So far I find this show fun but harder to get into than others. I like both soccer and anime but I find this combination of the two to be hard to fully appreciate on either level. It’s something unique and that’s cool, but I’m curious to see how much I’ll like it by the end of the season. Also my prediction is Eamon the goalie is gonna be shown to be the GOAT player on team Z.

I've never had even the slightest internet in soccer but this is already one of my favorite sports anime. If each of you had to compete in something, with the same stakes as Blue Lock, what sport or event would you have the best chance in?

I think I audibly gasped at the reveal. What fantastic writing. I truly can't wait to see how the team handles the betrayal and if Kuon will stay in the team housing or what. I'm not a sports person at all and I'm mad that I'm so invested

The hype this show makes me feel week to week is amazing. I haven’t had this much fun with a battle style anime since I was a kid watching DBZ. There are scenes and lines that make me smile and say “holy shit” out loud on a regular basis.

I'm watching way ahead so I won't spoil anything, but I have never felt so hyped for a sport that I don't care about at all. Absolutely captivating week to week - I would die for Bachira.

Other then general weebing of classics like Cowboy Bebop, Akira, and few early aughts (aka. The Aighties) Adult Swim broadcasts, I’m pretty new to anime and have been watching mainly to follow along with you guys. I have, however, been playing soccer all my life (but never good at it) and it’s generally the only pro sport I watch. Because of that, I find this show both hilarious and infuriating. I find myself near screaming at the TV as if I’m cheering on the USA in the World Cup. “Pass the ball already you spiky haired douche!” The “five minutes to go, better hold the ball to sweat out my thoughts Dragon Ball Z style, oh no lost the ball, one minute to go” …. You held the ball for FOUR minutes! What is this? Mourhnho’s Chelsea circa 2005, amiright?! Anyway, loving the anime. Loving your show and enjoy listening to it while shopping online for soccer themed bolo ties. Please keep up the great work.

Bah… was supposed say “The Aughties” Darn these sausage fingers of mine.

I have to say, I was absolutely loving it at first but the more the matches stretch out across multiple episodes (more in the current eps dropping weekly), the more disengaged I'm becoming. I'm from the UK and football is everywhere. While I am not a fan of the sport, this was a cool show but yeah, the consistent "overpowering" is easier to digest in "combat" animes... but here it has started to make me eye roll because of the subject matter... :D I mean, kick the ball, score a goal, done... (flippant I know)

Similar to some others, this show isn't quite clicking with me. I appreciate Heather's sentiment that it's more of a fighting anime in terms of the storytelling tropes, but at least in a fighting anime it's usually easier for me to get invested in the stakes -- in My Hero Academia, for example, if Deku loses a fight, innocent people will die. In Blue Lock, I'm finding it hard to care if Isagi doesn't end up achieving his professional sports dreams, no matter how much the show tries to tell me it'll be the end of the world if he fails. To contrast, in other sports and sports-adjacent shows (like Pokémon or Hajime no Ippo), even if the *characters* feel like it's the end of the world when they lose, the *show* presents it more like a setback or learning opportunity, which I connect to much more.

Also, I was surprised that Kuon in particular betrayed them, but not at all surprised that there *was* a traitor. Just two episodes ago, all the characters were fighting over being able to score more so that at least they could move on. It seemed like the show expected me to forget that plot point already.

I have an anime recommendation for Heather! The anime Hi Score Girl is a fun slice of life story that uses actual characters and gameplay from arcade games like Street Fighter 2, Darkstalkers, and Virtua Fighter. The main characters is even a kid who chooses to buy a Sega Saturn over a PlayStation. It’s funny, heartwarming, and delightfully self-indulgent in how much it celebrates arcade fighting games.

Hi love the shows, both Get Anime'd and Blue Lock. I watch along with the crew and it's a fun summary and review after I watch the episodes. I am also watching the season of Survivor, my first time watching it; and it seem funny how Blue Lock at times mirrors the "sudden team betrayal" dynamic from Survivor. What would your devious plan be to screw over your teammates when it counts, in order to progress?

I’m from the UK and actually coach football (I’m not calling it soccer), so the fact that the football is so unrealistic has made it hard to get into despite the interesting characters. I’m mostly sticking with it as I enjoy listening to you guys, even if I’m not enjoying BlueLock all that much.

Will Bachira kiss somebody by the end of series, and who do you think Bachira should kiss by the end of the series?

Henry Overos

So far I'm loving Blue Lock because it does what I think animation does better than live action - make the absurd believable. Is this a believable story? No not at all. In fact, it's basically nonsense. When you guys said you were going to watch this show I googled it and the first result I got was a review that said, "This show bastardizes soccer and spreads misinformation." Honestly made me want to watch it more (don't know what that says about me). But so much of the show is about how deadly serious these people take soccer and it's really good at highlighting that feeling of dread even if the stakes are relatively low... I would love for you all to watch Bocchi the Rock, a very different kind of show, because it does the same thing but with social anxiety. Although it might piss Heather off because it's not necessarily about fighting...

I’m of the mind that this is an ok sorts anime and an ok battle anime. The cast of characters is what keeps me watching in the long run. Have y’all ever continued to watch something you didn’t like very much only because you liked a certain character?

Andres Lozano

I know the series knows that it’s over the top, but the slight seriousness with how they treat the scenario irritates me since I don’t care about the stakes of the characters compared to Kuroko No Basket. That’s basketball with powers but still relatable to basketball more than Blue Lock. I also got done watching S1 of Ao Ashi which is a way more realistic soccer anime and I love it a lot. I’d appreciate Blue Lock more if they tried to make the sport less adaptable to soccer considering the unique set up it has. Add more bogus rules in there have fun with it. With the way soccer works you can’t treat it the same like Basketball considering what star players are able to do in a flow of an offense.

Andrew Ingram

They should call this show Blue Balls with all these cliffhangers! I would kick the shit out of Kuon.

Bon

I'm enjoying Blue Lock more than I originally anticipated. Usually I don't really like soccer anime, because how unrealistic they seem to me. But the over the top and dystopian premise lets me enjoy it more for what it is, a Shonen Anime in soccer's cloth.

Crid

Don't give a shit about soccer, love this anime. The main characters arc being becoming a selfish piece of shit had more legs than I originally thought and over the weekend I got fully up to date with the manga

Since there was a betrayal in the show already. What are some of your favorite betrayals in anime?
