I love shows that are about a specific niche hobby or activity, and where the MC wants to learn more and get better at that specific thing. It's such a simple premise but it can be executed at a high level -- like Chihayafuru.

Instead of shouting “Action!” Clint Eastwood waves his hand and mumbles “Well, let’s go.” Apparently when he was making Westerns the horses would get spooked if the director did the full on Action yell, so they needed to be low key and Clint has kept that habit going.

I started watching this show in the summer of 2020 and it was the high point of a very stressful time. Hearing the theme song again brought on a wave of (positive) emotions and I may be due for a full rewatch

I started watching this anime with my best friend after Heather raved about it forever and a day ago. I even bought a book of the Hyakuin Isshu so I could read the poems because they were so beautiful. I got an edition of the book with the original Japanese included for each poem and it's stunning. The name of the Carpenter you are looking for is Karen Carpenter. Fun fact, I grew up listening to her Christmas album and my Aunt Karen worked as a radio DJ for awhile so I was completely convinced that my aunt was Karen Carpenter for a good portion of my childhood. They even had the same hairstyle! 😂❤️

I also took a poetry course in college and had a professor who said some weird stuff to me. I was told I shouldn’t have received such a high grade. The grading was skewed and I did extra credit which bumped my grade up significantly. The professor did not like that and changed the grading after that.

I was not drawn in by the first episode but will watch more. Plus I watched it while I'm getting hot and heavy in DanDaDan and they reference karuta and I'm glad to understand it. Otherwise it may have been something I would've just let go over my head.

This may be a bit of projection, but was absolutely not expecting a tender and incredibly well-executed story about neurodivergence, friendship, and obsessive hobbies. I was surprisingly choked up by the end of the ep. Incredible pull, HAC. Thank you!

I've been watching Gurren Lagann, I'm almost half way through since it was introduced to me last week. This show is psychotic. At this point they are moving around in a walking aircraft carrier mech where the whole landing deck looks like the mechs huge weiner. Compared to Studio Triggers next show this is relatively tame, but it is doing a lot for the robo-sexuals out there. I do see a lot of resemblance between the Gunmen and the Kamui from Kill la Kill. One ladies Gunman even had boob-eyes. After re-reading all of this I'm reconsidering my patreon having my name attached.

This show is so authentic and painstaking in how it brings to life these people and this sport. Really brilliant. The ending theme gets me to tear up every time it comes on, not out of sadness, but out of some weird swell of love for human passion.

A bit late on making comments for this one but my wife and I watched the first episode a day or so after listening to this episode. We have since watched all 3 seasons of this series and loved it. Great recommendation!
