Hello Everyone!

We are wrapping up our journey through Haruhi Suzumiya and going to end things with  episodes 23 & 24 of the series next week and then the film The Disappearance of Harhui Suzumiya the following week.

But, we have not decided what to watch next! So, if you have any suggestions of stuff you'd like to hear us talk about, whether it's a movie or an anime series, sound off in the comments!

Comments

Luis Reyes

I know it’s like super basic, but I would love to hear you all talk about deathnote!

Lark

Give the people FLCL.

Joshua Perez

FLCL It’s a short 6 episodes and sort of a follow up to Eva.

Rachael

Revolutionary Girl Utena is my choice! I would love to hear what you all have to say about it! ❤️

Andy Maclean

Ghost in the shell: SAC, please and thank you :)

Simon Grant

Seconding Revolutionary Girl Utena! Or Serial Experiments Lain!

Josh Davis

I’d vote Your Name or some Yu Yu Hakusho.

homer Thompson I

We'd love some more 90s classics, like berserk! Or do a few stand alone movies like ghost in the shell, your name or some studio ghibli stuff.

Topocito

Kaiji Ultimate survivor!!

jorgamund

Made in Abyss! Lol no that's more like the final boss of anime. In reality you guys should probably watch something that's high concept, but not too bewildering to anime newcomers, like Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song.

Taylor Bauer

My dream is a watch through of the new adaptation of Fruits Basket (aka generational trauma: the anime).

Raul Perez Jr

I like experiencing these shows for the first time with you guys, so I'll throw in a vote for FLCL and Serial Experiments Lain!

Do Not Resuscitate

I would love an excuse to go back and rewatch my favorite anime, Record of Lodoss War! You could always give Heather another reason to roll her eyes, and watch Goldenboy. The .hack//Sign series is another great video game anime show!

Coyde Gray Wolf Perry

My vote was on Paranoia Agent but it doesn't sound like Nick was loving it on his own personal watch. I'd recommend Katsuhiro Otomo's "Memories" instead, an anthology film produced by the director of Akira featuring a segment written by Satoshi Kon and scored by Yoko Kanno of Cowboy Bebop fame. Streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Anthony Lerma

Some anime classics like Serial Experiments Lain (13eps) or Boogiepop Phantom the older one (13eps) would be great and are not covered too much. But if I was being honest Utena is what I want to see since it's so, so deep cerebral kind of show, though I think 3 eps per cast might be a better cadence since its like 39eps.

Nayt

Utena but I'm protective. (Feels

Ziggy242

Good luck girl. Very funny one of my favorites only 13 episodes

Nayt

Oops. Eh whatever... sent. (Sorry)

Joseph Patrick O'Connell

Daicon III and Daicon IV opening animations (I think there's enough there for at least one episode) or FLCL, which would be a nice short series after the Haruhi Suzimiya marathon.

KidKimura

Someone mentioned Baki on the discord the other day and I think that would be really fun

showerat

Redline (2009) is one of the most lushly-animated and colorful pieces of anime action ever made and I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on it!

Notrock

Akiba Maid War is an original anime like Lycoris Recoil and features some great animation and a ridiculous, fun premise. And doesn't lack for action either. Alternatively, Bocchi The Rock is another original that features very clever uses of animation and mixed media with killer music and a likeable cast

Alex L

Ping Pong the Animation

wjodendor

Since we've done a long series, maybe a short series or a few movies would be good. For some older stuff, Gunsmith Cats or Patlabor the Movie (1 and 2) would be cool. Ya Boy, Kongming for a newer crazy premise show. Bakemonogatari for a wild ride. Or Black Lagoon for some brutal 80s action movie style violence

Niall Olson

something short and sweet would be a nice break. FLCL would be amazing but Gundam The Origin, one ep a week would put Heather in heaven

PC

Samurai Champloo?

Grant Prusi

FLCL would be a great short one. Gurren Lagann is a bit longer but makes you feel like you can do anything. Also the scope just keeps expanding to ridiculous levels. I enjoyed the manga “Talentless Nana.” I don’t know if the anime holds up, but it’s an interesting cat and mouse type story.

Blake Shafer

I say kick it back with a classic series again like you did with Evangelion. I will continue to shout COWBOY BEBOP into the abyss and hope you guys hear me. Dorohedoro would also be a solid choice.

