Hand Tool Rescue - Screwdriver Heat Treatment

Heat treating process for 1144 steel screwdrivers: 1. Heat tip of screwdriver until it is glowing red hot. 2. Dunk red hot tip in any type of oil. 3. Check if sufficient hardness has been reached with file. 3. Repeat for other end of screwdriver if wanted. If you choose to temper the screwdriver after hardening (not recommended), you can follow the tempering graph here: https://imgur.com/CM0wkqu

Are you sure that hardening the back end is a good idea? Hammers themselves are hardened, hitting two hardened surfaces together can crack one of them and send shrapnel flying.

1144 only hardens to 52 Rc so that risk is reduced, but that's why it's an optional choice to do the end.

"And not too hard at all...." I see what you did there.

Will the kit be available at midnight tonight? On the regular website? Or here on Patreon?

I finished mine. Now the eternal quest for a big screw, I guess? Actually, I modified the tip so it would fit a big screw in my life. Now I am waiting for that screw to need to be turned.

Can you put a picture in the Community Tab here? I posted mine there, would love to see what you did with it.
