Kathleen Turner who plays Chandlers father is a great actress, she had a ton of movies coming out in the 80s and 90s, the most memorable for me is The War of the Roses where she stars opposite Michael Douglas as a married couple who go through a harrowing, horrible and hilarious, yet tragic, divorce. Would be a great one to react to :) She has said in the last few years that if the show was filmed today, she never would have taken the role, because she thinks an actual trans woman should have played the role. Kind of one of those things that show the series is a product of its time and that certain things wouldn't fly today. Matthew Perry did actually say that during the filming of the show, he refused to act homophobic in any way - I think for the most part he succeeded, just the line about "does it matter?!" about his dad sleeping with Mr Garibaldi is a bit on the line in my opinion. But I do kinda love Kathleen Turner as Mr. Bing (another thing Kathleen Turner said was that the character should be addressed as she/her, and not he/him). "So, you're bald?" Great line xD

Jake was actually introduced a few episodes back in the one where Monoca starts getting freaked out about never having that new relationship feeling again. As far as your vow question, every wedding has vows. A lot of ppl write their own and some go more traditional and have the officiant do the vows. When I got married I knew that I wouldn't be able to make it through vows that I wrote myself without bawling so we had the officiant do it. I still bawled lol. Great reactions as always!

I can't wait for you to see the last couple episodes of this season. It's everything a Friends Finale should be and more!

I've always hated how childish Rachel was about not being allowed to drive the Porsche. She completely disregarded Monica's telling her that she isn't allowed. It was very petty and childish of her to ignore it.

I'm very confused. I could have sworn I've seen this reaction already a few weeks ago?? Not criticism, I'm genuinely trying to see if I'm hallucinating and my brain is playing tricks on me, because I haven't seen this show since it first aired, but the whole episode with Chandler's dad I kept knowing exactly what happened and how Nick would react (EDIT I keep raking my brain to see if we've seen Kathleen Turner in an earlier episode before and I'm mixing a memory, but they say Monica is meeting her for the first time, so it can't be that). Am I going crazy?

Fun thing. Chandler’s dad is played by Kathleen Turner who was a pretty big movie actress from the 80s and maybe even the 90s. Years back, my friend and I went to a Bed & Breakfast in upstate NY. We were planning on going into the city that day, and we went down to eat breakfast before we left. There was one dining room table, and the owners were making breakfast. When we got to the table, there were two people sitting next to each other on one side of it, and they both had newspapers up in front of their faces. As we sat down across from them, the man folded his paper and said “so what’s your story?” to us. We were like “huh?” We were like 19 or so…really didn’t have a big story. He said “your story…what’s your story?!” I said “well we’re here this morning, but we’re going into the city today.” He said “nice…what are you going to do there?” So I started telling him about our plans, and I said “we’re going on the Circle Line tour today…” and just then the woman drops her paper and said, “the Circle Line?!?! I LOVE the Circle Line!!!!” The man said “you love the Circle Line?” She said “yes!” He said “when’s the last time you went on a Circle Line tour?” She said “oh geez…it must have been fifteen years ago now…” he said “fifteen years ago? That’s how much you love the Circle Line..!!” They were so cute. And they proceeded to tell us places where we should go and visit in the city. I knew who it was but because of where we were, I didn’t say anything. After breakfast, they left to ride bicycles, and the owner came in and said “you just had breakfast with our movie star!” It was Kathleen Turner and her husband. So randomly, years ago, we had breakfast with Chandler’s dad. And she was lovely.

Favorite Kathleen Turner movie is "Serial Mom"

The thing that I love the most about Monica and Chandler, is that they were never actually meant to be a thing. Them hooking up in London, was supposed to be a one off event. But because of the humongous reaction from the studio audience when they saw them together, the writers had to rethink, because they realized they had something special.

As others have mentioned, Kathleen Turner is a well known actress from the 80’s. She starred in a few movies with Michael Douglas. Romancing The Stone and its sequel Jewel of the Nile. They were also in War of The Roses, which I haven’t see in a very long time, but remember that I really liked it. Kathleen is known for having a fairly deep voice for a woman. The waitress who Monica was having trouble with the pronouns was actually Courtney’s real life sister in law Alexis Arquette was an actress and transgender activist before she passed away. Just as a reminder, Courtney’s husband at the time was Phoebe and Ursula’s stalker, David Arquette. They met filming the first Scream movie around 1995.

Also a good one - another one I loved as a kid is Baby Geniuses :D

I'm sure it's been mentioned in other comments, but that's Kathleen Turner! So what made it extra funny is it was actually a woman playing Chandler's dad, lol Recomended Kathleen Turner movies: Body Heat, War of the Roses, Romancing the Stone.

Regarding your question to vows: I‘m not married but my brother and his wife didn‘t have vows. Instead they wrote letter for each other and exchanged them during the wedding ceremony because they felt it was just for them and not everyone attending

Viera Galikova

i think that's actually sad for men who are like Chandler's dad, that a woman had to represent them.

Devon Bauerkemper

Oh those aren’t rumors. That’s fact haha. It was gonna happen. But ya Matthew so no

April Nicole

“I feel like that fire between them has died out.” That comment aged incredibly well 🤣🤣

... about Chandler's father - the show never makes it clear whether he's a gay man who likes to perform in drag, or whether she's a trans woman. What's worse, lots of laughter and humor is coming from simply pointing out that this is how Chandler's father is, and that's it, that's the entire joke. Friends aired together with Xena The Warrior Princess, which ended in 2001, before Friends ended, and Xena had an episode where she meets a guy in drag/possible trans woman and it's not played for laughs at all. The person is fearing for their safety and Xena does the good thing by not outing them or even mocking them - even though she was attacked by this person. Xena openly admits she doesn't understand what they're going through so she's not gonna pretend she gets it, but she's not interested in hurting them and she lets them win a beauty contest. It's sweet that the father is always trying to reach out and that Chandler can finally accept it. Monica is right - the father was there for Chandler, never abandoned him. But the story of Chandler's father is sidelined too much, to be replaced with 'jokes' about how funny the father's existence is.

Kathleen Turner also voiced Ressica Rabbit. In a previous episode, Chandler named a list of women he could sleep with without his girlfriend getting angry. One of them was Jessica Rabbit. Goof: When Monica yells for their drinks at the drag show, the extra behind her in the blue is clearly laughing at that line.