Zack Tennenhouse

Kuroko's Basketball Season 1! I feel like it would be extremely Nick's shit, especially after he and Matt have just seen The First Slam Dunk.

McStamper

You should add the sport anime, Haikyuu, to the watch list

Joshua Kennedy

I just watched Baccano! and I have to recommend it for the show and my fellow listeners. It's a comedy train heist and a supernatural horror and a mafia and a serial killer movie all at once. It's bizarre and unique and only 13ish episodes. I recommend the dub, specifically.

Spayde

I’d love nothing more to hear you guys cover Mashle: Magic and Muscles. I laughed to the point of tears in almost every single episode. Takes place in a very interesting world sort of like My Hero Academia, only instead of everyone having some sort of super power, everyone has some sort or magical vocation…except the protagonist, Mash. Where Mash lacks in magic, he makes up for in raw strength. Also, he’s dumb as shit. Think of it like this: what if Saitama from One Punch Man attended Hogwarts?

Adam Haisley

One Punch Man so I have an excuse to watch it again.

Bosscat

Birdie Wing, but you have to do both seasons because it just gets so insane.

McStamper

Also a couple of movies, Wolf Children and Belle

Paul Shahbazian

I know you all did Blue Lock already, but if you want another Sports Anime that is not actually a Sports Anime, I think you should do Ping Pong: The Animation next

JKiegelis

Mushoku Tensei or zom100. More modern current. If you go classic, cowboy bebop!

BruceWayneBrady

I'd love to see you watch some Mamoru Hosoda movies, mainly "Summer Wars" & "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time".

Chad Shaffer

I don't think Matt can handle Dorohedoro(too gross, graphic). How about Gurren Laggan?

Mel

Would love a classic like Mobile Suit Gundam

ColtonFS

I've been wanting to watch the new Trigun Stampede show, so that would be good for me!

Peep_My_Meeps

I agree with the people that suggest maybe a shorter anime or a movie. With Heather's love of Fornite, i have to suggest Darwin's Game - a show where a battle royale game becomes real. Alternatively, because code geass has been discussed alot recently, it could be really fun to cover that too :)

J-Train

Either Jojo or My Hero Academia would be really fun. I know Nick is caught up but I'd really love Attack on Titan.

Transfem Surge!

A single episode for the 6 episode ova FLCL would be dank. As a long term Eva fan, this is the only series I place above it.

Colleen Peavy

Yuri on Ice or Knights of Sidonia

Andrew Larson

I know it's a commitment, but Naruto would be really fun. Believe it!

JoeyGuy7

Oshi no ko, it was one of the biggest shows of last season for good reason. Gives a semi realistic look at the Japanese entertainment industry with a few high concept twists. Really big recommend. First episode is an 80 minute movie that I promise will hook you by the end.

Ptylerdactyl

After Haruhi, a series I love where nothing* happens in the second season, maybe Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, a series I kinda like where stuff just never stops happening?

JoeyGuy7

Ya boy Kongming is another great show on hidive, yall talked about it before and it's only 12 episodes. Very light

jess

Kill La Kill is classic and short. Would love to hear everyone's takes on it.

KuPaoChicken

Casshern SINS is cool. Demon Slayer? Naruto? You are insane

William

I think Chihayafuru would be perfect for the show.

Daniel Bayot

Would love for y’all visit Pokemon Ultimate Journeys - the four episode battle of Ash vs Leon and Ash becoming champion! I believe it’s Part 3 episodes 35-38 on Netflix FLCL would be super awesome to hear y’all cover too!

realitalianice

I would love to hear everyone's thoughts on Heavenly Delusion. I watched it recently and was reminded of Eva in the way the story was told, where a relatively simple story structure (boy needs to pilot a big robot to defend city/two teens traveling in a post-apocalypse world) houses much bigger themes that exploded at the end of each story/season. I think y'all would have an amazing discussion of the themes and think it would be fun to follow along with everyone trying to figure out the mystery of the story/season.

Henry Overos

Bocchi the rock but if you need to change from slice of life I think it would be entertaining to hear you guys discuss RE:Zero season 1. It takes the premise of save-points from video games and asks, "What would happen if you remembered how you died in each level?" Gets very dark but... could lead to some interesting takes and conversation.

spiflication

MACROSS DO YOU REMEMBER LOVE movie

Andrew

Akiba Maid War on HiDive. It’s a ton of fun in the vein of Yakuza 0 and I think each host would enjoy it.

