Look into "open barrel" crimp connectors, they're a more secure and slimmer alternative to the bulky insulated ones. They just need decent heat shrink over them and they're a very reliable connection. You can get spade terminals, ring terminals, butt connectors and more'

Yes re keeping elements! I have a reel to reel tape recorder I bought from a radio station I worked at for a long time. It had little service notes on it as well as China marker and other signs of use from my old colleagues. So when I had a repairman fix it, I made sure he did not clean it all off. Now, when I use it, I remember my old friends.

Wait, you mean CRC Food is not a substitute for butter?!?! Also an alternative for the crimped connectors, at my previous job, custom busses, we used these heatshrink tubes that had a low melting point solder ring in them, so you when you heated the tube to shrink it the solder also melted and made the connection, I would add a second heatshrink tube over it though, since 120V.
