something else people would actually call the number for fun. The people that actually had those numbers started complaining about all the prank phone calls. No individual or business in the US has a phone number beginning with 555.

Harmon was let go for more than just releasing the Chevy tape. DH is brilliant, but also problematic in his own right. He needed to clean up his act a bit. I kind of understand Chevy's frustration with his role... but zero excuses for his behavior. He never really got the writing style, unfortunately. And was generally petty. I definitely don't think S4 reaches close to the high bar of S1-S3. But compared to most other comedy series... S4 is still really good and still fun. R&T, with no preconceptions, enjoyed it a lot. That's all I hoped for. But, yeah, the creator brings a unique vibe that can't really be duplicated without them.

I think the Nicolas Cage course teacher played a teacher on Community before. We saw him teaching a made-up class if I remember correctly

Exactly I don’t condone Chevy’s behaviour or actions towards certain cast members but I also know Dan Harmon has been called out for being a bit of a womanizer and so he also had his own faults
