Thanks you both for the reaction - I always appreciate how deeply you both go into the details of the shows you watch.

Are you guys planning on watching all 5 of the films after the series?

Plugsuit

I expect them to watch Death (True)² and then End of E. Bluray Version, but not the rework. I haven't seen rework myself, but I don't like the way it's just a rehash to keep the IP rights, or so I heard at least. Does anyone know, are the new movies really worth watching?

lilrigbus

I hope they at least make it that far. Although, I would say that Death(True) isn't necessary to check out as it's just a recap; albeit, a stylized one. I definitely recommend you check out the four Rebuild films. A lot of people are pretty snippy about them because of various creative decisions that differ from the original series. But I think they are fantastic. The first film is pretty much a shot-for-shot remake of the first 7 episodes, but with updated animation. The second film summarizes the rest up to ep 19, but there are quite a few twists to the story and a surprising amount of new content in terms of character development. The last two films are completely different from anything in the show, leading to a wildly different ending. These, of course, are the films that some people have a bone to pick with. But personally, while I agree that the "new" ending is not as thought-provoking as End of Evangelion, it is way more emotionally satisfying and gives some proper closure to the characters. Also, I won't say anything about it, but there is an in-world reason for why the newer films exist. I'm sure it was conceived after the fact of deciding to make them, but it is there if you care about that sort of thing. Lastly, the animation is fantastic. I think the last one came out 4 years ago, and it's definitely some of the best modern animation I've seen. Anyways, sorry for the essay; those are a few reasons I think you should give them a chance...

The rebuilds have their own story to tell. it enhances the original so much. Definitely not just a cashgrab

The Rebuilds are direct sequels no matter how much people want to head canon them away because they don't like them.

You didn’t mis-see the hospital scene. Toji is definitely missing at least a leg.
