What a journey through this franchise! Thank you for these amazing reactions.

While this one has serious plot problems owing to the fact that they're fighting an 'all-knowing' AI..This one also suffers from what should be coined the Stranger Things Collectathon, which is slowly collecting characters that don't serve any purpose but you don't want to kill off, so they just sorta hang around the whole movie\show..And I could also do without that many flashbacks and multiple recaps of things in the beginning..The submarine and airplane sequences though are stellar.. My order of the franchise, best to worst: 6, 1, 4, 5, 3, 7, 8, 2

Interesting that you would say that when literally everyone in Stranger Things had a purpose to serve But otherwise, please, do tell me which characters in Stranger Things especially didn't serve a purpose and just sorta hung around?

(Spoiler for ending) Everyone got a 'happy' ending..They couldn't get rid of any character.. Half of those people needed to be removed from the show, instead the Duffers kept adding in more characters..Yes, they 'gave them something to do' but Joyce does so little in Season 5, that they decided to let her kill the big bad guy, but it's such an after thought..Hopper should have stayed dead..Lucas just plays 'Running up that hill' on repeat..Giving a character a 'small task' so they don't feel completely pointless, doesn't make that character a 'useful character'..If Dustin had showed up at the beginning of their looking for Vecna in the first episode, then what exactly was there for Jonathan to do? (There's a whole host of more serious problems with Stranger Things writing, so characters just finding useless tasks to do to try to justify their involvement is really the least of their worries) But if you notice that the team in MI8 just keeps growing but the characters had already served their purpose and needed to just go away..Degas is just a red herring at the end to make you think he's going to sacrifice himself, but then, hey he's just ok in the end..Dunloe just 'knows' how to disarm a nuclear bomb and wifey just hanging out for moral support I guess? Paris doesn't even get her revenge on Gabriel and does help Dunn out after he gets shot, but she is pretty useless the rest of the movie..Everyone in the Presidential 'should we nuke our own city' plotline is useless and that whole arc should be trashed..The script is bloated..Watch Rogue Nation and Fallout and see how much tighter those scripts are compared to 7 and 8..

I find it interesting that in all of that, you never give me a single direct answer to my very straight-forward and direct question. Just this simple :'They should ahve gotten rid of characters." where people think that killing a character just for killing's sake, is somehow good storytelling, instead of single-handedly THE lamest, laziest and worst form of storytelling, is just weird. And then always when you tell them for a direct example, it's just a jumble of grasping at straws instead of a single straight-up answer. Joyce killing Vecna makes a whole lot of sense after what he put her through with Will repeatedly, that's poetic, it's not an after thought. Lucas keeps faith and of course he spends most of his time with the person he loves by their bedside, who wouldn't? And after that, he is there on the frontline fighting. And don't get me started about Jonathan, because in my opinion he is single-handedly the worst and most useless character from the very beginning in the show already. When the most interesting thing about your character, was the fact that you were a pervert creep that took pictures from people without their permission, you know your character is jsut bad. And yet, even he still has his purpose, to support his younger brother, to get to terms with both Nancy and Steve, to be there on the frontline again. See? ACTUAL examples, instead of very subjective takes that didn't have anything to do whatsoever with my straightforward question. And in MIB, plenty of characters that did serve their purpose, were written out, just look at Jeremy Renner's character, and plenty of others. Characters were killed off, including in last movie, so what more should they have done? Just lock a bunch of them up in a room and killed them just because you think it's too many? Just write them off, because you can only deal with a certain amount of characters? Paris does serve a purpose, her entire story IS the fact that there is more than her blind vengeance on Gabriel, that she has a new team with Hunt and the others. And yes, the whole point of the characters with the President, is them being useless and desperate, and even there, one of them sacrifices himself because he's not just a blind followers of 'oh we have an issue, let's just boom them, yippikayee!" I'm sorry, but you actively complain about things that are specific character grwoth moments, where someone realizing the futility and stupidity of blind vengeance, is a bad thing somehow? So again, can you give me specific characters that were useless and just kinda standing there and hanging out, that was your whole point for Stranger Things?