Sewing Savage

Lucky star would be a great companion to haruhi!

Krakoa

Well retracting my rec for Baccano! because you can't stream it anywhere, which sucks. Akiba Maid War or Dorohedoro are my backups.

Adam Suddon

Birdie Wing: Golf Girls' Story.

Damien Thomas

Vinland Saga! One of my favorite newer anime and a rollercoaster of emotions.

MK

I'd love to see the gang cover Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood! Maybe break it up into two seasons, with season one ending at Episode 31: The 520 Cens Promise.

Dabinsk

The author of Vinland saga had another work adapted in the 2000s called “Planetes” about space garbagemen that was really good!

wjodendor

Or another KyoAni show like Amagi Brilliant Park

Andrew Ingram

I’m gonna say Code Geass because I wanna watch it again. It can be covered as a series or as 3 movies. Same plot.

Ziggy242

Maybe you guys could do a special episode on one piece maybe watch a couple of the new episodes that show off Luffys new form

ask4seconds

Hello Everyone!!! I cast my vote at covering either Samurai Champloo, Steins;Gate, Wolf's Rain, or Black Lagoon.. They are all about 1 Season long, with amazing stories and visuals, and were a huge part of my weebing growing up. Love what you three do for Get Anime'd, such a pleasure listening and watching along!

David Mucci

I echo any other One Piece suggestions, and I would particularly suggest a smallish arc: Arlong Park, which runs from episode 31 to 44 of the show. I think it’ll give a good idea of the fun and emotional aspects of the story!

Trey Johnson

You could do Trigun! It’s classic 90s, and you could compare the remake as a follow up

Ted Kord

Serial Experiments: Lain to lead into Spooky Season, or Revolutionary Girl Utena since it's the best!

Charleston Kid

I think you should do Code Geass! We’ve talked about it on the show a few times and I think Matt and nick would really get into it. When the main character says “I declare this the United States of Japan!” I think we could make the boy’s heads explode

Jakob

SPACE DANDY!!!!!

Big Daddy Mac

Space dandy would be a fun one to deconstruct, very goofy but each episode kind of has its own gimmick and style which I think would lead to good discussion. ALSO Golden kamuy is an excellent anime similar in tone to chainsaw man, except it takes place shortly after the russo-japan war in the early 1900s; an ex soldier and an ainu girl team up to search for legendary gold. Their only clue? A map that is tattooed on to the backs of Japans toughest prisoners! Lots of beautiful man butts in this one too!

Kevin Stanley

FLCL, a nice follow-up to Haruhi and Eva.

Zach Folkman

Bocchi the Rock! it's one season, it's light, the jokes are great, and the animation is really impressive

Soupy

I'd like to suggest Mononoke. Not Princess Mononoke (though that's great too!), but the series Monoke - a very stylish horror adjacent super smart anime. It's one short season and fantastic in many many ways.

Sllew

Ping Pong the Animation

Beef Steak Tomato

Revolutionary Girl Utena is the miniseries I've been waiting for. It's a big ask, for all the reasons Heather has outlined in the past, but god that show is incredible. Badass swordfights, oblique conversations full of insane proclamations, a soundtrack of absolute bops, and blindingly powerful lesbian energy.

tstads20

Started watching Samurai Champloo which has some great Cowboy Bebop vibes (same studio), so maybe a nice segue from Matt’s own journey there

Blake P

Either Dororo or a favorite of Heather's

Garren Glore

For series, Code Geass or Classroom of the Elite. For movies, A Silent Voice or Weathering With You

Bigby915

Akiba Maid War. With Heather's experience in Japan and the outright batshit story, it would be great fit.

Keirik

Bocchi the Rock would own tbh. OR if you wanna stay on the sexy anachronic train (no pun intended, a lot of the show happens on a train you see) Baccano is kind of a masterpiece.

Markus Lindström

True cooking master boy - Battle anime about cooking. It's ridiculous, it's fun.

Patrick

Would love to see a Takahata movie like Only Yesterday covered. I’m also pretty new to anime so hitting another one of the seminal anime series like Cowboy Bebop would be fun.

PBR_hipster420

MY DRESS UP DARLING!! Slice of life cosplay anime that is only 12 episodes long. Gorgeous animation and plenty of *ahem* fan service for everyone. It's great and light hearted.

