Oops o accidentally commented before finishing my thoughts, basically the first few pages you read I thought you were a bit harsh on her but every new page I started to understand your frustration with this book lmao she’s insufferable the sperm thing, her not using contraceptives as a twenty year old etc etc im pretty sure there’s a line in there somewhere that o read in a comment that said she thought about having contracted aids but that would’ve been something he atleast left her with like HUHHH 48 years old saying anything to fill the pages I guess 😭 anyways….hopefully one day I can read the material beforehand and join a live 🙃 edit: finished the live, final thoughts: no self respecting woman should be behaving this way no matter what age but it was kinda fun to read ngl lol now if this was instead written by a man who acts just like Annie I might have a different opinion atleast that’s something new…. Also I have something to recommend for the lit club but idk if you’d be interested or it’s a text that’s already familiar to you but I recently read this essay by audre lorde titled “uses of the erotic: the erotic as power” and I thought it was really interesting because she uses the word erotic beyond the sexual and she makes a distinction between the pornographic and the erotic (pornography is for men to look at and objectify the female body, eroticism is basically intuitively living your life, like actually paying attention to what youre doing and enjoying it, dancing for yourself rather than for performance for male eyes etc etc idk if im explaining it well enough but I always feel like (western and religious in general) women are afraid of their own sexuality unless it is tied to a man or a man is the one “unlocking it” for you or whatever (Taylor swifts wood lyrics) instead of seeing it as apart of themselves, something that doesn’t need to be performed for the world to be valid (sex work but even the Sabrina carpenter cover made me think of this too like why are we degrading ourselves to “feel sexual” ? Or why this compulsory need in our society to be seen as attractive through performative sexuality, anyways thanks for the fun episode 💫
