Loved this, I can definitely see me finishing the series!

Absolutely love the original Kino’s Journey. It sent me down the rabbit hole of the “traveler genre” in anime, like Elaina the traveling witch and Girls’ Last Tour. Definitely a genre that puts different aspects of humanity on display, making you feel both hope and dread every episode.

I've felt compelled to own a few anime series and movies, on blu-ray. After watching the pilot of Kino's Journey, I immediately added it to my collection.

The original 2003 Kino's Journey was one of may favorites since beginning to watch anime fansubs in 2001. I didn't find anything particularly wrong with the 2017 version. It got me back into anime after a bit of a hiatus. If I remember correctly it (mostly) adapts different stories.

This has real Adventure Time and also Mushishi vibes. I’ll have to check it out.

I watched the 2017 pilot by accident and found absolutely nothing to like about it, but this sounds INCREDIBLE. I was considering a HiDive sub just to check it out, but then I found a copy of the DVD for less than $20 on eBay so I'm in!

Y’all made Kino sound awesome and now I’m going to have to track down this 2003 version and give it a try

Heather seems like such a considerate friend to have (on how she had the dvd boxset ready and picked the anime bcus Wigeman would like it. And not to forget getting him the PS5) very heartwarming to see!

Was great to revisit Kino’s Journey and hear Heather’s passion for it! Self-contained/Episodic series like this were definitely a big part of my anime fandom in the 2000’s, stuff like this, Mushishi, then Natsume’s Book of Friends a few years later… the latter especially being a favourite I still follow to this day. Now that I think about it, perhaps more than episodic nature of them, it’s the melancholy that so often emerges, that appeals to me. The sense of dropping into /someone’s story, not always resolving it, and moving along afterwards, knowing that things will continue along once your protagonist has long gone. I just find it a really appealing narrative device that allows creative ways to get you up to speed quickly, get a glimpse of something, and have to imagine the full implications a lot of the time.

I watched the second episode this morning and I'm so hooked.

This shit is Heather's shit, and now it's my shit! What do these other towns have in store? Im 'bout to find out!

When you talked about eating cactus, it reminded me of when I attempted to do that very thing as a kid. I had recently tried it and loved it, so when I came upon it in the wild, I thought I had found a tasty treat! I pulled off all the exterior spines and bit right in. Turns out there are a bunch of tiny spines just below the surface. Oops! Definitely not the snack I was hoping for.

i think it would be cool if you continued to do the pilot program but for the first three episodes of a given series because of the "three episode rule". Maybe the first two episodes because the branding around the number "3" is taken up by having three hosts.

This is all great. Love the pod. Now do a Johnny Bravo podcast.

Hi guys. Our Godzilla/Metal cafe is called Sleeper(Sleeper Coffee), on the historic pier 12, in downtown Astoria oregon. I also prefer a good herbal tea. And I also cannot drink a hot liquid.