Ben Walkup

A local theater of mine is showing Perfect Blue soon - I think a Satoshi Kon series could be a fun way to quickly cover multiple great stories! Or Mamoru Hosoda. Or Makoto Shinkai But if I had to pick a series... Psycho Pass only gets more relevant as time goes on

AnthonyRC627

Do some movies! Watching a few movies would be nice between series.

robofunk

I'm trying to think of genres they haven't covered. Golden Kamuy is a funny "historical" anime with good action, that I think they'd get a kick out of. Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! is kind of meta and funny about making an anime.

William Jones

I think you'd like Angel Beats, but it might be too similar to the series you just finished.

Jacob Castro

Dorohedoro would be a quick trip.

nornir

PLEASE PLEASE PLEEEEASE Puella Magi Madoka Magica! 💖💕 Including the Rebellion Movie of course. It's one of my favorite series and I know you guys would enjoy it too!!

Zeon Liberation

Ping Pong the Animation! God it’s so good. Or you could do a Miyazaki Month and watch like 4-5 movies. That’d be dope.

Jango Bells

I think a movie break would be fun, too, and I'd third the vote for Utena. I see Ghost in the Shell has been suggested - how about some Bubblegum Crisis?

Jamie Hill

Hello everyone. I think since Nick is watching Gundam and it’s been discussed by Heather for a while now, MS 08th team would be fun. Only 12 episodes and it’s stand alone in the One Year War. It’s one of my favorite series in the UC timeline.

FuryGarruk

If we want a break from meta shenanigans and just want something feel-good, I gotta recommend Haikyu!!, which is just a very very good sports anime about the best sport, Volleyball.

Ryan M

Spy x Family!

Benjamin Francis

Thank you GetAnime for covering all these amazing series in the ways only you can. Looking forward to what comes next and here's a few suggested series I think would be interesting for the podcast to watch. FLCL for another Gainax show after Eva. It's a fountain of things to discuss but I'd be thrilled if the podcast covered this one just for the music alone. Eizouken! (science saru) or Shirobako (P.A. works) for series about making animation and anime production. Both are fantastic. The Monogatari Series for a studio SHAFT production, Supernatural Mystery. Everyone likes mysteries right? The dialog in monogatari is to Japanese what the dialog in Deadwood was to English. It's written so precisely and tightly and to a rhythm that it's impossible to cover here, it really has to just be seen. Mushishi for a period piece. It's also a supernatural mystery series, but it's like the Edo Period Dr House kind if house smoked a special spirit weed to deal with his afflictions instead of Vicodin. Slow paced, dreamy, one of the greatest and most underseen anime tv series, the director of Mushishi is currently adapting Uzumaki and previously also adapted Aku no Hana or The Flowers of Evil. This would be a good one to see before that finally comes out. Serial Experiments Lain for a science fiction series. It's unsettling and it's endlessly rewatchable. Birdie Wing for a sports series. This has to be the most fun anime has gotten to have with sports since Keijo, the butt battle one. Bocchi the Rock for a music series, modern day setting series. It's the discord favorite slice of life and I think it would be a breezy one for everyone to enjoy. Princess Mononoke for a Ghibli episode because I want the podcast to mention that story where Miyazaki sent that katana to Miramax with "no cuts" JoJo's Bizarre Adventure for an adventure series. The gore might push them off it fast but they all got through Akira, so I believe it'll be fine. It's easy to get hooked fast.

Ryan M

Revolutionary Girl Utena

Ryan M

Serial Experiments: Lain.

Close Quarter Wombat

Redline would be a fun movie to cover. I feel like it has things all three of the Get Anime'd crew would love.

Byron Lagrone

Lupin III, a movie or series 5? Or maybe the Miyazaki albatross episode

Kayzeemonster

Films: The Night is Short, Walk On Girl (just watched last night), or a Satoshi Kon film Series: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure or Life Lessons with Uramichi Onii-san

Joe M

I would love to experience one of the Dragon Ball Super movies with everyone. I've seen Broly and Super Hero, and they're both incredibly awesome. I would suggest the first Mobile Suit Gundam movie, it's about 2.5 hours long, but it's super condensed and only about a third of the original show, but the Cucuruz Doan's Island is an awesome stand-alone movie. It was an episode of the original run that was basically lost media until it was remade and expanded for theaters, and could be a great jumping in point for the UC universe!

