i also watched this episode w no knowledge of psychoville, but i find it a really fun episode. had some genuinely creepy moments, some very funny moments (love the dance scenes) & some horror easter eggs. like, how maureens head was in a hole in the wall, hidden behind a specifically rita hayworth poster, like the hole in the shawshank redemption story by stephen king.

i think beattie was also being heavily influenced by the ghost of maureen (kind of like how david was w the baby). maureen wanted her son to join her and used beattie, who was already vulnerable due to the stress of the situation n probs lack of sleep, to get her end. at least, that was always how i saw it

i would also highly recommend watching the league of gentlemen!! wether that be after in9 or alongside, but its really fun. almost all the characters are played by shearsmith, pemberton & mark gatiss, and it was written by them + jeremy dyson (the league of gentlemen is their comedy troupe name) (sorry for all the comments in a row)
