The 1st quarter of ep5 is amazing! They let most of the 1st half of the episode play before the opening credits rolled! The conclusion of that game was fire - I did not know there was so much monologuing in a soccer match!

Since it's kinda in the same vein as Blue Lock, I'd like to recommend everyone check out Physical: 100. It's on Netflix and is essentially a competition about finding the most physically fit person in Korea. It feels like watching a real life anime, even down to it's episode structure and character tropes.

Kuon’s a punk.

Best line of the ep by Matt "The team with the most balanced balls wins"

Right when Nick was talking about how he likes pos characters like Power, a pickup truck cut me off on the highway and they didn't have a real license plate, just a decorative one that said POWER

This might be more gambling genre than sports, but One Outs is an older baseball anime which plays to this "the only thing that matters is crushing others" mentality, centered around a genius pitcher who has to pay 50 million yen for every run he gives up. Not sure who it might appeal to but Blue Lock keeps reminding me of it so thought I'd mention it! Also, Team Z should have known Kuon was a narc from his fox eyes

This show isn’t really clicking for me so far. Being a football (or soccer) coach the fact that the actual football (or soccer) is so unrealistic makes it hard to enjoy. I’m only really sticking with it because I still enjoy listening to this podcast.