Dennis Kerr

I dont have much to recommend that isn't super long, I feel like something jojos bizarre adventure might be too many eps to really get into on the pod, but it would be super cool to see. Instead my real rec is that you guys cover a manga series: Goodnight Punpun like that one listener mentioned a few weeks ago! It's so good and id love to hear your guys' take on it.

GoonScape

Witch Hunter Robin!

Riley Flischel

Maybe a Game and Tell format (Anime and Tell?) about a series that is not likely to be covered by the podcast but is worth discussing for an episode because of its influence on the medium or how it affected the host(s).

Daniel Zaballos

Just finished watching the 2006 anime and then reading the visual novel for Higurashi no Naku Koro ni and I'd love to heard their thoughts on it!

LS

Ping Pong The Animation Watched it after Alec Robbins of Mr Boop fame (who I hope you'll have on if you ever have guests) put it in his top 5 of all-time and it's easily my favorite anime now. Does the impossible storytelling magic trick where every character, even minor characters and antagonists, have a depth to them that makes you feel like you understand and know these fictional people. It's also a really good sports anime and funny, too! Really unique animation style from the art director of Space Dandy and Spiderverse 2. Only 11 episodes, it's streaming on Crunchyroll. Even if it doesn't fit the show, I hope you'll check it out, it's so, so good and underseen!

Lacey C

Banana fish is a great gritty story though it does deal with some intense subjects. Movie wise id love to hear yalls suzume thoughts

Matthew Siegel

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - 26 episodes (not too short, not overlong), Eva/Gainax connection, also a massive early 2000s hit, kind of a knowing reconstruction of the history and tropes of mecha anime so plenty of opportunities for Heather to talk about Gundam and Eva while enjoying the amazing fights/story. Easily available on Hulu. Puella Magi Madoka Magica- 12 episodes so a nice six week run for the show, and a chance to delve into the magical girl genre which hasn’t gotten much play yet from the hosts. Some obvious Eva inspiration in its deconstruction of a normally chipper genre, with some slight Haruhi-esque chronology hijinks. Also Available on Hulu. Ping Pong the Animation - Sports anime, manageable episode length, fucking amazing art style. On crunchyroll. The Tatami Galaxy - If they’re really burned out after Endless Eight, why not a show where every episode is ostensibly about the same set of characters/time period, except everything wildly changes each loop?! Great animation, something new to talk about each episode….but I don’t think it’s streaming anywhere so the hosts would need to go through LEGITIMATE METHODS to watch.

André Callot

Revolutionary Girl Utena. Gotta do it.

André Callot

Also, very excited about Delicious in Dungeon getting an anime in January.

Jonathon Wiggins

Summer Time Rendering is 25 episode start to finish on Hulu. I thought that it was really well done time-travel anime.

beatnikbedlam

would really love to see you cover Akiba Maid War, it’s one of the coolest and most bonkers shows i’ve ever seen. it’s a short one too! only twelve episodes. would also love to see a romcom like My Dress-Up Darling or Call of the Night at some point!

Andrew Mcilwraith

Pipe dream pick: - Food Wars! - High-key horny cooking battle anime! More realistic picks: - Madoka Magica - Magical girl deconstruction anime with a cute, moe aesthetic (have Nick/Matt been introduced to this anime "sub-genre" yet?). - Steins; Gate - Help me understand why this never clicked for me, but is considered one of the best anime out there. - Mobile Suit Gundam (Iron Blooded Orphans or Witch from Mercury) - or maybe something from the UC timeline...

ryan mcgrath

Birdie Wing, Bocchi, Mashle Maybe have a few eps of “OOPS! All What we’ve been weebin’” and include a show from each host that they have seen 1-2 eps of and they can give their takes and why or why not the show would be good for the podcast. A lot of shows could be covered, that will never be done fully on the podcast, but people still want the hosts takes on the first ep or two. But it seems like people are pretty horny for movies. So maybe a few movies.

Lily C

Cowboy Bebop, I’ve been meaning to watch it and would love to watch along! And super basic and drawn out, but attack on titan.

Josh

Death Note!

Chelsea Margaret Cole

I'm seeing several ppl suggest Utena and Bebop, which I think are fine choices, but here are some others anyway: I think Nick would like Golden Boy, because it's horny yet oddly charming. I think Matt would like Dead Leaves because it has rad vibes. Seriously, it looks like Mattnip. Other suggestions: Fist of the North Star, Castle of Cagliostro, Only Yesterday, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, Ninja Scroll.

