Oh, it happened, it’s just that alternate universe collapsed when Donna sacrificed her life to force herself to make the “correct” decision, which interrupted the beetle’s ability to consume her potential. And in that temporary universe I don’t think everyone else could SEE a bug clinging to her, they just felt a sense of wrongness, that’s why they only ever said “something”. Only we as the audience could see. (And yes, there would be a little more context if you were watching The Sarah Jane Adventures.)

No the master stuff never happened in this alternate timeline because if the Doctor died in the Runaway Bride then he never travelled with Martha to the year 100 trillion in the Utopia episode and so the Master never got to present day Earth.

Rose was grieving the Doctor's death throughout her time jumps in this episode. She by no means knew whether what they were doing was going to work. Even if it did work, the Rose in this episode may never know that, as her timeline may be reset.