I answered your question, so I don't know why you're going on some useless shpiel about this still.. I didn't say you can't like Stranger Things..It's ok to enjoy garbage if you want to..There's no need to go on a hissy fit about it..I apologize if I insulted your garbage.. There is a way to have a character fulfill their purpose and then be left behind to not be seen again..The viewer can then infer that they had a happy ending or whatever they want..Having a bunch of characters hanging out all movie with little to nothing to do is just extra baggage in a script..They're not really needed to get the job done..(Dunloe and wifey should have left the movie after the submarine\ice sequence.. Good characters have an actual specific role that they are fulfilling..I have no problem with the underlying story of Paris' character..The problem is that her character is so under-utitlized in the film that she becomes a useless character just hanging around..She's a fighter who wants to kill Gabriel for betraying her and trying to kill her..That's her whole character..Fighting some Russians for a scene and shooting a gun in another doesn't justify her being there for most of the movie..Then in the end she does some 'field surgery' on Dunn, and making reference that she would be a good 'doctor' because she's good at killing people is great..But that's still not really enough to qualify her as a useful character.. they should have given her something more than that..If they got rid of the useless nuclear weapons arc, they could've added something more to her character growth..(Mission Impossible has always been about Hunt and his team, not some politician big-picture decision making stuff..It can still be happening but only in the far background) Dunn is the comedy relief\hacker\Hunt's trusted wingman..And even he feels a little useless in this movie..Luther is killed off to add more emotional stakes to the film, no problem with him at all..Grace is thankfully not running away from Ethan all movie again, and has actually skills that are helpful to the plot multiple times..Degas is a totally useless character, I don't know why he is tagging along all movie except that he was one of the antagonists in the last movie and I guess they thought it'd be weird feeling if he disappeared in the middle of this one? I think it would've been better if he had scarificed himself, but nope, he's A-OK at the end too..What did he do besides not call in to his superiors that Hunt was breaking Paris out of jail? Yeah, he has a somewhat interesting potential backstory that they merely just hinted at in 7, that he was beginning to question why he was hunting Hunt, but that doesn't really get explored at all..Get rid of the nuclear arc and we'd have more time to actually learn about him.. (Renner was busy in the MCU, being injured by a snowplow, and in a TV show) (Ferguson didn't want to come back again, so they killed her in 7) (The team usually was different every movie except for Luther and eventually Dunn, so characters disappearing and not coming back was a normal thing) The extra fluff in Final Reckoning just drags the movie down and makes rewatches far more annoying..(I doubt you really need a 30 minute recap of the series everytime you watch this movie)..The President should've been a much smaller side character and I could've done without the whole nuclear weapons arc..I know why it's in the movie, I FEEL like it's not needed and just adds in extra bloat..I skip those scenes because I find them tedious, boring, and very predicatable, and was very bored during those scenes in the theater..But that's MY PERSONAL PREFERECE..If you enjoyed that arc, good for you.. Now, I'm not interested in nor have time to educate you on all the nuances of writing useful and actually pertinent characters in stories and from your most recent comment, it's obvious that you will not pay attention to anything I say and have already said, and your mind will not be swayed by anything further that I say..So, please keep in mind this is just a brief TED talk..I could use up the character amount of this comment box if I had time or inclination.. I was merely pointing out my opinions on the film at hand, and I answered your question as to why we should call it Stranger Things Collectathon, you can totally disagree with me on my opinion.. If you'd like a very detailed version of my problems with Stranger Things, I can direct you to multiple hours upon hours of Youtube critique of the show, where they explain things far better than I ever could.. Respectfully, good day..

MSephiroth

I asked for your opinion, since you're the one that brought it up, not a YouTube video that apparently talked you into have that opinion then? Since when I ask for your opinion, you direct me to that, rather than explaining it yourself? Seriously, you say you answered my question, but you keep going into entirely other things. Again, my very simple straightforward question was: "Tell me the character that was kinda just hanging out and completely useless, as your oroginal colaim was. I also went into all the other things that you said before, all I've been trying to point ous is that I asked ONE direct question, and you did anything but directly answer that. But most of the critique from those whiney YouTubers that you are referring to, are from people with TikTok brain, that didn't actually pay attention, taht are shocked by the fact that Will was gay, how am I supposed to take that stupidity from those people seriously. How do you? Anyway, I'm sorry, I really did not mean any disrespect, it was just a simple question from curiosity. But since that's impossible, and apparently offensive. Good day to you as well then.