Scott H [Hugizu on Discord]

Also, here's a thought: What about a special "Get Manga'd" episode where the hosts pick a manga with just a few issues or a single volume (something easily consumable) to discuss?

Kevin M

Gurren Lagann! You could watch the series itself, or just do the movies.

JoeyGuy7

I changed my mind bakemonogatari is by far my #1 pick

Youki Sato

Not sure Heather would be a fan but I totally recommend Kids on the Slope (music by Yoko Kanno) or Planetes!

Doc Robot

Ranking of Kings has gorgeous animation, an unpredictable and fun story and a fantastic retro aesthetic! I highly recommend it! Also if you guys ever want to venture into slice of life/rom coms I really enjoyed My Love Story!! Can't wait to hear what the next watch along will be, happy picking!

Doc Robot

I agree with the people suggesting Dorohedoro! The anime got me reading the manga (which is fantastic) and I'm up to date on the author's current series Dai Dark (which is even better!)

Dave

I'd like to recommend "Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni." It does VASTLY more interesting things with time loops than Endless Eight, and the discussion of that nightmare really put me in mind of how much I enjoyed the first two seasons of this show. It's about a small, rural town where a group of teenaged friends get caught up in a series of brutal and horrifying murders, over and over and over again, but each time they unfold in different ways and for different reasons, with different victims and purpotrators, and each new instance reveals to the viewer new secrets and clues which help to gradually paint a picture of the underlying conflict. There's some WILD butterfly effect stuff in play. Just intensely intriguing stuff. I absolutely consumed it when I was introduced to it. I speak of the original series here, for clarity, and not the much more recent one.

Sam Mitchell

I recently watched Puella Magi Madoka Magica and I really enjoyed it! It’s a shorter series (12 episodes) so I feel it would be a good candidate.

Seth Bullocks

Movie: Early Ghibli, either: - Nausicaa - Castle in the Sky Show: - Hajime no Ippo, maybe the first arc, got me into cardio boxing - Hi Score Girl, anime about the 90’s arcade fighting scene PS. Since watching Gundam Origins, I’ve added a HG RX-78 Revive to my cart, but haven’t purchased it yet.

Skizz

Another vote for Gurren Lagann! Perfect length season for what you have covered here before. Would love to hear the gang's thoughts on the series for its own badass merits, and where the show fits with EVA and the mech cannon. Who the hell do you think I am?!

William Woessner

Cowboy bebop or Samurai Champloo in anticipation of the upcoming new show by Wantanabe called Lazarus (looks amazing btw, should def do a series on it when it comes out)

Buddy Jones

Another vote for Higurashi When they Cry (2006), would love to hear the crew discuss this series. The writer Ryukishi07 wrote the visual novel it’s based on and has an upcoming Silent Hill project coming soon.

Andy Hunter

I like the idea of you all discussing Princess Mononoke or another other Miyazaki film. (You could do the Ghibli emotional whiplash double feature of Grave of the Fireflies and My Neighbor Totoro.) Also echo suggestions for Cowboy Bebop or Samurai Champloo. Since Heather's a big fan of My Hero Academia, I'd love to hear you all discuss the first 10 (or whatever) episodes of that.

The Mountain That Abides

Eureka 7 is my favorite anime and feels like a yang to Neon Genesis' yin. 50 episodes and streams intermittently, but is an absolute masterpiece. Also has one of the best soundtracks in anime history. And much like NGE, you can just stop watching anything created after a certain date, because the showrunner can't stop fucking with their creation.

Jango Bells

Classic mid-90s anime Vision of Escaflowne, and then the Escaflowne movie. Yoko Kanno music and such a great title sequence, too.

Alex Chosid

You all should do all the studio ghibli movies. It’d be a longer series but every week would be different so it’s not like watching a huge anime series. Could also just do a director to cut the list down.

RyGuy

I don't just suggest, I dare you to cover One Piece. lol but maybe a Studio Ghibli movie before it.

