I love rin shima and laid back camp!

Zach Folkman

I've seen every episode of this so far and it's so nice to have a show that is 100% guaranteed good vibes every time you watch.

I think One Republic didn’t just licence the song for it, I believe it was specifically for the show. I was sure that’s what I’d read previously but articles I can find now are a bit more vague: https://comicbook.com/anime/amp/news/kaiju-no-8-one-republic-theme-preview/ Either way, they’ve leant into it more than most and it’s been framed as collaborative/partnership! And YoungBlud doing the opening is one of ours I believe (a bloomin’ Brit, ain’t he?) I love a western song popping up in anime.. Oasis in Eden of The East, Radiohead in Ergo Proxy, and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure often does for it’s ED’s - like Yes, The Bangles, Jodeci, etc

I’ve never been so bored by a show haha. Also, question for heather: I’m very much not a camping person but I’ve got a thing for somebody who loves camping and the Japanese camping supplies have piqued my interest. Can you recommend any starter items or brands?

J0hn

541 pieces, fisher tiger is the fucking man.

I recently acquired the Evangelion Platinum Collection without breaking the bank (Frankensteined together from two small eBay orders), so now I am finally watching the show as intended: ending with Fly Me to the Moon! I’ve also been relistening to the early episodes of the pod as I watch, and Heather’s incredible passion and knowledge for this series reeaaally makes me hope y’all cover Revolutionary Girl Utena sometime soon!

I had a really good laugh thinking about young Ranch at Disney looking up in horror and yelling "It's puke!". So far I'm happy that the RNG has been kind to y'all, but I would really like one absolute stinker this month just so we get the full AniMAYhem experience. Can't wait for next week, y'all are the best!

I’m ecstatic that the anime gods somehow brought this show Heather’s attention. When she was talking about getting in to camping last week I wanted so bad to somehow recommend this show to her but I was afraid because of the lack of dismemberment, it might not wind up being for her. My wife and I have watched this show for years and she owns a bunch of figures and statues and we consider it one of our favorites to watch together. I’m abosultely loving AniMAYhem! (Here’s a link to some pics of my wife’s collection of Yuru Camp stuff https://imgur.com/a/1LN2iTW)

Wow- was not expecting HAC to feel incepted by covid and final fantasy- but here we are- and I love it

Laid Back Camp is truly an all-time favorite of mine, it’s actually the show that got me into watching seasonal anime! i enjoyed tuning in every week so much that i had to start doing it with other shows. it’s my go-to show if i just need to chill out. my icon for Discord is even from Laid Back Camp! re: the covid stuff, the manga started in 2015 and the anime started in 2018, so it wasn’t the inception of the idea. but i wouldn’t be surprised if there were an uptick in popularity for the show after covid either, if only for the fact that it’s basically an anxiety pill in TV format. also, the show changed production studios for season 3, and there was a noticeable dip in the animation quality, but i was able to get used to it fairly quickly. in general, i think you unfortunately landed on maybe the weakest episode of the series? but hopefully Heather will enjoy watching from the beginning!

I'm literally making sausage right now while watching along with the pod (traditional Cajun sausage called boudin {pronounced boo-dahn} )

Sewing Savage

I'm getting my katamari tattoo next month. Miso rolling a cow print katamari.

Michael Pemulis

I liked the relaxed vibe of this show, but, I think, if I was tasked to watch the entire series, it would gently fade from my mind and, like Tom Bombadil, I'd lose track and forget about it after a few episodes. More interesting than any scene in Dune 2, though.

With how Ani-Mayhem is going, I half expect the gang to land on an anime about a horny grandma and her adventures in the Pleasure Palace retirement home - season five, episode 17 - "The Bedpost's Final Notch."

Rin Manzano

Ani-MAY-Hem is such a blast and is such an anime sampler plate. Once the month is over, this format could serve as fantastic one-off episodes between series, in addition to your other one-off formats.

corndog

the gang has had these 2 weeks too easy. i hope the next anime they get is berserk

Delia

lol, this format is great. Sweet, slice-of-life anime shows are some of my favorites but they’re not super conducive to discussing in a watch along show, so it’s awesome to hear you guys sample an episode at random. I’ve only watched a few episodes of Laid Back Camp but this really makes me want to catch up on it!