George Miles

I’d love you to cover Your Name - just a film with an emotional impact like no other

Sid Tovar

Space Dandy or Sonny Boy

joe lopez

Monster by naoki urasawa! It’s fuckin incredible

Eric Krohn

Kill la Kill, Steins Gate, or Mob Psycho

Sssiiimmmooonnn

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders

TurboTurtle

FL CL has 12 episodes on Crunchy Roll I just finished it and that show is completely insane and fun as hell. I still didn't fully understand it but still entertaining and wouldn't mind rewatching it again for this show. The second option is Another which is also on Crunchy Roll I can only describe it as Final Destination but with middle schoolers.

bumbubblegum

i think you guys brought it up before but ninja scroll would be crazy!

Korby

Anything by Kunihiko Ikuhara. Obviously Utena is at the top of that list, but Penguindrum or Sarazanmai are also fantastic. Also I’d love to hear our boys be exposed to some modern classics like Madoka, Kill la Kill, or Gurren Lagann.

bradley scanlon

Please do the DBZ franchise. It’s a big bite of a challenge, but will be well worth it

Rachael

Another vote for Gurren Lagann! My all time favorite series!!! ❤️

Mat Leonard

Gurren Lagann is epic and one of my favorites. I'll also suggest Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! A nice single season of 12 episodes about three high school girls making their own anime. The characters are wonderful, amazing art and animation, plus a killer OP theme. A favorite from the last few years, think it warrants more attention.

Craig K

Any Gundam series!

Rose Lieberman

Gurren Lagann Would be the perfect series for this show. Some overall horniness for Nick, some great characters for Matt, and insane action scenes and spectacle for Heather. Perfect pick

Coy_o_Coy

FLCL would be an absolutely wild one to review. It’s short, extremely bizzare, and just inscrutable enough to make for plenty of discussion. Otherwise I think Code Geass could be pretty fun. It feels perhaps a little dated in its pace, but not more than DBZ, and it is basically Harry Potter but Hogwarts is a Gundam academy and one dude has a magic eye and an insatiable desire for revolution

Sebastian Alvarado

Dorohedoro!!! More one off movie episodes would be cool.

Alan Nelson

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Gundam Berserk ‘97

Kyle

Watch some Satoshi Kon movies! Perfect Blue and Paprika would be awesome.

V-Tall

Yu Yu Hakusho or Decadence or Ranking of Kings

Cheddar_Goblin

I know it might not fit exactly, but what about Metalocalypse (the Adult Swim show about a metal band)?

JO

I'd love to hear your take on a classic with a more recent reboot/remix - maybe the Cowboy Bebop anime + the live action show, or Trigun classic + Trigun stampede? Or just the classic version, haha. I've also been feeling nostalgic for Last Exile... Your show has me thinking about busting out all my DVD box sets lol.

Andres Ungaro

I’d say, after weeks and weeks of haruhi (not a complaint), maybe taking on a movie or some standalone ova would be a nice change of pace. Or kaijo, it’s like blue lock but with butts!

Eric Londaits

Maybe we went through all of the anime now? Maybe it's time to change the name to Get Tooned and watch some classical Looney Toons or Hannah Barbara cartoons now? I don't know, I'm just saying.

Anor Mal Scarecrow

Zom100 sounds like a good fit, after Nick’s description. I know it’s being released currently, so that may not fly for the podcast schedule. Cowboy Bebop would be a great time. So would Samurai Champloo. The Devil is a Part-Timer is an absolutely baffling mess that would be fun to puzzle through (I unironically love it, but the story is about demons who invade Japan and have to cope with their new world but the message is about the beauty of found family. Also the Devil gets a job a McDonalds and he’s super into it.) Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury would be good. I need a push to finish that one.

Div Whateley

I’d love if you guys did Mobile Suit Gundam!

George Dadasovich

For a one off episode, I’d recommend the movie Inu-Oh. It’s a fun rock opera set in feudal Japan about a blind, biwa-playing monk and a cursed boy who discovers a gift for dance. I believe it’s still on Hulu, so it’d be pretty accessible for people, too.

I'd recommend watching for a one off, the movie Angel's Egg. it's a quick watch, it's beautiful, it's on YouTube.I really love the three monogatari movies and I can't recommend it highly enough if youre not opposed to a sexy good time. I also recommended Kaiba for a show on the discord and some people seemed to like that rec 👍

The first 3 episodes of Birdie Wing are some of the most engaging episodes of tv I’ve seen in years. There is so much to talk about. It’s got it all; comedy, drama, romance, an underground (lesbian?) organization of life and death gambling on golf where they call out their shots like Street Fighter moves.

Marvezee

Gundam 0080. Perfect side story with no knowledge needed of the UC. Short and sweet at 6 episodes but does enough to capture what Gundam is all about. Bonus points with the English dub because you get to hear David Hayter do a bad Australian accent.

Harkins is doing a nice release of anime movie re-releases here soon and Cowboy Bebop: the movie will be showing starting 01/21/24 and if you could work it out to do the series that would lead up to the movie being in theaters would be awesome. Paprika will be in theaters 02/07/24 and that would be great also for the podcast

Michael Raimondi

Kids on the Slope might be a fun short one. It's only 12 episodes and is another collaboration of Shinichiro Watanabe and Yoko Kanno of Cowboy Bebop fame. The animation and music are outstanding. It's about highschool students learning jazz, so it would be a break from wild concept anime and show a more dramatic series.

The first season of Bakemonogatari might be fun to watch (Matt and Nick will probably enjoy Black Hanekawa). Puella Magi Madoka Magica is another good choice. They were released in late/early 2010. They are classics in the same vein as Haruhi, but not like Haruhi at all. They are stand out shows that do something completely unique compared to other shows airing in the same timeframe. They both have meaty concepts that would make excellent material for discussions.

Jayme Cangelosi

I would also love to hear what y’all think of Gurren Lagann. Like with Haruhi, I loved it when it first came out but haven’t done a rewatch since so it would be great to watch along with the pod.

crystalhearts

the first season of ranma 1/2! absolutely no need to go past that tho

clearplastichuman

i cant believe no one has mentioned full metal alchemist full metal alchemist!

Waffleheart

Oshi No Ko, at least episode 1 in between other shows. Episode 1 is basically a 84 minute movie with plenty to talk about.

Leelu Baloo

Not a question: but thought y’all should know. I have a transfer flight in Amsterdam and I can’t stop saying “AMSTERDAM” (like Heather’s World Warrior segment).

Chris

I love FLCL and would like hearing your takes. Short and sweet. Great in comparison to Eva too.

"Kuroku lives alone" Short and Cute AF, New. you will love this and its on Netflix FMAB - top show I've ever seen. Its 63 eps. But truly one of the greatest shows ever made. It just is aging compared to newer Mappa projects There is a series called "Fate" its truly one of the greatest things in anime. You would have to break this up over years starting with 1. Fate unlimited blade works 2. Fate zero "watch as a prequel to ubw" 3. Fate Babylon There's a movie for each one. They also just released a new movie for an upcoming season that is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. Maybe just watch this new movie from this summer and see what you think of the series off of that. "Fate/strange Fake: Whispers of Dawn"

Zack Tennenhouse

It may be outside the scope of the show, but I'm watching the Netflix adaptation of One Piece and it's WAY better than anticipated - it would be very fun to hear your thoughts!

Mack the Void

I feel like angel beats is a natural follow up to haruhi

You guys should do a one-off of the Daicon 3 and 4 opening videos. They’re so important to the medium (animated by the Gainax team while they were still in school) and they rule.

Minh Tran

I would love for you guys to experience Katanagatari. It was a unique experience going through that one because unlike other anime at the time it released as twelve 45 minute episodes once a month. It started in January and in ended in December. The waits between episodes were excruciating after watching the next episode previews.

Rae Watney

My suggestion would be for Akiba Maid War, funniest anime of last year. If the Maid Yakuza theme is a no-go, it'd be cool to do a short dip into hilariously unique dubs like Ghost Stories or the UK dub of Urusei Yatsura

clearplastichuman

this podcast is my favorite anime, so my vote goes to "get anime'd"

Brad Wyatt

Zom 100 is Excellent. I'm watching as they arrive on Netflix so only 7 episodes so far I believe. Not sure how much they'll do

Frankie

please consider Nana, Bocchi the Rock, or Oshi no Ko. These lean more shojo, but all have mass appeal. Nick’s suggestion of Ya Boy Kongming! would be tons of fun too. Something for everyone, ya know?

Frankie

if you do another movie… Inu-oh!

Joseph So

“ Tron: Uprising” if that counts as anime. If it does, it’s the only anime I’ve watched all of. Close second is blue lock which I’m getting to.

Paul Wright

Demon slayer would be great

DebrafromHR

witch hunter robin and boogiepop phantom have been on my mind and I would love to know what you guys think

Joseph Combo

Doesn’t really count as Anime, but I thought Blue Eyed Samurai was great.