Valencia A. Lopez

I started watching Rakugo because of last week's episode and now I'm probably gonna start watching this with my kids cuz it sounds so cute and nice. A departure from what we usually watch 🤣

Seth Bullocks

Glad to see you guys are finally tackling Yuru Camp! I may have suggested this anime in the past, knowing Heather's love of camping(was it the Coleman lamp from Final Fantasy XV that Heather bought?). I've only seen 1 season, but this show is so comforting and cozy to watch. Can't find a source of the Japanese government sponsoring this show, but here's an article titled "Yamanashi Prefecture Sees Spike in Tourism Earnings Thanks to Laid-Back Camp" https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2019-02-27/yamanashi-prefecture-sees-spike-in-tourism-earnings-thanks-to-laid-back-camp/.143979

What about AniSAYhem as a wrap up segment 👀

Mathew Quitney

Nick you’ve just gotten really lucky because I go to at least one movie a week and people have gotten SO much worse. Non stop talking and phones out

clearplastichuman

i found myself zone out and googling tents and grills and fantasizing about camping in my dads tiled backyard edit - nvm

Spudowski

I'm so excited for Matt to get into Demon Slayer! Every fight in that series gets my nipples ROCK HARD.

Sexy Grandma's Retirement Home

When I heard the anime that got picked I just knew my comment from last week was going to get read. And let me tell you, I couldn't have imagined a better reaction! 🤣 I was honestly as shocked as all you were. To give the backstory on the username: Another podcast I listen to - SquareRoots if you're curious - had a character called Sexy Grandma in their early episodes. As you all discovered through your spot on impersonations, Sexy Grandma can be. . . problematic. As such, they later decided to retire her from the show, hence the name. To thank their patrons they read a handful of their names at the end of each show. This way, whenever my name comes up, it sounds like they are thanking the retirement home they sent Sexy Grandma to. I am not a time traveler, but I am starting to wonder if I've unlocked a psychic ability to predict the future. As a test, I'm predicting next week's episode is going to be from the fanservice filled harem show High School DxD. If I somehow manage to nail it again I'm immediately going to buy a Powerball ticket.

Zack Tennenhouse

Hearing Heather so wildly excited about the very concept of camping has made my week. Absolutely delightful. Laid Back Camp could be 36 episodes of that little dog in different coats and I'd be thrilled.

Patrick M.

Heather going from “this is the best anime ever” to “okay, now I’m bored” within two minutes is the most Heather thing she has ever said.

Notrock

Watching this Laid Back Camp episode was probably the most straightforward example I can think of where I instantly understood the appeal of the show and realized it's not my scene just as fast. Despite having no interest in what it's doing, I can tell it's doing it very well

MosDeef

Sexy Grandma needs to meet the Resident Evil Merchant. Also, I only realised midway through my hamburg lunch that Wiger had planted the idea in my head. As part of my new "get Nick and Matt to come to Japan" here's a picture of it https://imgur.com/a/xiI3MAc

eat the electric rat ash you can do it

look I know you guys take pride in the most fan-beloved part of the show where you get to make up a silly pun, but I do want to ret-con this week's addition to animay-AHEM. in regards to sneaky theater food, I am often deemed the snack mule (I'm in a wheelchair) and carry a "medical backpack" around with me at all times that hangs on the back of my chair. ain't no minimum wage 16 year-old AMC employee going to be stopping a disabled person to ask what's in my bag. that thing is CHOCK full of chipotle burritos baby sexy grandma 4 lyfe get that elder weenslayer on birth control!! she's TOO fertile

Big Chunk of the fanbase

How heather describes Kaiju no 8 is exactly how I feel, it feels like I thought it would when reading the manga, maybe that means it’s so stereotypical of anime that they can carbon copy our expectations, but it’s so freaking good regardless

Big Chunk of the fanbase

Also would love to see a evangelion series but there’s a random 32 year old in there and everyone just fucking hates them

Brandon Shaffner

Please cover Frieren babes, youll all love it

Have you all watched Delicious In Dungeon yet? On episode 2 of Animaham, the way you seemed to enjoy the camp cooking scene made me think you would absolutely adore Delicious in Dungeon. Not only does it have Studio Ghibli quality cooking segments in every episode, it also hits the anime drama and action notes perfectly, with amazing character backstories and complicated antagonists with good reasons for being that way. But it also has this truly unique video gamey setting in a dungeon ecosystem where everything is explainable and justified, even down to the “organic” procedural generation that makes the dungeon layout change over time. I beg… beg… BEG you to consider it for get anime’d!

Laid Back Camp is definitely my mental health cleanse show now, I’m so glad to know it exists. The Animal Crossing of anime, like a cozy warm blanket
